It's much easier than you think. You can convert .map files into their respective 3D model, then it's just a matter of calculating the tris and partitioning them using whatever tree structure you choose. At the moment I'm using Quake maps in Godot to test my collision detection system and I don't have a huge wealth of professional video game development experience. Before anyone asks/assumes, I'm not using the popular Qodot extension either.
Sort of. It cuts a lot of corners when it comes to collision detection. Velocity is not clipped correctly resulting in several incorrect behaviours: - the player will maintain their speed when colliding with corners. - the camera leans into the player's move direction even when they're not moving - step detection will get caught on complex geometry The programming of the player controller of Dusk is offensively unprofessional. Dave can do better.
"They never miss. Eventually, they're going to..." And I've already forgiven them for it. The track record is too good. They could release a Ride to Hell level tragedy and I'd be like "Okay, I'll play Dusk again."
Would you be comfortable releasing full interviews on maybe the second channel or something like that or are you eventually planning to edit them a little and upload these versions?
If I remember correctly dave mentioned that Garry Newman actually helped with the whole "detecting maps" thing. Also YES PLEASE I NEED THOSE INTERVIEWS PLEASEEE
Honestly, this is just another example of why Indie Devs, or at least Indie Devs like New Blood, are currently some of the few GOATs in the gaming industry. They could've easily made Dusk HD a cheap DLC and leave it at that, but the fact they made this free to own so long as you already own Dusk, and added official mod support for Steam Workshop, as well as incorporating a system that lets people import stuff from GoldScource, Quake and others into Unity, and did all this FOR FREE, like top notch dude. It shows that the devs behind the game are truly greatful to their fans for their support after all this time. That they care about the community they have created, and are giving back and giving the community more ways to keep their game alive for years to come. Props to New Blood for doing this, thank you. Looking forward to what fans and modders are gonna cook up with these tools.
This is always how the SDK worked. You put down a quake entity in trenchbroom and would get a dusk enemy instead. Kind of a chore though because nothing is labeled - wished they’d worked in the level creation aspect more
I got Dusk actually last week. Really good game- didn't even realize that the HD and SDK update added compatibility with Half-Life maps, then I saw your previous video about BM:BS with a bit of recognizable Dusk gameplay in the background.
This support was there already, way before the HD update. I remember I also tried to load Cry of Fear maps at one point and they kinda work lol. I then tried to make a map myself using J.A.C.K. editor and it loaded straight away with absolutely no issues. Felt like magic lol.
Dusk's custom maps are wild. Since you can mount just about any old school bsp files in it, maps can be made using stuff like worldcraft, trenchbroom and Valve's Hammer editor.
Dude, wtf... I'm speechless. It'd be one thing for Source and idTech games to load each other's maps, which has been done many times, it's a whole nother thing for a Unity game to load goldsource maps. I'm just like, WTF!!!!
The sdk was a super cool feature, good to see it finally being added to the main branch. Now we need Dusk being ported into Doom. *Oh, wait a minute...*
I was not surprised when I saw this video. There's so many boomer shooters I haven't played yet, I keep confusing them in my head. For some reason I thought Dusk was running on some Quake source port. Anyway, what's that Fallout-like game near the end of the video?
I must be the only one who wasn't that fussed on DUSK. It was fine. It had all the pieces in place, but there was hardly ever a point where it clicked for me. My brain was telling me it was supposed to be fun, but I wasn't really feeling it.
Did you really just casually say you interviewed everyone at New Blood like two years ago and just never released them?? Then act like it was nothing???
How are you launching a game ANY videogame, and your first instinct is to not turn off bloom? The video topic is interesting but the background footage makes me nauseous. If you don't turn off bloom in games you are clinically insane.
Look at my face? I clearly LOVE Quake 1 & the Quad Damage that comes with it! I personally HATED Dusk. It’s a cool idea, but what a boring, not fun, final product! I personally demanded a Steam refund! Dusk totally SUCKS!!! It’s impressive that one guy did all of this, but it’s honestly a terrible game with no reason to recommend it.
Dusk Dude doesen't need to hear all this! He's a highly trained sickle weilder.
I was impressed the moment he said unity game, with the ability to load half life 1 maps.
Codename: Loop be like:

@@user-og6hl6lv7p your collision detection system? What's wrong with Godot's? I've seen a lot of people doing the same thing
Dude, this isn't 2013...
@@user-og6hl6lv7p As someone who's getting into Godot who wants to try using quake maps in engine, what method do you use?
The movement of dusk does kinda marry well with how half life plays in a weird way, this looks really good!

You should check new blood's games, Dusk is amazing, but they have other gems there too
HL map compability was there for a long time
would love to see the new blood interviews, especially the hakita one
They were so busy wondering if they could, they never stopped to ask if they should...
_And thank God for that._
holy shit this is EPIC. and the interviews? oh, please! that's the stuff of dreams!
Well that's my day settled. Absolutely unreal!
Next they're gonna load Unreal engine games. Wait if Dusk was made in Unreal not Unity, that'd be somewhat plasuable.
I love the Doug Walker mod just being there on the front page of the workshop screenshot
Also, the new blood team is really funny on twitter!

KFA = Keys Firearms Ammo, ID being ID software, so NBKFA is New Bloods variant.
Thought it was “Full Ammo”?
It gives you the guns too, not just the ammo. There is an IDFA variant, which just gives you guns and ammo, but not keys.@@MondySpartan
the true gmod 2 has just been released
Awesome to see Dusk is being mentioned.
NewBlood trying not to be based challenge (Impossible)
A game that detect/ read half-life maps & npcs and ' convert ' them into it's own? Never heard something like that in my whole Half-Life !
I don't even know what Dusk is but I'm still excited lol
Stay tuned Tyler M shows us alot
What was the aforementioned isometric rpg?
Yeah very interested
Thanks for letting me know
I have Dusk in steam, so thank you for this incredible news!
Instant instal ;p
Daves the man, been following him since the KBMOD days
You freaking mad man! Release those interviews, edited or not.
Dusk was (idk why I chose it) the first game I chose to play through on my new OLED Deck and omg is it an awesome game
Please edit and upload those interviews of the devs. I would enjoy to see them

Shout out to Zombie for working on the dusk SDK for fucking years
Yeah I was super excited when I found out
Subbed for the interviews ;)
This is a really impressive feat of software engineering, I hope Newblood keeps the momentum going, they're doing great.
Nice
How have I never heard of this? Is beyond me.
Been playing it since 2 years ago amazing game tbh one of my favorites its like a mix of Quake and Hl1 its amazing

Hello passionate gamer, on 5:00 it was me who made that!!!!!! i did the penice!!!!!!
thank you brother 🙏
This is one of the most intuitive game updates I've ever seen

What happened to your Anacrusis 1.0 stream with the devs?
The only thing missing is Quake.

Same question

Why are you not releasing recorded interviews for years?
Half-life but awesome
HL1 in Unity, eh?
