I absolutely love this ensemble. What a pleasure it is to see, hear and experience Japanese drumming unadorned without all the “glitz” that has crept in to other groups with the “Hollywood” approach. Since a jazz drummer, I believe in the 50’s, first put together the drumming ensemble we have today, it has been a pleasure to see how Japanese drumming has evolved.
years ago i went to an island in okinawa. the way the locals to say thanks to visitors at pier is to perform a drum show like this. of course the scale is smaller. but is so touching. nothing else but goose bumps.
Nothing compares to seeing these guys live!!! Such an amazing experience!! You just feel so energized from these drums...no wonder they were used in wars back in the days
Recordings no matter how good can't do justice to this group. One needs to be at a live performance to fully appreciate the power and precision of what they do. A live performance by Kodó is akin to a religious experience.

I have been extraordinarily lucky and blessed to experience KODO three times now at The University of Connecticut Jorgensen Center, most recently The One Earth Tour, March 2023 (when has our World needed this more?). It was transformational. If you have the opportunity, don't forego it.
At this moment they are here in Switzerland and during the performance pause I was searching if can find them online! Amazing how they play perfectly coordinated and synchronised! Never saw such a performance! It leaves me speechless ❤
Konbanwa gozaimasu cannot hardly wait. I wonder where can I find the old video of Kodō playing taiko outside in the mountain. It was a mix of small and big taiko with singing. Like 4-5 man with one woman. ありがとう ございまうす

一度ステージを見に行きました 迫力満点で 震えるほど感動しました。地元の高碕高校にも和太鼓部があります、文化祭で聞いた時も感動しました

今日、勝浦市芸術文化センターで公演がありました。ずぅーっと鼓童の演奏を身近でと思っていました。
叶いました。
映像とは違い、迫力、技術素晴らしかった。
10ヶ月振りの演奏活動だったそうです。
和太鼓を見事な芸術に進化してくれた、日本の誇りです。
感動の一日でした。

坂東玉三郎がいない鼓童が戻ってきた。いなくなるまで、本当に長かった。待ち望んでいました。族も三宅も屋台囃子も素晴らしい。ようやく公演に行きたくなりました。

KODO makes it hard to watch other taiko groups. The standard of excellence and vitality is just so gosh darn high.

You don't need to fly to Japan they tour the US. I had a chance to see them in New York about six years ago.
