Thanks for the balanced clip! My GF & I went to LA for the first time in Sept 2022 & then just this year in Sept 2024. First time in 2022, was for a concert at The Forum. Both times we stayed in Marina Del Rey. In 2022, my GF saw the ocean for the first time in her life on the beach located where Washington Ave ends. That area was nice, but as we got into the Ventura area, it was ROUGH. Tents and very aggressive panhandlers / idiots trying to sell stuff like CD’s. Anyways while we planned to go to the Santa Monica Pier it just got too sketchy. Here in 2024, we noticed the same thing you did when you arrived at the beach area where it was clean & the tents / panhandlers were all gone. Overall, everywhere we went there was much less of a homeless/tent/RV presence than we saw in 2022 and we went a ton of places from Long Beach to Northridge to Pasadena to inner city LA itself. Like you said NO place is perfect, but overall as a tourist it was a better experience in 2024 than 2022.
Mayor Bass took over and started an attempt to clean up a lot of spots. As long as they give the police and sheriff’s dept ability to crack down on encampments it’ll get better. Home owners nearby were fed up too. Newsome and his covid pals completely destroyed small businesses in Ca tho.
I was there 1 year ago today looking for Christmas gifts. It was dirty and there was homeless around every corner. They must be cleaning for the Olympics. I hope they can keep it that way.
@peterwelby No, I'm an informed native Angeleno who cares about his city and has seen the ups and downs of the city of angels over the last 50 years. Of course, the programs are working. This video proves it. If you videoed these same areas 2 years ago, it would be bad with a significant number of homeless people for one. And there would be a lot fewer people shopping and enjoying the beach overall. Several of these programs were only implemented over the last year. For example, the LA Metro TAP to exit program was only started at the Santa Monica E line end of line station a couple of months ago after an initial pilot launch at the B subway line EOL station. It was very successful in catching fare evaders and mitigating problematic people since the vast majority of those troubled people don't pay to use the LA Metro. Santa Monica has been more proactive in removing the homeless from the beach and offering services. They've been legally able to do that now because of the recent SCOTUS ruling about involuntarily removing homeless people from public places. Other cities are doing the same thing, including San Francisco.

The homeless problem started in 1984, it's a 40 year problem, no problem before that. The chain stores forced out the local mom and pop shops on the mall, the rents should go down now with al the vacancies. Might start with some short term leases during the Olympics maybe?

Dude! I’m so sorry to point this out but you basically just completely contradicted yourself. You basically just supported the fact that nobody wants to start a business there because they will be robbed. You are supporting the fact that we have no laws to protect business owners from crime. That is why all of LA and everything else has gone straight down the tubes. You basically just explain why a Santa Monica is crap and why nobody wants to go there anymore! I’m so sorry and I do appreciate your hopefulness and your positive attitude. But dude, you just proved a point.

Facts.
I used to work out there when it was nice.
I lived in SM in 2008. It was a cute fun exciting beach town. How did this happen? 😢
It’s a long story 😮💨
Thanks for your report, I was born is SM. The 60s and 70s were probably the best. Pacific Ocean Park closed in '67, early 60s were classic. The homeless problem started in 1984, it's a 40 year problem, no problem before that. The chain stores forced out the local mom and pop shops on the mall, the rents should go down now with al the vacancies. Might start with some short term leases during the Olympics maybe?
No more of a 2010 and up problem there used to be hardly any homeless in California very few now it’s very normalized.
I like your videos it's sad to see cali become like it has thank for showing us it's been 20 yrs since I've been out there but I thought it was beautiful back then when I visited from Pennsylvania .
Santa Monica definitely shows me signs of hope for the rest of Los Angeles. Let’s hope it gets better before it gets worse! Thank you for watching DJ!
My Best friend 2 rooms 2 baths with a balcony huge … 1200 hundred a month rent..Rent control live there since 1996…
Blame Amazon. This is happening everywhere.

Talk about the new businesses that have opened on the Third St. Promenade, and Barnes and Nobel actually re-opened.

Give it 25yrs to 30yrs.. it will get better
still better than where we are from
As a long beachian we used to go to Santa monica because our beach was too ghetto and now it is the other way around I rather go to LB because santa monica is gross now. Even redondo beach is ghetto now which was not at all the case around 2014. C19 messed up businesses in long beach too pine Ave is a ghost town.
I’d love to do a video in Long Beach. I haven’t been in a few years!
Please define what you mean by “ghetto” (sounds racist to me.)
Im glad I saw Santa Monica before the Covid wave. I guess I got to see it as it should be. Im not looking forward to going back if it's lost its magic.
Their getting their act together cuz of TRUMP 😂🎉😊
Brother, I wish I could leave Utah soon and move to Los Ángeles. Yes, I know what's going on there and I'm not a fan of their politics/policies but is like home to me.
Un abrazo, hermano
If it feels like home don’t let anything stop you hermano! Un abrazo desde Los Ángeles!
Bring some serious $$$$$
Who'd you vote for?
Everybody’s at home, it Thanksgiving!
Santa Monica is SAD smh Man it stank too

Have you ever thought of leaving California ?? It's surely worth the thought, I think !!
Newsom needs the boot!!!
I see the top of trees
No the governor’s who trashed it
They accept this..And they are tge ones that can change it.
Great video presentation thank you hopefully the new administration coming is a change for the better regarding the retail shops
Thank you very much for the feedback Tony! Thanks for watching!
Who, Trump? 😂😂😂. He's a clown saying he's going to implement tariffs. That will only result in a trade war and prices going up.
@@mrxman581 not if America goes on a silver standard or Gold. Make executive order 11110 great again
@@mrxman581 executive order 11110 was the real reason JFK got his head blown off
@@mrxman581oh shut up
Trump Won People are feeling better and safer ..
It feels like it!
That's ridiculous. If people feel better right now, it is because the economy has been improving for two years now. Inflation has gone from 9% to 2.6% over that time.
Man please it's about to get a lot worse in 2024 A criminal is about to be a dictator fafo
Yea I'm sure everything has gotten way better now. What a ridiculous statement you made.
Let's see how long, starting January orange mans tariff crap will empty your wallet quicker than ever, enjoy 😂
Nice!
Something must have happened these last few months 😊
