- Happy Pride! Since we're launching our channel in June, we decided to kick off with a rainbow theme. There truly is a beautifully growing list of queer cinema to fall in love with, and we hope you enjoy our reactions enough to join our shameless little family!
Here's a note from Sam about his first experience with Sense8, and reacting in general...
To me, watching a show for the first time is like going on an adventure. You don’t know where you’ll end up, and you don’t know how much fun the journey will be. You can only enjoy the ride! Watching Sense8 for the first time was exactly like going on a rollercoaster ride for the first time, without actually seeing the coaster. It was a mystery, wild with drama, and so many twists and loops that I didn’t expect. Especially with such a sudden and abrupt end, it absolutely had me saying, “One more time! One more time!” I’m an easily excitable person, and watching Sense8, reacting to it live, has been such an interesting new experience for me. I don’t get to have many firsts anymore, but this felt like an exciting new adventure, and I can't wait to enjoy more.

Apparently the series was cancelled because it was really expensive to make. Episodes were filmed on location in the countries where they took place (in other words, it was filmed in like 7 countries) and when it ended, the average episode budget was higher than episodes of Game of Thrones at the time. Apparently the series wasn’t popular enough to justify that cost, but at least Netflix allowed it to get an extra feature-length episode to wrap up the story. I loved the show and was kinda sad that it was cancelled, but I was happy with the ending

That is a Russian Orthodox Cristian cross which makes perfect sense considering Bogdanov family history. Even his father's name "Anton Bogdanov" points out to the Eastern European ties - Anton is common Slavic name and the surname Bogdanov is Slavic as well (could be translated as "belonging to Bohdan" - which itsef means "given by the God").
So excited to see more people reacting to this show! I love all your commentary and that you actually pause to talk in depth about stuff! Can't wait for more episodes!

This show is amazing, so glad to see this vid in my recommended. And it is definitely a show that is designed to be binged. It's a very slow ramp up, but once it establishes what it wants to establish, it keeps the tension and excitement high. I also love the message of the series so much, it is my main go-to comfort show (tied with Leverage, lol)

I think the cop storyline actually dates this show wayyy more than mentioning Facebook. It’s still one of my fav shows ever and you both seem like really cool people! Love the reactions and discussion that you both have about it.
And that storyline is set in Kenya, where FB is still popular in 2023

Love that you are covering this one...one of my favorites. I'm having an extremely difficult time sticking with it as the volume of the actual show is so low I can barely hear what you are watching and responding to. As a result I have started and stopped this several times.

As a great fan of Sense8 (and also Babylon 5 and The Matrix) I am very happy to see someone take the journey (just like I do with Babylon 5).
Glad you did not forget mentioning Straczynski (JMS), because I really do see his fingerprints in the series.
I have often said that when it comes to Sense8, watch the first 4 episodes before you decide. The idea of discovering the story along with the characters is one thing I love with this series.
(I've been watching this video gradually over a few days between shifts at work, so I'm not done yet.) There is significance to the cross of Wolfgang's dad's grave! It's basically a more detailed version of what the cross would have looked like, and it's used more often in Orthodox Christianity. The small crossbar at the top represents the sign that was placed above Christ's head listing his crime as King of the Jews (in even more detailed versions of that cross the sign says INRI. I don't remember exactly which words that stands for.) The middle crossbar is that standard one where they nailed his wrists. The diagonal one at the bottom is a "footrest," which was designed to make the torture of crucifixion worse in ways that I don't think are appropriate for a RUclips comment on an otherwise very positive, fun channel. Really really enjoying the video when I can get a chance to watch it! Very excited to watch the other ones and experience your journey through Sense8! It's the show that was really the last nail in the coffin for my internalised transphobia. Really important show to me. I absolutely love it.

my favorite part of studying abroad (in Indiana) was that when I got asked about my University/College at home I'd tell them it was founded in 1477, which made a weird but very interesting icebreaker

I'm a Christian and this is one of my favourite series. I do think they go a little hard on the LGBT themes, but hey, that was obviously the point, and you have to respect them for making a decision, but otherwise, the show just looks so amazing and is written so well and the actors deliver stellar performances it's so hard not to love it. I'm still sad that they cancelled it.

Facebook doesn’t necessarily date the show. In a lot of “developing” countries Facebook is synonymous with the internet. WattsApp and Facebook are huge.

I loved The Matrix and Sense8, but that created a problem for me in The Matrix Resurrections. It was hard to see the S8 cast in Resurrections as minor characters. I don't want to say more as it might spoil some stuff. Anyway, y'all did a good job for your first video. It is like you've done this before.

@@theshamelist I had hope for the new Matrix because it had been so many years. And because the first 2 sequels didn't measure up. Sadly, it did feel like The Wachowskis made a reunion of most-to-all of their favorite folk. I imagine they had more fun making the movie than we had watching it. (Think that bit at the end of Sense8.)

@@theshamelist if we're talking recommendations, u should totally add Coherence (2013/14) to ur list, is a gem of an indie scifi movie, that didnt get enough praise, yet is everything u ever want a movie to be. u dont need to react to it, since i guess ud be more interested in puting out more mainstream stuff to rise up the channel, and like i said before, its a movie which level was indirectly proportional to the mainstream attention. but should totally check it out, since u seem to be a quality over quantity kind of person ♥

This series is actually based off of Swedish psychologist Carl Jung's theory about human evolution & how the next step would be having a higher conscience that allows for instant communication without words.
I learned about this decades ago through TOOL's song 46 & 2. And I'm sure the Wachowskis first learned about it through TOOL as well...the 3 of us apparently grew up on the same music & culture.
Their music in almost everything they do comes from my generation. Rage Against the Machine, REM, 4 Non Blondes, Pantera, etc etc. In my rewatch of this series I even noticed that Neets had an L7 "poster/flyer" hanging in her childhood room. So yeah, they clearly grew up on the same music I did....grunge, metal, rock.
OH! These two wonderful Ted Lasso reactor people... Sense8... Now THIS Should Be GOOD!
And yet so, disappointing when mid-way through this first episode Sam says; "Oh I get it!! This is where all of their lives go to complete and utter shi_t because of each other. And then they have to find each other. I'm with it. I understand the show now." Too intuitive, that's a problem, just too intuitive! But... BUT... the Wachowskis still manage to break Sam's brain... the first co-locate. (and with misdirect) as they do -

and the fact the Nomi, a trans woman who is a lesbian was played by a trans woman who is sapphic!!!!!

Quelle dichotomie avec les valeurs de l’extreme droite religieuse qui petit à petit gruge toutes les avancées sociales de ce qui restent des démocraties sur cette planète. La série a surement été annulée suite aux pressions des évangélistes américains. Je suis un homme hétéro de 68 ans qui se désole du recul de l’humanité et de sa fermeture à l’autre.
If you're a fan of the Wachowskis then you're probably going to recognize a LOT of these characters. There's another from Jupiter Ascending. But there's Joey "Pants" who was in the Matrix.
