The average person in America who doesn't watch or even follow the NBA can probably only name LeBron and Curry, of all current players. It's the same with any sport: the best current player isn't necessarily the highest-profile name among the general population.

I'm a Nuggets fan, so I'm biased. But I've been watching and playing BB for a long time. I already believe Jokic is the greatest. Add humility, unselfishness, and lack of the usual star hubris. And you get a well-rounded player that is impossible to find fault with. My son changes the courts and venues at the Nuggets arena; he regularly sees and speaks with the players. He tells me that Jokic is what you see and what you get. He's the same guy; no theater or drama surrounds him. He's honest, he wants to make teammates better, he wants to make fans happy, he loves children and they are the most important fans to him. His teammates, coaches, and anyone who spends any time around him says the same: he's the real deal. These are stats that are unmeasurable. We are watching greatness in history happening.
Thats precisely why the NBA would be wise to promote the heck out of Joker,,,,this is exactly what the younger generations need to be instilled with. (all the things you mentioned)
These days drama is essential for someone's popularity, but Jokic isn't that. That's why he's actually making some of us wanna watch more NBA. And they should promote him more, as an actual good role model and a great selfless player. Surely, there's a lot of people who actually enjoy good basketball from a modest guy who's a fricking beast.
Its so funny that a dude without any social media accounts and presence, who doesn't like to talk in interviews just shows up to work every and shows whos the best player in the world. I love the Joker
I also have a bias towards the OG players, and tend to be more critical of modern players like Jokic and Lebron, but MAAAAAN is Jokic is so insanely gifted. Hes a pleasure to watch, even if i wish the team around him was a little better. Leading the playoffs in all stats and advanced metrics while winning the championship in one of the most dominant runs ever is ridiculous.
@@omgitsMimi06 He could have more rings if he tried to defend more but nobody is afraid of him... I don't blame him, the [NBA] game is just focused on offense right now .
@MOHAMEDMOHAMED-bx3ji he is not the best defender, but he have 1.7 steals and 1 block per game, plus a lot of deflections. He doesn't go to block every shot because he avoids injuries and personal fouls. He is more worthy as consistent average defender than always hurt good defender.
He is one of the most impactful defenders in the league.. Jokic is off every chart for the last 5 seasons this is the modern Michael Jordan in his own unique way. Very few in the world appreciate it. His time is going to come up and pass. Due to front office ineptitude and marketing bias. Most the world will miss out on one of the most talented athletes to ever live😢. It's like never watching Muhammad Ali, Simone Biles, Wayne Gretzky, Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, Tom Brady, Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic. It's really that egregious.
Nikola Jokic is in my opinion the *best* basketball player of all time, in terms of playing winning ball, the fact that embiid stole an mvp from him is highway robbery to me and the only reason he doesn’t have more rings is the incompetency of the nuggets
I was thinking about this the other day when a friend and I were talking about our all-time top-10. Jokic is basically on the Magic and Bird tier. All three were insanely balanced offensive players whose playing style both elevated their team's ceilings and floors. They made the other guys around them better, but also routinely put their teams over the top in crunch time. All three were meh defenders overall, but had aspects to their defensive game that were positives (Magic's post defense, Bird's interceptions and physicality, Jokic's positioning and rebounding). Each won 3 MVPs. The difference is that Magic and Bird played with multiple other HOF level players, which made their teams dominant championship contenders, while Jokic is both playing with worse players AND one of the most parity-forward eras in recent memory. Jokic probably won't have the titles to match Magic or Bird, but he'll have a good chance at eclipsing their MVP total, which in my opinion brings him closer to them due to Jokic's team context and era. I had Jokic right at that cut-off from my top-10, but if he wins another MVP and a title, he'll have to jump close to the top-5 alongside Magic and Bird, in my opinion.
I call it the "Bill, Bird and Hakeem tier", but you are not wrong. He's up there, with the best team players ever in a team sport, lifting entire teams more than any one player should be able to. I never saw Magic lift a team as much on his own as the others had to, because he generally played on quality teams. Similarly, Duncan has half a case but for more support from the front office.
Bird came into the league and took a team of no hopers with 21 win to 62 wins , no mchale, parish , ange etc etc !... Dennis Johnson said " bird could do it all by himself " but he liked to get his team involved...😅
When the great Aaron Gordon was asked where he learned his selfless style of playing, his face lit up with a soft smile and a twinkle in his eyes as he said Nikola Jokic 🥰🏀‼️
Since you're doing current players too (as in players still in their primes), I'd love to see a video on Giannis too. Maybe one on the 2021 finals or even speculating about where he'll be all time at the end of his career. Either way, love the video as always
MPV - 5 times in a row, one stolen in 2022/23 from Perks and other haters, but this is not most important! He makes everybody in his team better. Look at the Westbrook, he is the best proof. He never was my favorite player; he annoyed me when he played in Oklahoma. He was sitting mostly on the bench in LA, but now in the Nuggets, besides Jokic, he is playing so well and is so valuable. That is something that extremely rare players can do: be the best almost in all categories and make your teammate so much better. That is insane! It is so great to watch him!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
He's the only other player besides Jordan I'm willing to say, yes the hype is real. If he doesn't finish his career with at least 3 championships, it'll be an absolute crime.
@@conduitofthegospeldarrellb9154 Jokic is the best I've seen since MJ. Granted I didnt watch bball before 1993 so I cant speak to the greats that came before.
100% on point that Jokic and other players today are super difficult to contextualize because of the increased pace, three point shooting, spacing, and even subtle rule changes like the gather step or carrying. From like 1980 to 2010ish the league had pretty similar pace average pace, playstyle, and a ruleset that was close enough that numbers across eras weren’t absurdly different. Over the next 10 years three point shooting skyrocketed, playstyle drastically changed with tons of heliocentric ball (LeBron, harden, Westbrook, Luka) and tons of volume three point shooting (steph, dame, Young). The change is still happening today, but at least has started to slow down some (my opinion). The you’ve got Jokic, who is anomaly as a big man passer on top of all the league wide trends, which starts to screw up some of the advanced stats Clayton mentions on the defensive side of the ball. Historically, better passing big men strongly correlated with being better defenders; think of KG or Hakeem having better ball skills with fluid athleticism that allowed them to be functional passers compared to other bigs of their eras. Jokic completely breaks DBPM and his overall BPM by being such a good passer that he’s a statistical outlier against the trend. He doesn’t follow the correlation between the two, and while it might seem obvious that a big isn’t necessarily a good defender if they can pass, historically they are strongly correlated, and strongly influence the numbers. It kinda breaks his DBPM, he’s lead the league in the stat multiple times despite obviously having struggles on that end sometimes. It doesn’t mean he’s a bad defender, but it takes away some ability to determine his effectiveness on that end with any sort of confidence- which makes it even more difficult to figure out how he stacks up against other historic greats. So when you’ve got potentially the best offensive player of all time playing the most crucial defensive position while having little to no reliable defensive numbers to help contextualize it your left with tons of uncertainty no matter how much you watch him. It’s no wonder everybody is having trouble properly putting him amongst the other all time greats.
I will forever pat myself on the back that I didn't need to wait until this year to say Jokic is a top 10 player of all time, I knew after he won his first MVP he would be this good
I think Jokic is gonna be one of those basketball player's favourite basketball player names. He hasn't been a big branding guy like Steph, Jordan, Kobe, Bron and so many others. He just plays extremely well and isn't a "basketball personality" or "basketball celebrity".
Jokic is the only player who will actually have more championships if he has stars around him. The fact that he has achieved so much with the teammates he has says so much about his skill.
I'm greedy of Jokic content, and this is poetic, absolutely one of the greats, up there with the early one of thinking basketball and Jxmy "highest peak" one...
I had a dream where nikola won this year's mvp and says im his speech that he'll be retiring if the org doesn't make a move this post season. Not a nikola behavior, but i want him to actually scare the org to make good moves
To expand upon it when you said you've got a tendency to favor the OGs, a lot of people (myself not exempt) can feel like it's almost disrespectful to "too quickly" elevate certain players to all time discussions. That they have to be around for some specific, unspecified, amount of time before they can get the credit they deserve. I try to appreciate the players before us, but it's a fine line of "over appreciation" and under appreciation. Like, Jokic might be the best offensive big we've ever seen, but do you know how hard of a title that is to give when guys like Shaq (the most dominant big man ever) or Wilt exist? It's tough. To add one more thing to the list of "leading the league", not only is he leading in PPG, RBG, & APG, but he's ALSO leading in 3PT%... by 2%. It's actually nuts
Wow! After this impressive video, I am now seeing your other titles - your channel looks amazing!!! I can’t wait to dig in to more of these! Subscribed! 🔥🔥🔥
Stats are inflated in today's game for many reasons like player longevity, more basketball being played, lack of defence and all other factors - that cannot be argued. However, Wilt the Stilt's name being brought in washes all those asterisks away I think. It now becomes a discussion of today's inflation against the inflation of a time where a guy could average 50 points in a season against part-time ballers. And I'm not disregarding that era, what I'm saying is that, in agreement with this video, we're witnessing history being made by a very special player as one would have also said while watching Wilt in that '62 season.
Sorry, I have seen Giannis choke in the clutch. I have seen him throw a wild pass because he was desperate to not shoot or get fouled, I have seen this. Jokic is the best defensive rebounder in the game and defensive rebounds is a defensive stat. Jokic's passing is 90x better, by the way.
I have him at #15 on my all time list and that's just with his current resume. If he had another chip, he'd jump ahead of 3 or 4 people quickly. Very similar situation as Hakeem's career (which is great company to be in).
Anyone else noticed that Joker while beast-mode on a random Tuesday, turns into a Titan when his engines get properly hot. I bet that if someone ran only his second half stats alongside the stats of his back-to-back games, the numbers would just leave all charts.
No doubt! I think a lot of it has to do with his approach in general - he largely defers and tries to get the whole team cooking, which is key to the Nuggets’ success. But sometimes, he just decides to f-it all, lays his modesty aside, and go full Joker mode and it is glorious to behold!
@@jesstiss222 I don't think that's quite it. The man likes winning. I don't think he's hobbling himself to keep a low profile. I know a few guys that are like him when it comes to sports, though obviously nowhere near his level. What i mean is that it takes them a bit to get in the zone, once they get properly hot. Not just warm.
Dont forget the Joker could go anywhere else and get more chamionships, but i dont think hes like that! Hes the case that if he has 1 its like having 3 in LA or Boston. That Nuggets team just sucks around him
lets go im so early i cant even comment on the substance of the video yet edit: yeah definitely havent seen jokics best game but that wemby matchup last night gave everyone hope for salvation

Thank you for acknowledging this legend in real time. Mile High salute to you, sir! 🫡 ⚒️🃏🐐🙏
He’s falling into the Tim Duncan category. He’ll retire a top 10 all time player if he stays healthy, but the next generation will have forgotten him because the highlight reel doesn’t compare to his peers. Giannis, Wemby, and Luka all have better highlight reels and that’s what sticks around long after the player retires.
I watched Big Honey since he was a rook and I have never seen a player with a higher bball IQ, a grasp of the game and he never takes a play off. Watching him in person is akin to me playing hoops with my nephew when he was 7 and I was 27. It's truly a man amongst boys. Every player in the league should want to play with him because he makes them better....much better.
Jokic is in my top 5 fantasy starting line up bc of the eye test, not necessarily the stats. He's lining up as the 4 with Hakeem at my 5. I sometimes have to remove Bird bc Jokic brings much of the same in a bigger package at a position that can mask the lack of athletic ability, and i can use athleticism at SF, but damn do i love the potential of the off ball movement. Because of Jokic, i don't need a traditional PG like Magic. So i'm thinking Curry off ball demon, Jordan off ball tireless worker for position, and Bird another off ball scorer/spot up shooter with secondary elite IQ/passing. I'm flawed defensively and asking Hakeem and Michael to cover a lot, but Jokic and Bird are elite hand-eye coordination disruptors and often its about effort and i'll never lack effort with them. I have a hard time with the 3 if i don't pick Bird. Peak LeBron, Peak Pip, Peak Kawhi, Peak lean KG, Early 30s more mature and stronger Kobe? It's a tough position to pick for me. Jokic can fit with just about any superstar in theory, though likely least of all with non off ball movement who want and need the ball in their hand like LeBron, Harden, Luka for example. They might turn Jokic into a spot up shooter. It's a damn shame the man still has no all star help. Get the man a star running mate ffs.
I keep thinking damn this season he was great, then he repeated, then he repeated and won the championship, then he repeated and keeps going man o man am i grateful to see this guy just play 💯💯💯💯💯
There are two caveats to Jokic’s legacy: 1) Analytics is a tool is a recent concept. Jokic’s team can tune their structure to accomodate what analytics say you should do. Now other teams will aim to emulate this style. Expect that he is the first of a new archetype, much like Steph Curry was for guards. 2) Stats like PER are not necessarily conducive to winning. As Wilt himself proved, it often holds a team back to have too much dependent on one player.
The teams emphasized Wilt because he was the best option period, the reason why despite that fact they’d lose was because the other team knew to target Wilt, also they might be less accurate, they could score faster due to having more options. When Wilt got to the 76ers it all changed.
@@dravendfr Wilt had three all-star team mates during his years failing again and again against the Celtics. It was a change in his approach, becoming more team focused and cutting bad shots out, and being more defensive to facilitate fast breaks, that made them finally beat the Celtics. But only once because Wilt went back to being stat obsessed and selfish.
There have been three true dynasties in my lifetime, and they have passed the torch to each other quite seamlessly. Duncan's Spurs won their first title after the last of Jordan's Bulls, and Curry's Warriors won their first title after the last of Duncan's Spurs. If 2022 was truly the last of Curry's Warriors, then things have at the very least lined up for Jokic's Nuggets.
How insane would it be if i say Jokic is probably top 10 basketball player every? He doesnt have the defensive accolades which dont really matter the way he plays or multiple championships like others in top 10 have, but the team he has is far from good as those guys had and hes playing in todays nba where winning 4 championships seems like a fairytale with how diverse and volatile the league is
not that insane, I would assume that most people that took their time to actually analyze and sort out their top xx players and watched A LOT of basketball especially old basketball, have Jokic in the top 15 knocking on top 10, top 20 at worst. The problem trully is championships, they do matter when talking about GREAT GREATS.
Just watched him beat the Spurs essentially by himself last night. I've lived through the eras of Olajuwan, Shaq and Duncan. I've never seen a big do what Joker does.
Watching Jokic is the basketball equivalent of listening to Polyphia. The average person will struggle to understand and/or appreciate the beauty of either due to the innate complexity of their approach to their respective crafts. Half of the time people are content to simply downplay both due to this reason, but it's only when we look past the stigma and the negativity that we can then definitively say that we are witnessing greatness.
We have 3 all time players in or entering their primes and barely anyone focuses on them. Especially the 2 that aren’t jokic. Jokic,Giannis, and Luka are all all time greats and don’t get nearly the respect they deserve
Shout out Jokic man I don’t anyone expected him to be this good let alone for this long, and I was high on Jokic I though you could argue Jokic was a top 7 player in the world in 2019 be being better than dame. Maaann he’s just different
Yeah, Jokic has been so good for so long (Probably 2018-19) and during this time he’s been mountains above the #2 spot. Along with LeBron, he’s the only player to drag a team into contention in this style. But imagine on offense you mix Chamberlain, Magic, and LeBron. Then you get Jokic. The only player close to him in offensive output is Steph. Jokic is arguably the greatest scorer and definitely the greatest passer. And he doesn’t care.
I still think Wilt is better because whatever difference there is offensively is massively made up for by Wilt's defensive output. And Wilt's 1967 ring is just as if not more impressive than Jokic's ring. I think he's in the top 15 but he has a while to go before he's top 10. He's around that Jerry West level all time right now, but still has a while to go before he can catch Wilt.
@@d.columbia9603 and yet Wilt's 1967 ring is there. He was a lot more consistent in the later half of the 60's and in the 70's, having multiple deep playoff runs where he played well. People have to stop focusing on the first half of Wilt's career and acting like it's the only thing he ever did. Wilt in 1967-68 averaged like 24/19/6 on 67% shooting if I remember correctly, and won a super dominant ring in that time. Like wilt was a leagues better defender, he blows Jokic out of the water defensively, he was a better rebounder and jokic was a better scorer and passer in the playoffs. But wilt has more career and team accomplishments, including the ones he couldn't have earned because they didn't exist yet, like all his all defensive teams, potential DPOYs and his 1967 finals MVP. Jokic is a great player but he still has some work to do to catch Wilt.
To me he's the closest thing to a modern day Larry Bird and that's more than enough praise. I think he's top10 all time already and can't wait to see what the future holds!
Even Hakeem had Clyde Drexler as an all-star for his 2nd ring. Jokic won his first ring with no all-star. Jordan had Pippen. Lebron had Wade / Kyrie / AD. Magic had Kareem. Bird had Parish / Mchale. Kobe had Shaq/Gasol. Shaq had Kobe/Wade. Duncan had Parker/Manu/Kawhi. Literally everyone in the top 10 list with multiple rings either got rings with other all-stars OR players that are on the NBA top 75 list. Right now what we are witnessing with prime Jokic is a peak that rivals prime MJ, Lebron, Shaq.

Thats precisely why the NBA would be wise to promote the heck out of Joker,,,,this is exactly what the younger generations need to be instilled with. (all the things you mentioned)
Every time I go to a Nuggets game, I question why there isn't already a bronze statue of him outside Ball Arena.
Lebron been in the league since 03 u call that modern?
@@MOHAMEDMOHAMED-bx3jihe has the third best defensive rating this year…
@MOHAMEDMOHAMED-bx3ji he is not the best defender, but he have 1.7 steals and 1 block per game, plus a lot of deflections.

Jokic’s attitude towards team basketball and unselfish but still insanely productive numbers remind me a lot of Bill Russell
Agree that Is category..
Since you're doing current players too (as in players still in their primes), I'd love to see a video on Giannis too. Maybe one on the 2021 finals or even speculating about where he'll be all time at the end of his career. Either way, love the video as always
the last game of the 2021 finals is one of the best finals performances ever
Me too. 3rd only behind jordan and wilt
Yes, it's a shame that Denver isn't a slightly stronger team.
Delusional
@@conduitofthegospeldarrellb9154 Jokic is the best I've seen since MJ. Granted I didnt watch bball before 1993 so I cant speak to the greats that came before.
I see Clayton, I click, I watch, I wait.
This with that profile picture got me dying 🤣🤣🤣
I was just thinking earlier, “when is he going to make a vid about Jokic?” thank you Clayton!
I only have one issue with this video. It isn’t longer
Jokic is the only player who will actually have more championships if he has stars around him. The fact that he has achieved so much with the teammates he has says so much about his skill.
By the end of his career, the discussion will be Jordan, James, Jokic
If Joker has a losing record in the Finals like LeBron, then it will be a discussion to see who is second best
Jokic is putting together an amazing career, and it sounds like there aren’t many players who have been as versatile offensively as he is.
The best thing for Jokic is he plays like a guard. A very skilled guard. I've never seen a big man play exciting basketball.
I knew you would make this video.Watched all your videos a while ago and i knew Jokic is a player that you will love.
11:25 Funny that you say this and then Jokic immediately goes out and 46, 9, 10, 2, and 2 against Wemby and dominates in OT.

I have seen him throw a wild pass because he was
desperate to not shoot or get fouled, I have seen this. Jokic is the best defensive rebounder in the
game and defensive rebounds is a defensive stat. Jokic's passing is 90x better, by the way.
You are never allowed to stop making videos. There better be, at minimum, yearly releases when I'm in a retirement 50 years from now
the difference between Jokic and Westbrook is….Westbrook was trying to get TDs, while Jokic is just playing the game
It makes me so sad at how the nuggets front office and luck have let him down.
I want to see Joker get a quadruple-double. That'll put him in a very exclusive club.
The anti European coverage is so bad that many don't know who Jokic is. Joker for 2025 champ!
I bought my first NBA game tickets just for my family to see Jokic play on the visiting team. So exciting to watch.

Great timing just before Jokic got his back against wembanyama
You’re the best analyst out there Clayton!
That ending was 🔥 !
Joker, by the end of his career, will have 24+ hours of highlights tbh. Primarily passing.
There is no player i'd rather watch.
Clayton doing a Jokić video was not on my bingo card today
Man the Making the Case video you make about him in 2040 is gonna be good
I keep thinking damn this season he was great, then he repeated, then he repeated and won the championship, then he repeated and keeps going man o man am i grateful to see this guy just play 💯💯💯💯💯
There are two caveats to Jokic’s legacy:
1) Analytics is a tool is a recent concept.
He's bang in the middle of his prime, let's see how it turns out.
Nikola really needs his Wade, and he needed him since yesterday.
Rings mean shit in the era of super teams, KD 2 Rings with Warriors meaninglessness, LeBron in Miami, meaninglessness 😅
How insane would it be if i say Jokic is probably top 10 basketball player every? He doesnt have the defensive accolades which dont really matter the way he plays or multiple championships like others in top 10 have, but the team he has is far from good as those guys had and hes playing in todays nba where winning 4 championships seems like a fairytale with how diverse and volatile the league is
I don't think he is in top 10 yet,but no,it's not insane to say that imo
not that insane, I would assume that most people that took their time to actually analyze and sort out their top xx players and watched A LOT of basketball especially old basketball, have Jokic in the top 15 knocking on top 10, top 20 at worst.
The problem trully is championships, they do matter when talking about GREAT GREATS.
Can’t wait for his Making The Case lol
I felt like AI crossed me over when the sponsor hit.
He is in that Magic and Bird mold and he’s a pleasure to watch.
Better late than never for one of the game's finest players.
Great video
Honestly, when it's all said and done, Jokic could be the GOAT.
Jokic really shows that bird definitely could of been a dominant player in this era
Joker and wilt is a valid discussion now. If you disagree you are just hateful.
Except wilts offensive ability suffers significantly in the play offs. When it matters most his skills didn't hold up. Jokic is elite period
Jokic is already better
@@omgitsMimi06agreed
Nobody passes like the Joker. It’s incredible how quick the ball comes out of his hands on the pass. There’s no reaction time by the defense.
To me he's the closest thing to a modern day Larry Bird and that's more than enough praise. I think he's top10 all time already and can't wait to see what the future holds!
Big companies don't know how to sell high IQ basketball, and Jokic is off the charts in that area.
8:32 what a pass 😮
2:02 I just KNEW these guys were doping ecstacy "X"
I want to see another championship, but mostly for Jokic himself. Because that's what interests him: winning. Not stats, winning.
Mom wake up! New Clayton dropped!
In every way possible Nikola Jokic has trimmed the fat of basketball (ironically enough)
Bro knows ball
Great storytelling
Loved your video, love your work and Love Jokic! At this moment I'm preparing to watch him play Wemby again after last night's loss to SA, and looking eager to see what he prepared for tonight's game. BUT... contrary to what you said, I don't think he'll win the MVP this year. The title belongs to SGA for the taking. Only 'cause Denver screwed him over. And, of course, he seems ok with it.
