Even if it does go more mainstream there is no guarantee that will balance audience demographics. Gaming is a perfect example. To this day most gaming, particularly "hardcore" gaming is done by men by a pretty large margin. While women mostly play casual games.
I am a woman who have been thinking about trying to do vtubing using a voice changer and a male avatar/persona, cuz my favorite OC is male... But I have been hearing so many negativity towards male vtubers that i feel like it wouldn't be a fun experience at all.

I'm a soon to be male vtuber and even though I haven't started, I've already received hate for it. Earlier this year, some "unicorns" found out that this is working I'm working on, and this is what I'm striving to do. For some reason, they decided to harass me basically saying I'll never be successful because I'm a low voiced male, and not a cute anime female. As ridiculous as it sounds, I sadly believe them. Especially now when I'm on the brink of getting started, my own self doubt is killing me, and i also see how much love and praise the females get, so now those hate comments are really starting to get to me again. What if what they said was true? What if I'll never take off because of my gender? What if all of my hard work will be in vain? And since I have a friend that's a female vtuber, and plan on collabing with more in the future, what if I'll receive more hate and harassment all because I interacted with them? At this point I'm seriously scared, confused, and doubtful about myself, because of my experience with wanting to become a male vtuber.
Don't let them discourage you. There are plenty of male VTubers who have seen moderate to very high success. It's worth it to give it your best try, and see what happens even if others doubt you.

Most of the time it's just some 1.5k followers female vtuber that will get a mere hundred likes on some rant tweet. Really not that big of a deal. Do I agree with their discourse ? I've watched a few male Vtubers that are genuinely funny and talented, but I didn't feel like their Vtuber avatar added to the experience. It felt more like they were just streaming with an avatar. When I watch any member of Holomyth, I feel like I'm seeing a fully fleshed out, larger than life anime character that's overflowing with charm and personality.
I kinda get the same feeling. As someone seems to be heading the Vtuber route while I work to establish myself as a content creator I would love to support male Vtubers. I like a few of them but I feel like something is missing from them that I see in many female vtubers. Every Male Vtuber seems to fall into 2 categories: appealing to women, or be "one of the bros". Frankly I see a lot of untapped potential if Male Vtubers try to appeal to a crowd that is huge in anime that Vtubers haven't really touched much......the Shonen crowd. Male Vtuber here, have to say that I did not always know it was going to be this difficult (I started in 2019 before I knew of Gura, Calliope and the rest, so... I was kind of an anomaly and the toxicity against male Vtuber wasn't still a thing haha), I thought it was going to be like starting any other channel, but never to have toxicity coming my way because I am a man (I'm currently having fun luckily, I have a small community). But then a creep appeared (don't remember exactly when): it only happened once but it was enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth, someone came to my chat and said "I'm going to unmask this predator, mark my words", and I, a victim of SA was like "F*cking excuse me?!" It was such a mood killer for that particular stream... And, of course, there is the part of getting a collab with anyone is extra difficult (well, I'm not a traditional anime character so it's EXTRA difficult), nobody answers your messages, not even with a "No thank you, my schedule is full" or "I rather not for personal reasons", I feel like this shouldn't be said but: "guys, I'm an adult, I can take a no and keep moving on, but don't give me the silent treatment because I will always think you never got the message or something like that" (of course I do not insist, just one mail and that's it, I'm not a creep). But gotta say that the two collabs I have done so far been amazing, I hope there are more in the future because they are a lot of fun :3 Also, is incredible how people have the fear that their female Vtubers fall for a male Vtuber, if you think about it that is what the fans are actually afraid of, they are afraid to lose their chance (because they believe they do have a chance to get noticed, meet on discord and start a relationship, like the freak in the latest helluva boss episode). Ik this was from a while ago. I watch all kinds of vtubers regardless of sex/gender. I've never believed in the "all male vtubers are shit" arguments ever. I'm a cis het female. I've had a slew of bad experiences with men in general online and offline. You just can't blame an entire group for the actions of a few other individuals. There're women out there who have been caught and are known to sexually harrass other people PLUS men. I also understand the other side saying how "only men cross my boundaries in dms" etc. it really sucks and its so uncomfortable. I wish the sexual harassment a lot of younger vtuber girls get didn't happen. Cause I've been on the receiving end. Male vtubers are still real living people who are all their own individuals though. More than an actual problem, imho people give way too much attention to these things. Most of the time it's just some 1.5k followers female vtuber that will get a mere hundred likes on some rant tweet. Really not that big of a deal.

I've watched a few male Vtubers that are genuinely funny and talented, but I didn't feel like their Vtuber avatar added to the experience. It felt more like they were just streaming with an avatar. When I watch any member of Holomyth, I feel like I'm seeing a fully fleshed out, larger than life anime character that's overflowing with charm and personality.

I kinda get the same feeling. As someone seems to be heading the Vtuber route while I work to establish myself as a content creator I would love to support male Vtubers. I like a few of them but I feel like something is missing from them that I see in many female vtubers.
Every Male Vtuber seems to fall into 2 categories: appealing to women, or be "one of the bros". Frankly I see a lot of untapped potential if Male Vtubers try to appeal to a crowd that is huge in anime that Vtubers haven't really touched much......the Shonen crowd.
Where's are our Vtuber equvilents to Luffy, Bakugou, or Killua? Female Vtubers got the Shojo and cute anime girl thing down to a tea, let's get some battle crazy, loud mouthed, bottomless pits that are Shonen main characters
@@ReiseLukas not really. and by the shonen, i assume you mean the role playing aspect? yeah some females do it and worked well but we actually already have some of the male ones that does roleplaying. doesnt really last long because it comes out as cringe. Being a male vtuber has that same difficulty for a female streamer. it's always gonna boiled down to two categories.
If youre trying to be a vtuber, try it out and see how that turned out.

Male Vtuber here, have to say that I did not always know it was going to be this difficult (I started in 2019 before I knew of Gura, Calliope and the rest, so... I was kind of an anomaly and the toxicity against male Vtuber wasn't still a thing haha), I thought it was going to be like starting any other channel, but never to have toxicity coming my way because I am a man (I'm currently having fun luckily, I have a small community). But then a creep appeared (don't remember exactly when): it only happened once but it was enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth, someone came to my chat and said "I'm going to unmask this predator, mark my words", and I, a victim of SA was like "F*cking excuse me?!" It was such a mood killer for that particular stream...
And, of course, there is the part of getting a collab with anyone is extra difficult (well, I'm not a traditional anime character so it's EXTRA difficult), nobody answers your messages, not even with a "No thank you, my schedule is full" or "I rather not for personal reasons", I feel like this shouldn't be said but: "guys, I'm an adult, I can take a no and keep moving on, but don't give me the silent treatment because I will always think you never got the message or something like that" (of course I do not insist, just one mail and that's it, I'm not a creep). But gotta say that the two collabs I have done so far been amazing, I hope there are more in the future because they are a lot of fun :3
Also, is incredible how people have the fear that their female Vtubers fall for a male Vtuber, if you think about it that is what the fans are actually afraid of, they are afraid to lose their chance (because they believe they do have a chance to get noticed, meet on discord and start a relationship, like the freak in the latest helluva boss episode). Personally? I think male vtubers are extremely cool, I think female vtubers are also extremely cool.
They are all just people doing what they enjoy as they create content and create (hopefully) fun and loving communities
being cautious of men is fine. what is NOT fine is trying to deplatform them for the actions of their colleagues. jokes about hating men are fine, i as a man make them all the time, they literally do nothing to me, but the problem arises when those jokes turn into allegations that can ruin someone's career. over what?? just disliking someone?? it's ridiculous how normalized this is in the vtuber community. not only does it make it harder for real victims to get justice and be taken seriously, but for the guys who just want to make a living and have fun online, things turn catastrophic real quick. sad that it's still so rampant.
Generalizing happens because text is a terrible medium for nuance and debate. I don't watch that many male vtubers because they are not the content I want to watch, most of the time. It's always about curating your audience, different content means different audience. You can't force people to watch content they're not interested in, no matter how hard it's marketed.
If someone is producing good content, and growing slowly, it's because good content is hard to find in an ocean of creatively bankrupt content produced only for money.

I love this video you have some very fair points i know are true. I am a Male and i wante to be a vtuber its hard to get the funds to gether but their is a hate out there about men that is sick. I have history of members of my family who have been RP and so on and i have a sister so i can't understand any male that can hurt a woman like that. I could never be that way but am scare of using a female modle cause of this hatred even though i would like to be me inner self of sorts as a vtuber.

I watch all kinds of vtubers regardless of sex/gender. I've never believed in the "all male vtubers are shit" arguments ever.
I'm a cis het female. I've had a slew of bad experiences with men in general online and offline. You just can't blame an entire group for the actions of a few other individuals. There're women out there who have been caught and are known to sexually harrass other people PLUS men.
I also understand the other side saying how "only men cross my boundaries in dms" etc. it really sucks and its so uncomfortable. I wish the sexual harassment a lot of younger vtuber girls get didn't happen. Cause I've been on the receiving end. Male vtubers are still real living people who are all their own individuals though. I believe there's enough gender gatekeeping in the world, and I'd rather vtubing doesn't start to go down that route.
