I recently cut about 800 square ft of walls with a corona 3 inch straight wall brush in a reno situation. In theory the bigger wall brush holds more paint, so you can move quicker, but you also need a quality bristle to get into the inside corner.
Mike I used to use angle sash if I’m being honest. I was never told any other way. I watched the video where you painted that bathroom and talked about using wall brush. I picked up a Corona Denver and got used to how the tool is supposed to work. I’ll never go back to angle for wall cut ins. With a nice paint my cuts are covering in one coat saves me time and energy thanks a lot.
that corona Will treat you right that is the Chinex white bristle too I assume. . That is why I do these videos. teaching you guys how to be faster....
Thank you! Wonderul explanation. I get it. Am actually using my brushes for staining and or painting wood furniture. Found I am having s hard time finding a 2” flat bottom white china brush. They are all angled, so glad I found you. Now I know I do not want the angled. So nice how well you explained it in such short time. Exactly what I needed to know. 😁
What do you think about the Wooster FTP 3in.? I can also cut like a pro with a whizz wedge and use them for months before they wear out. Great brush 💪🏻👍
wooster alpha 3" wall brush is my favorite. They hold a lot and leave very few brush marks. They aren't supper firm, so it gives you a lot of ability to shape them and flawless layout strokes.
go to the block flat for walls or try the corona chinex. OMG I noticed a big difference between it and the blue purdy. I used those too for a while. Now I like the chinex. nice and stiff holds and releases more paint per dip.
Mike - I'm dropping a LIKE on your video as I watch through 100% of it. I want to thank you very much for your support and insight when the 4K/1K SNAFU hit the fan on RUclips! You had been the very first person to find and talk with me - and offering me incredible advice to get me where I needed to be - strong and solid - to hit the 4K/1K numbers! I have hit 4K - the 1K part happened fast, but the 4K just happened, and it happened months sooner than I expected it - primarily due to your insight and assistance! THANK YOU very much sir!
Purdy pro extra glide 3 " has been my go to CUT brush for years the blue bristle for interior and exterior you can get a nice 4 to 6 foot cut with one dip been in the game for over 20 years now and that brush seems to be the best for just straight cutting in tight lines interior or exterior like I said
try the proform picaso or the corona chinex bristle. I like the purdy blue but those brushes are better. corona is better for pickup and release of material. proform picaso is better for fine work.
didn't even know what a angled brush was until i saw them on these you tube vids on U.S. painters never used anything smaller than a 4 inch brush for walls 3 inch for woodwork or most woodwork 4 inch on doors can't believe guys are using sash detail brushes on walls and as a main brush for woodwork etc
Wow Mike, I've been really taking an interest in painting this last couple of weeks and to be honest what brains I have are fried thinking about types and makes of brushes. You've just put all that to rest and saved me money, thanks mate you're the man😊👍😉
Did not know that even painting walls and fences require specific types of brushes to be used. Quite similar to makeup brushes where there are different shapes too
Ppg has em but I got a 3 inch sash (Excalibur) it's a great brush worn out now but still works good that's the thing about em but I never saw the oval straight or the block straight or ida got it corana is more expensive than purdy or Wooster but its well worth it a handmade brush Fuller with more bristles/filaments
no sir. I learned from a painter who with less than 20 guys made over 4 million a year in the 70s and 80s. We were never allowed to use a brush that was less than 1 inch wide and 4 inches unless there was some extenuating circumstances.
not normally sometimes after it is wipped out I have just to get one last job out of it but normally it pretty much ruins the brush. I think I have a brush cleaning video on the channel. using 3 buckets of clean water
no not normally it usually ruins the brush. Only when I am trying to save the brush for like one more job. There is a how to clean a brush video on the channel.
Corona makes great brushes. But if you get used to using a straight cut brush more he will be faster they hold and release more paint. Angle cuts are for sash and trim only
I hear you Mike. I tried to get used to cutting in with strait brushes. But I'm so used to angled. I cut in better with angled. Alot of the old school painters who taught me used strait brushes. But couldn't get used to them. Lol. But I'm a pro painter for 25 years now and I have had my own painting company for about 15 years. But you are right👍. Strait brushes def hold more paint...
you can crank with a Picasso Oval 3 inch. Or a 3/4 inch x 3inch Block wall brush with Chinex bristle. Corona. They hold and release the most paint. Those Picassos are great for super smooth finish. Blow out some door jams with a 3/4 inch roller and a Picasso. Fast and perfect.

Is that video still available? where you painted the bathroom. I would like to see it.
Thanks
@@khalidjaii2 yea it is pretty old I had a bad camera angle with the gopro. but It is up there.

I love the purdy 3.5 stiff blue but started using the same size and bristle flat and noticed a big difference.

Great information, didn't know about the wall brush being 20% better...Thanks for sharing...
Do you prefer block or oval brushes (Corona Knight vs Silk) for cutting in?
block 3 inch or larger for walls is the best. chinex bristle holds the most paint per dip corona is the best
Where can get this type of brush the oval?
this one is not an oval but I really like these brushes. good value brush amzn.to/2Z8hAY8
this one is similar Oval but not chinex amzn.to/3jRMFr1 these bristles are almost as good and leave less brush mark great enamel brush.
@@mikethepainter thank you!
Mike please tell me what brush do you use for oil base enamel paints thanks
I like the black hair china bristle for oil. Straight cut for single sash windows and doors. Angle for diamond cut sash windows.
Straight brushes cut way better and hold more paint.
Where did you get that 3 inch oval chinex
I got that on ebay but if your in the west dunn edwards has corona chinex.
Mike, did you go through the union apprenticeship program?
no sir. I learned from a painter who with less than 20 guys made over 4 million a year in the 70s and 80s. We were never allowed to use a brush that was less than 1 inch wide and 4 inches unless there was some extenuating circumstances.
Lying is the new normal now. Smfh.....
hamilton perfection pure bristle oil based paint for woodwork and metal work only.
The Picasso is great.
Do you clean your brush with laquer thinner???
not normally sometimes after it is wipped out I have just to get one last job out of it but normally it pretty much ruins the brush. I think I have a brush cleaning video on the channel. using 3 buckets of clean water
Mike F send me link

What’s so hilarious is that i go into my local paint store SW and 99% of the brushes they have are angle sash garbage its rediculous.
totally get it. I go out to job sites and everyone is using angle sash tools to paint walls. Most people just dont know.

Premier Montauk or Purdy Pro Extra or Picasso all 3inch flat I will absolutely smoke anyone with a garbage angled brush! Facts
