I remember now where I got that motor. It was off of a small drill press that got converted to a turret lug and eyelet press. If I remember any other detail, I will post them here.
I was able to pick up most of one of these recently-- lathe bed, headstock and tailstock-- and I appreciate this video as it is helpful to see how folks set theirs up, so thank you!
I didn't realize they made them tbis long ago. I bought a used one on eBay about 15 years ago. I didn't use it much. I just started using it again recently. I use it mostly to install pool cue tips. But I had to put a 4 jaw chuck with bigger pass though. What I really need is a longer bed so I can add a steady rest.
im in the process of building a similar sized lathe using some spare parts i had laying around. so far i have most completed with the exception of the top cross slide. my lathe size is about a watch makers lathe or taig 2 sized so i checked ebay for a used cross slide or compound slide from an old watchmakers lathe maybe someone was selling and was shocked at what they were asking for the rust covered pieces of junk i saw....most were just under $1000!!!!! im not sure whos buying these at that price but certainly not me!!! i decided to build my own lathe to save money so im now wondering if i could perhaps find either a used or even new taig top slide for sale that i could fit onto my machine. thing is , i would like it to be able to rotate..can you rotate the taig top slide or is it fixed? if fixed do you happen to know if they maybe sell an upgrade fixture that would allow the taig top slide to swivel? it just seems that the taig slide is the ideal sized slide for the machine i built. i noticed they sell a small top slide on the chinese sites intended for the sieg lathes but it seems a little too big to fit my machine so short of building my own slide ( definitely dont have the shop for that) i was hoping to use a taig slide if it rotates or can be made to. thanks
Hi, I sold the Taig in the video a year ago. The top cross slide only goes back and forth. The slots on top would let you mount things that could rotate. I have one of the Chinese mini lathe now. Much larger than the Taig and way easier to customize.
Is the standard motor stronger than that on the sherline lathe? All metal (cast iron, steel) or some soft materials (zamak, aluminum cast)? Saddle, t-slot-table, tailstock? Which inside morse taper sizes does it have at spindle and tailstock? thx! What are the main differences to sherline? Total weight? Thx

I sold that Taig lather and bought one of the small bench top lathes. It is way more versatile.

Is the taig micro lathe capable of cutting hard steel?
It can, but very small cuts.
