    Great lesson Maestro. The Teles tone is on point.
    I made a living back in the day playing these same very simple and sparse rythm licks. Fragments are easy and if you got a funky groove, often times...less is more...

      Mike Price I'm honored to get a thumbs up from you Sir. Some of the greasiest, funkiest, classic rythm licksters...ie...Roger Troutman, Bruno Speight, Tony Maiden, Prince, Catfish Collins etc built whole songs on no more than 2 and 3 note chord ideas. No full grips needed and a funky bass player has all of the root notes locked down anyway. Keep chunking out those snappy 16ths with your right hand and let the left do all the talking...lol

      I agree. The better I get in playing, the less I play. I love play percussive notes on the guitar and leave space between the licks.

    Great video! The voice leading stuff at 2:50 is really cool. Shows how knowing your fundamentals is essential even when playing music that some people think is "just one chord". I actually ironically posted a video today about this type of voice leading concept.

    Great stuff! But then again you always got great stuff. Found some new gems in this one, although a bunch of that stuff I find myself doing too. I wonder who some of your funk influences are, maybe we’ve heard some of the same stuff? One other embellishment thing I like to do I stole from the bass part on Ledisi Go where I send thee, is a whole step hammer ons while descending . I usually don’t do more then two or three for fills. Anyways cool stuff

    Do you use any of the UAD amp plugins? If you do, I’d love to see a video on those and your general thoughts on amp plugins. I ask because I recently got a UAD Arrow and I’m feeling like I get better tone with it than my mic’ed tube amp.

    I would love to go to a jam session sometime like you mentioned in the beginning. I live in Nashville and none of my friends are musicians and I have kids/job/wife. I’m dying to play tunes with other people (tired of playing alone) but I also am just looking to have fun, not commitment (yet). I have been playing a long time and just want to jam with some other good musicians. Any recommendations on networking for a guy like me?

    • @RJRonquillo
      @RJRonquillo  7 лет назад

      Hi Mike! There are plenty of weekly blues jam sessions in town. Mondays at Bourbon Street Blues, Papa Turney's BBQ usually has a weekly on Wed or Sat., Soulshine Pizza has a jam on Sundays.

    Say R.J. I GOT A QUESTION! check it - i just got hired as guitar for an R&B thing and I need to get that crisp strat sound for comping. A lot like what you hear on the old Motown records. I'm pretty sure its direct to the board stuff. what would you use to approximate that with your amplified rig?
