I've seen the Kodo drummers live, and their ab strength is utter insanity. They basically camp out halfway through a sit-up and club the everloving s*** out of a drum for 15 minutes straight. It's basically like riding the head of a rampaging dragon holding on with nothing but your core and trying to beat its brains in with your fists. Legendary.
From when I started working at Blue Man in 1996, I had always heard talk of the Kodo Drummers with reverence. Chris and Todd's talk about their influence on us was not just politeness. I had moved to the New York show a few months before this video was taken, and I'm seeing it for the first time. How wonderful to see this dream for Blue Man come true!
When Kodo began to understand their music I got afraid because their discipline paid off. The fusion between musics and the musicianship paid excellent dividends. Kodo is a league of their own. Their skills are legendary and how they adapt to newer music seems almost natural. This is the greatness of RUclips and the Internet. It brings artists, ideas and events together. Our monument of technology is not about failure anymore. It's about music.
the smiles on the faces while playing was priceless; each in his own element, not playing the music but being part of it. I hope to someday be able to the BMG live, but if that never happens it's okay; it's always been about the music for me. thanks, BMG; your music is always magical.
Human Being I play taiko and have been in the exact position (though obviously playing a different song). It definitely does take a lot of upper-body strength to play and not just collapse on the floor, especially when my taiko group finishes the song and we have to lean as far back as possible without touching the floor for a finishing pose. I won’t say it’s painful, but it’s a definite struggle. Kudos to the one playing that entire time. ^-^
Drumming has been around for hundreds of years and isn't going away anytime soon. One of the most primal forms of music on earth and a great way to communicate with other cultures.
I saw Blue Man Group in person and it was fantastic! It just hits different when you are in person and can feel the percussion. They and the Kodo drum corps must be some VERY fit people because drumming is some serious work. Particularly on the scale they both use.
Drums might be the oldest musical instrument humankind ever devised, and hearing them touches something primal deep within us. And this session, hearing those two distinct styles blend together, is an amazing experience.
I had the tremendous privilege of seeing BMG in NYC about 20yrs ago, a small theater I don't even remember, and I will never forget it. Out of the hundreds of shows I've seen, these guys seriously are above and beyond . I'm at the end of my life now for various reasons, and when asked by someone what should I add to my 'bucket list' I always say, you must see the BlueManGroup! Enrich the life you have, put down the cell phones, deny yourself 5.00 cups of coffee and save money to see these guys! I can't imagine what a show with the Kodo Drummers would be like, total joy.
Close to the same years ago, my then teenage son bought me a ticket for a gift and we went probably to the same dark little theater way back when. They we front row and it was a freaking blast. I have 1 or 2 pics of him with 1 of them from an old cellphone and the program too. If you have never seen them live...GO!
I've seen them both live once. And both times came away amazed. The talent is unreal, the drive and commitment is pure and complete and the energy is insane. I honestly wish this took place somewhere bigger, where the energy could really flow. So packed in, I feel like it was almost too much in that little space. I'd pay a hefty ticket to see this in a real auditorium. The dedication to each's own craft, mixing with the style of the other is something else.
I’ve seen Blue Man Group live which was an experience in itself. Can you imagine seeing both groups together?? They’re both excellent in their own way.
Once everybody got together & started really getting in synch, I could'nt help but imagine seeing Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford & Tony Banks sneaking into the session, and smoothly finding places for themselves within that incredible rythym.
This collaboration was marvelous ! I have not danced so wildly for many years. At 66 I was dancing all over my living room like a girl of 16. It was such a magical beat. My dogs thought I had gone mad. Thank you !
Bravo indeed, as a Drummer my self i really enjoyed this Masterpiece, PBM+300 ruclips.net/video/huMOnF6ma0s/видео.html&start_radio=1&rv=huMOnF6ma0s&t=0
since the adpocolypse and the censorpocolypse...RUclips is doing about as much right as EA these days....sorry RUclips i read that back to myself and it sounded harsh, but my past self felt that way so meh
I don't want it to stop!!! It was so epic and beautiful!!! Both bands, both sounds an absolute kaleidoscope of sounds!! I so hope they do more of this together!! And of course every drummer knows that you don't play a drum you BEAT IT!!
I'd read an article a long time ago in Runner's World on the Kodo Drummers, how they'd run a marathon and then perform. This is one of the best musical collaborations I've ever seen.
Just one more reason why America is the greatest country in the world. We mix and blend and laugh and share the good times. Thank for this post and long live Koto!
ABSOLUTLEY phenomenal. NEVER EVER have i heard such fantastic sounds , hats off to you all....my apologies but i'm just TOTALLY speachless..... i can not put into words how good you all sound separate and togeather. gobsmacked......you can hear each individual sound through out
I am NOT a musician.. but when the set started. Immediately you could HEAR the energy and as it progressed the enegery just kept increasing. .I want a copy of the song so bad.. this was utterly AMAZING..
I'm a guitar player but that was properly awesome to behold, just seeing them slowly gelling together and really getting into it is something you can't fake in a million years. So tight once they got going, I find it's hard enough with just 4 band members :-)
Japanese absolutely love the ventures adventure sold more records in Japan than anywhere else did you notice how it became kind of a ventures tune with the guitars?
Ever since the first time I saw the Blue Man Group I have listened with joy to their artistry. I have felt the same watching and listening to the Kodo Drummers. This has me awestruck and moved to my core. For years I have said that music is the soundtrack of the soul. This, this right here, is the manifestation of my thoughts.
Absolutely spectacular ❤️😍🤩so many drummer's smiling anticipating each other.. rythmn timing.. nailed it.. was wonderful to watch an hear.. super job. 👍🥰❤️
Saw Blue Man Group twice a few years back when they were in Sydney (Australia) and loved them. Absolutely fantastic show. managed to get seats in the front row for one of them and loved it.
Right you are Ukie. BMG hires only the best of the best to perform,as do the Kodo Drummers. So it was exciting to watch each group enjoying each others "style" of percussion. When both groups played together, pure enjoyment for the listener as well as the players. Absolutely stellar. [ btw, took 2 carloads Monday night, drove to Chicago and saw BMG. They're a must see! ]
You could see members of the KODO group really enjoying and getting into this event. My first time watching Blue Man Group. Enjoyed it. Terry from Australia.
These guys produce some epic beats, I just love listening to them but not while driving, as I start collecting speeding tickets too quickly... Thanks guys and keep up the good work!
beautiful thing to see so many collaborate with such passion. This is why we are here. Imagine what we could achieve as a race if this is how we all worked together...
Great music from Blue Man group and the Kodo drummers from Japan. I have shared videos from both of these music groups this past year to my elementary and middle school students in my music classes (K-8) here in the U.S.A. and the students really enjoy listening and viewing the videos.
So much talented guys in that location^^ Hope Blue Man Group is thinking about to working together with Kodo Drummers in their next show^^ Would be real nice.
Simply majestic, a splendid fusion between the incredible of blue men and the traditional Japanese giving life to this wonderful music, congratulations I love it!
Love the Blue Man Group they are one of my favorite Artists, Love how Music can cross that International line and make some of the best music out there.
For me, the best part of this video is watching every musician who's not playing. They all share one common expression. Just savoring the moment, and waiting for their chance to jump in and add to the glorious madness. " I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips, Straining upon the start." as Mr. Shakespeare said.

I SO LOVE this kind of thing, the best kind of cultural interaction, and will do more to bring us together than attempts to force it. I find ALL cultures interesting, and all have something to admire & respect in their roots. My idea of optimum is to have homogeneous countries WITH BORDERS, but plenty of interconnecting, collaboration, sharing our best--all strictly according to the expressed wishes of the citizens in each country. THAT would be diversity in a form we can all love, NOT engineered mass invasions & marauding in other people's nations! Of course, it would require having genuine leaders and a fully informed, educated and engaged citizenry. That's my 'utopia'. Much love to Blue Man and the Kodo Drummers, you guys rock the world!!
I have seen both groups live. blue man group was the most entertaining show I've ever seen. they pull the entire audience in like no one else. kodo goes to your soul and rattles your bones from all the deep base. I would see either one in a heartbeat again.
That was epic. That's a potential gaming soundtrack there, not to mention a great show piece. Can you imagine all this on stage at a Blue Man Concert?!😁👍
I can only imagine what being in that studio as they were all playing together was like. Sound that would resonate deep inside your body. Bloody fantastic!!!!
To be the drummer playing the drum set!!!! If it was me I just wouldn't be able to contain myself. What a dream come true for this young man!!! And, to be able to play the drums like this???? What more could you ask for???
I'm here because of the Disney Concert Hall series catalog for 2024 showing the Kodo drummers will be playing this season. I searched RUclips for Kodo and this video came up. I've seen the Blue Man Group in person, but not the Kodo drummers yet. This season looks like a very good one for the concert hall.

I saw them twice, early on, when they were performing in a tiny firetrap theatre in Astor Place, NYC. The first time, we had seats in the second row. Love me some Blue Man Group!
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!! to have the world's greatest Japanese KODO DRUMMERS with the BLUE MEN group. What a BRILLIANT!!! combination of the two & BRILLIANTLY!!! work together. If either of these went on tour who would be special guest or support group to the other 😮😕 DIFFICULT!!! conundrum to do BOTH AWESOME!!! performer's in their own right.
Its SO awesome seeing the 2 cultures come together and create something this amazing!! Especially one of the Japanese guys listening to the blue man group really getting into it with a big smile on his face. Way cool!!!!
This jam session is a percussion lover’s dream. And they were all having such a good time playing together. Music truly is the universal language.
The drum is the ultimate metaphor for Unity through Unison. Kodo and the Blue Men literally became One in their drumming.
This!^^^
I've seen the Kodo drummers live, and their ab strength is utter insanity. They basically camp out halfway through a sit-up and club the everloving s*** out of a drum for 15 minutes straight. It's basically like riding the head of a rampaging dragon holding on with nothing but your core and trying to beat its brains in with your fists. Legendary.
What a manly performance review. They should include this inside their adverts for future shows in masculine countries.
That is one hell of a metaphor

I saw them in Cleveland, OH. Quite probably the best show I have ever attended.
What was it like to be a blue man,? They're really the only thing I want to see in Vegas.
THAT, my friends, is a DRUM CIRCLE!!!! This is one of those videos I could watch again and again!
Meee Tooo! I started doing some sort of primally involved movement as they jammed. You become immersed in it; PART of it!
I just love Japanese Taiko and Kodo and adding in the Blue Man group brings in a playful energetic feel. Percussionists are just the best.
When Kodo began to understand their music I got afraid because their discipline paid off. The fusion between musics and the musicianship paid excellent dividends. Kodo is a league of their own. Their skills are legendary and how they adapt to newer music seems almost natural.

Not seeing any drumming on this video
The smile comes automatically when you are playing and you cannot stop it because you are possessed by the "Spirit of the Drum!"😏🪘
The guy sitting down with the big drum must have a metallic spine.
Working those abs
I came here to say the same thing. Abs of steel.
I thought the same thing about man on floor, big drum, OUCH!
Human Being I play taiko and have been in the exact position (though obviously playing a different song). So basic, yet so powerful
what if they bring a guitar on the battle field. hahahahha
The Rogue Wolf ...ALWAYS has been my thought too
I wonder if that's why drum lines and cadences are so good are pumping up a football team and the crowd
All of us do have a drum beating in our chests at all times.
that one blue man thay always just always gets the vibe in his soul on the random and cant stop bobbing his head is my favorite thing ever.

Hi Janet how are you. Greetings from California, great video. Hope you’re safe from covid. Have a great week and stay safe 😃😘 Scott
Once everybody got together & started really getting in synch, I could'nt help but imagine seeing Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford & Tony Banks sneaking into the session, and smoothly finding places for themselves within that incredible rythym.
What about Steve Hackett…
I've always been so impressed with how quickly drummers can pick up licks just from watching another drummer play one. This was a sweet collab!
This collaboration was marvelous ! I have not danced so wildly for many years. At 66 I was dancing all over my living room like a girl of 16. It was such a magical beat. My dogs thought I had gone mad. Thank you !
i'm 63 and my newfoundland lab was dancing with me... the cat on the other hand is not really crazy about dancing...
You go, Wild child.. ;)
Forgot to take your medication or took to much
Be carefull you'll wear out your pace maker! 65 here and i was worn out just from watching.

To be sitting in that studio while they were playing would have been THE experience of a lifetime. Best drum performance EVER.

I agree. Was nice for a change
Love Kodo, love Blue Man. What an awsome collaboration.
The blue man group has its own unique soul already, but damn if the Kodo drummers don’t give it a new, gnarly heartbeat.
I don't want it to stop!!! It was so epic and beautiful!!! Both bands, both sounds an absolute kaleidoscope of sounds!! I so hope they do more of this together!! And of course every drummer knows that you don't play a drum you BEAT IT!!
I dunno, instead of having wars, might we be better off having giant jam sessions to release some of that tension
Glen Chapman i do agree. doing this kind of session leads to good and/or great music to follow for the public to enjoy

Kodo and Blue Man Group. My two favorite percussive groups. Together.

So cool when the Kodo musicians just jumped in and started playing with the BMG! ❤
"They picked it up in 30 seconds".
