Eggs, Bacon, Sausage is better than ANY box of cereal. Period. Cereal is a mass produced product with Multiple listed ingredients. Eggs have no added ingredients. "Breakfast" the most important meal of the day was a marketing scam. How you break your overnight "Fast" is important. Not all doctors are correct with nutrition.
Agree. High carb consumption spikes your blood sugar, which in turn increases the risk of insulin resistance which is probably a major cause of cardiovascular disease, dementia, arthritis, erectile disfunction, polycystic ovary syndrome, cataracts, blindness and other conditions. Fat and protein have little effect on your blood sugar, and they are essential, unlike carbs. I am surprised that the doctors don't know this.
The fact that these cereals are still available shows just how screwed up the food and health systems are around the world. Ask a cereal company executive if they or their family eats this stuff.....

Every morning - Alpen brand muesli with oat milk. As for the term "no added sugar", a baker alerted me to how misleading that wording is. She explained what it REALLY means is stores can label their pies (for example) as such because when preparing them, no sugar is added to the gloop that is scooped out of 5-gallon plastic ( ! ) pails of strawberry, raspberry, whatever mixes that are already sugar-laden. Keep up the good work and enjoy your break; your presentations are simply the best.
The old folks watching might remember the "shocking discovery" announced in the 60's where a scientist declared that the cardboard used in cereal boxes probably has more nutritional value than the contents. But it's quite interesting to note that many of those cereals void of nutritional value remain popular. America has a health and obesity problem for very good reasons, but primarily because many people have not been taught to value health and factual information.

It's important to recognize the government had made progress in terms of educating consumers about nutrition, e.g., laws requiring that ingredients and nutritional value must be provided on the packaging. More could be done, of course, but the other (greater) problem is America has so many people who simply do not value facts and their health, as mentioned in the original comment.

Eating so called healthy cereals -raisin bran, oats, etc resulted in a pre-diabetic diagnosis! Since ditching cereals and processed foods, i reversed this diagnosis. My glucose readings are normal now. Processed foods are the worst! Merry Christmas Docs!
U r absolutely right. Cereals and grains become glucose when ingested. Your pancreas pumps out insulin to address the glucose in your bloodstream and stores that glucose as fat. Not to mention the added sugars involved.
Yes correct. Refined grains are toxic. Trouble is where do you think excess protein goes? It is converted to glucose and stored as fat. We can’t store our amino acids. Most people don’t realize this
My fav cereal is Shredded Wheat, the brown box with the smaller squares. It has the lowest "sugar" per serving. And the highest fiber per serving. I even bring it with me in small bags as a snack to stop me from impulse buying at the vending machine.

I'm 🇨🇦 a senior, single, male, and cooking is definitely not a core competency! Type 2 diabetes with 20units daily insulin & related meds. Diabetes nurse was asked "just give me a brand for anything good". Reply "bran flakes" ... (so to my limited brain, raison bran without the raison sugar spike). Serious flatulence and incontinence ensued. I "think" part bran and part green beans (another attempt at eating healthier, believing green veggies are also important). For Christmas I asked Santa for: - a top 5 list of healthy breakfast options ... at least two cereals or equivalently quick-prep notions. - a special Health Canada sticker for items that are diabetic-healthy! Nothing appeared under my imaginary Christmas tree 😢😛! Taking this fairly seriously ... from near-zero to just a smidge over 1,000,000 steps in past 6 months. Australian Weet-Bix is made primarily from whole grain wheat (97%). A 30g serving (two biscuits) contains 1g of sugar and 0.1g of dietary fiber. I think Weetabix which you have in Canada is a similar product?

To my surprise, I found out in Canada, whole wheat flour does not include the germ; to help with longer storage. So I’ve started to add wheat germ when making bread , nicer texture , better taste and according to the nutritional values , healthier.

Just returned from Europe and stayed in hotels that provided amazing breakfast including custom omelets. This was totally new to me and I quickly discovered that I had no need/interest in having lunch at all while walking around all day. I now try and have eggs whenever I can.
Food industry is not your friend. Get informed on what are good for you, what are bad food (or have know nutritional value), and read the label. Eat it if you want - just be informed to make a better decisions in your overall diet. This strategy works for the long haul.
I eat wheat berries, quinoa, rolled oats, almonds, walnuts, grapes or other fruit…that's my morning cereal plus an apple and an orange. Whole grains…never have trouble in the bathroom. This breakfast makes me so full, I can skip lunch.
Eat the eggs and bacon and then eat the cereal for desert because that is what it is. Roundup ready wheat with white resins from the sugar they are dunked in with the sugar from the milk as well. Nothing more than a sugar bomb and not enough fiber, you will be hungry in an hour, and you can get that muffin at work at mid-morning. Cereal is a great way to get fat. maybe 2 percent is worth eating but it is not raisin brand.
Great job! It is almost impossible for many people to buy organic foods they just don't have the money. And in a world where both parents work time restraints are a huge issue.
About 15 years ago I noticed something. I would eat my cereal and save a spoonful of milk for the cat to finish off. Once I left a bit of cereal and the cat carefully licked all the milk without touching one piece of cereal. It hit me suddenly that a cat can eat just about anything but would not touch a flake of cereal. I never ate cereal again.

In one of the other videos the lady doctor reccomeded adding 1/3 of oat bran buds to your cereal if you were suffering from Hemmriods. This has actually worked for me . Ive noticed I havent had a flare up since i started doing this , I fell less bloated and feel more full. I think she called 30day Fibre Therapy ...its been a big help . 👍

Yes, almost all but ...if I 'm not mistaken, Shredded Wheat and Grape Nuts (zero sugar) and Cheerios( very little sugar). Please correct me if I am wrong. But don't eat cereal every day. Mix it up. Eggs and toast. Yogurt with fresh berries. And so forth

There is Shredded Wheat with no added sugar and then there is Shredded wheat with more or less sugar. I like Kashi SW and it has a small amount of sugar but you can get frosted SW.

Excellent video as always. I eat Bran Buds daily. This cereal has helped significantly with constipation. Now I wonder about the added sugar. By the way, I don't eat it because it tastes yummy.
I stopped eating cereal several years ago. However, I eat a yogurt bowl with a little bit of granola. But, I choose a lower sugar, low sodium granola. I just sprinkle a bit on top of my Greek yogurt and fruit. I also add walnuts, pumpkin seeds, & sunflower seeds. All unroasted & salt free. I also eat steel cut oats twice a week with nut butter & fruit & seeds/nuts. I absolutely hate eggs so this is what I came up with for my breakfast. Thanks for all the good info. Merry Christmas. 🎄 ❤

I would never give my children the cereal they sell at the grocery store. I have also read that the EWG found roundup weed killer in oatmeal. And now I just read that Costco has a recall on organic eggs for salmonella. What is safe to eat?

I make oatmeal with walnuts, raisins, a prune or two, a few almonds, frozen fruit, half a banana, topped with homemade soy yogurt, hemp seeds, pumpkin pie spice. No sugar. Very filling and tasty 😃

Your video should be shown at PTA meetings! I make my own granola from old-fashioned rolled oats (uncooked), almond slivers, raisins, add a little cinnamon then, mix in a bowl with natural maple syrup and a little canola oil (from Canada, eh). I put them on a baking sheet and bake for 75 minutes in a low temperature oven (250-degrees F). The kitchen smells great. After cooling, I put them in air tight containers. Tastes great and the fiber works!
My favourite was cinnamon toast crunch but it's a lot of sugar so I use that as a treat, and try to stick to Weetabix....and sometimes Weetos (less whole grain than original weetabix though)
I'm eating a fancy Muesli as I watch this, but I only eat 1/2 serving of it and add a 1/4 cup wheat bran, then add a half a banana, chopped half of an apple, 1tbsp of chia seeds, and 2 tbsp of plain nonfat yogurt and 1-2 tbsp of plain organic peanut butter (no sugar added), with low fat milk, or almond milk today. It tastes pretty amazing really and it gives me all the protein and fiber I need to push through much of the day

17 grams of sugar is pathetic whatever else may have been added there. Another problem area is "nature like flavor" and preservatives with mystic codes attached. We shouldn't be apologetic about rejecting those anyways.
My breakfast consists of whole oats boiled in water, nothing else. I really like the taste too. It's also a ritual to stand infront of the hob every morning and cook it.
So yes they are lower in calories. They actually only have 6g of protein. Plus cholesterol. Plus saturated fat. So how healthy they are is certainly still up for debate

Sugar not saturated fat is the enemy, as it spikes insulin and promotes insulin resistance ( and simple carbs ) that saturated fats do not Ancel Keys theories have been debunked but still persist in some circles
Hey Docs, I thought you might be doing the cereal thing after talking about it recently... I myself eat oatmeal with a banana, 1 cup of blue berries and 1/3 cup of walnuts. Not added sugar, just fructose. And yes, original cheerios only 1 gram of sugar! With very few ingredients. Glad you mentioned it as I also eat this as a snack at night. Murray Chris-miss : )
I had all the sugary cereal growing up back in the 70's. We were always told it had vitamins and minerals added so it was good for us. The food industry and their regulations need stricter guidelines. I'm a vegetarian now and try to stay away from milk unless I need it for something I'm cooking. I'm wondering if I could substitute water for the milk? Does anyone know?

Thanks for steering me in the right direction. I am very surprise that they can't create a super healthy & tasty cereal. Personally, I quit cereals after watching the movie 'Cereal Killers'. I now only eat organic steel cut oats as it only increases my blood sugar by a small amount.
T2 diabetic who LOVES cereal. I have given up eating all cereal except Cheerios. I was very happy to hear the one sentence in this video "Cheerios is one of the best cereals", which allows me to continue eating the one cereal i allow myself to eat. I don't have to give that up. This morning I'm eating broccoli, 2 eggs, and a bowl of Cheerios (without guilt).

Love your videos! Y'all are the best. I recommend Bob’s Red Mill Old Country Style Muesli - all 100% whole grain wheat, rolled oats, raisins, almonds and walnuts. No added sugar, 4 grams of fiber. Unsweetened plain organic soy milk, or use water to make it hot. Delicious!
When I walk down the cereal aisle, I just shake my head. Box after box of brightly colored enticing items that stand out to kids. I don't eat a lot of cereal but I occasionally eat a type of bran flakes or shredded wheat. Grape Nuts were a good cereal but much too crunchy for me. Then they came out with Grape Nut Flakes which worked better for me. I know a lot of people who eat cereal for dinner, especially after a long hard day and they don't want to cook. Cereal used to be a cheap meal but their price has gotten out of control. Grape Nut Flakes used to be $1.79 but after the pandemic it's now $4.79! Not just cereal but everything has gotten so expensive, it's hard to maintain a healthy diet. I think they started putting puzzles and games on the back of the cereal box so people wouldn't read the ingredients. If the cereal companies would reduce the sugar, then people could control the amount they use. It amazes me how companies charge you more when they remove something like sugar from their products. Then they charge more again when they add an alternative. It's very expensive to eat healthy all the time. Some companies sell massive amounts of junk but it's cheaper and a lot of people don't have a big choice. Food in general has doubled in price in the past few years and people are struggling to eat decent meals. Our guilty pleasures aren't reachable anymore. At least there are generic options that are more reasonable. But you still have to read the label to identify bad ingredients. Most people know how bad cereal is so you're not the bad guys here. Australian Weet-Bix is made primarily from whole grain wheat (97%). A 30g serving (two biscuits) contains 1g of sugar and 0.1g of dietary fiber.
I think Weetabix which you have in Canada is a similar product?

@@darinl848 Some have added nitrites and/or nitrates, and when they are cooked they can turn to nitrosamines which have been linked to cancer. Some also have a lot of sodium. And while correlation isn't causation, there is evidence that processed meats increase the chance of getting some kinds of cancers. One study showed that eating a slice of bacon a day in the long run would increase your chance of getting cancer by 18%.

To my surprise, I found out in Canada, whole wheat flour does not include the germ; to help with longer storage. So I’ve started to add wheat germ when making bread , nicer texture , better taste and according to the nutritional values , healthier.
You are conflating the truth. Very irresponsible. According to Health Canada - "As sold in Canada, whole wheat flour *may* have much of the germ removed." That statement flies in the face of your "facts". Not to my surprise....

Just returned from Europe and stayed in hotels that provided amazing breakfast including custom omelets. This was totally new to me and I quickly discovered that I had no need/interest in having lunch at all while walking around all day. I now try and have eggs whenever I can.

Food industry is not your friend. Get informed on what are good for you, what are bad food (or have know nutritional value), and read the label. Eat it if you want - just be informed to make a better decisions in your overall diet. This strategy works for the long haul.
30 years ago, when my children were very young, our family doctor called box cereal ‘breakfast candy’. They ate very little cereal growing up
I eat wheat berries, quinoa, rolled oats, almonds, walnuts, grapes or other fruit…that's my morning cereal plus an apple and an orange. Whole grains…never have trouble in the bathroom. This breakfast makes me so full, I can skip lunch.
Eat the eggs and bacon and then eat the cereal for desert because that is what it is. Roundup ready wheat with white resins from the sugar they are dunked in with the sugar from the milk as well. Nothing more than a sugar bomb and not enough fiber, you will be hungry in an hour, and you can get that muffin at work at mid-morning. Cereal is a great way to get fat. maybe 2 percent is worth eating but it is not raisin brand.
Great job! It is almost impossible for many people to buy organic foods they just don't have the money. And in a world where both parents work time restraints are a huge issue.
About 15 years ago I noticed something. I would eat my cereal and save a spoonful of milk for the cat to finish off. Once I left a bit of cereal and the cat carefully licked all the milk without touching one piece of cereal. It hit me suddenly that a cat can eat just about anything but would not touch a flake of cereal. I never ate cereal again.

In one of the other videos the lady doctor reccomeded adding 1/3 of oat bran buds to your cereal if you were suffering from Hemmriods. This has actually worked for me . Ive noticed I havent had a flare up since i started doing this , I fell less bloated and feel more full. I think she called 30day Fibre Therapy ...its been a big help . 👍

Do you add any nut milk? I found that oatmeal caused my blood sugar to spike. I’m trying to combine foods like add homemade nut milk to see if that helps.

Yes, almost all but ...if I 'm not mistaken, Shredded Wheat and Grape Nuts (zero sugar) and Cheerios( very little sugar). Please correct me if I am wrong.

@@TalkingWithDocs Shredded wheat contains only shredded wheat and is recommended by a cardiologist in the UK. I'm not sure about the Canadian or US versions.
There is Shredded Wheat with no added sugar and then there is Shredded wheat with more or less sugar. I like Kashi SW and it has a small amount of sugar but you can get frosted SW.

Excellent video as always. I eat Bran Buds daily. This cereal has helped significantly with constipation. Now I wonder about the added sugar. By the way, I don't eat it because it tastes yummy.
Yes the added sugar can be an issue for some. All Bran we believe has less.
The only cereal I eat is oatmeal, made by me from "old-fashioned" rolled oats. I use raisins and 2 teaspoons of brown sugar, or maple syrup.

I stopped eating cereal several years ago. However, I eat a yogurt bowl with a little bit of granola. But, I choose a lower sugar, low sodium granola. I just sprinkle a bit on top of my Greek yogurt and fruit. I also add walnuts, pumpkin seeds, & sunflower seeds. All unroasted & salt free. I also eat steel cut oats twice a week with nut butter & fruit & seeds/nuts. I absolutely hate eggs so this is what I came up with for my breakfast. Thanks for all the good info. Merry Christmas. 🎄 ❤

I would never give my children the cereal they sell at the grocery store. I have also read that the EWG found roundup weed killer in oatmeal. And now I just read that Costco has a recall on organic eggs for salmonella. What is safe to eat?
It’s hard to say but salmonella is found in eggs. And roundup is everywhere.

Your video should be shown at PTA meetings! I make my own granola from old-fashioned rolled oats (uncooked), almond slivers, raisins, add a little cinnamon then, mix in a bowl with natural maple syrup and a little canola oil (from Canada, eh). I put them on a baking sheet and bake for 75 minutes in a low temperature oven (250-degrees F). The kitchen smells great. After cooling, I put them in air tight containers. Tastes great and the fiber works!

I'm eating a fancy Muesli as I watch this, but I only eat 1/2 serving of it and add a 1/4 cup wheat bran, then add a half a banana, chopped half of an apple, 1tbsp of chia seeds, and 2 tbsp of plain nonfat yogurt and 1-2 tbsp of plain organic peanut butter (no sugar added), with low fat milk, or almond milk today. It tastes pretty amazing really and it gives me all the protein and fiber I need to push through much of the day

I tend to stay away from cereals, but when I have a hankering, I gravitate towards steelcut oats, Grape-Nuts, Wheat Chex, Total Cereal, or Shredded Wheat.

17 grams of sugar is pathetic whatever else may have been added there. Another problem area is "nature like flavor" and preservatives with mystic codes attached. We shouldn't be apologetic about rejecting those anyways.

So yes they are lower in calories. They actually only have 6g of protein. Plus cholesterol. Plus saturated fat. So how healthy they are is certainly still up for debate

Sugar not saturated fat is the enemy, as it spikes insulin and promotes insulin resistance ( and simple carbs ) that saturated fats do not Ancel Keys theories have been debunked but still persist in some circles

Hey Docs, I thought you might be doing the cereal thing after talking about it recently... I myself eat oatmeal with a banana, 1 cup of blue berries and 1/3 cup of walnuts. Not added sugar, just fructose. And yes, original cheerios only 1 gram of sugar! With very few ingredients. Glad you mentioned it as I also eat this as a snack at night. Murray Chris-miss : )

I had all the sugary cereal growing up back in the 70's. We were always told it had vitamins and minerals added so it was good for us. The food industry and their regulations need stricter guidelines. I'm a vegetarian now and try to stay away from milk unless I need it for something I'm cooking. I'm wondering if I could substitute water for the milk? Does anyone know?
I wouldn’t add water to cereal.
Water is OK with some cereals, but not all. OJ is also good with most cereals. People disagree very viscerally and refuse to try with an open mind.

Steel-cut oats (50 g) + raisins (20 g) or maybe a banana + 250 ml milk. Let it soften for half an hour. Enough energy for half a day or more.

Glad you made this video. When I am on the fence about something that is healthy or unhealthy, I look for video from a reputable & reliable source like you guys (Thank you). Thanks for steering me in the right direction. I am very surprise that they can't create a super healthy & tasty cereal. Personally, I quit cereals after watching the movie 'Cereal Killers'. I now only eat organic steel cut oats as it only increases my blood sugar by a small amount.

T2 diabetic who LOVES cereal. I have given up eating all cereal except Cheerios. I was very happy to hear the one sentence in this video "Cheerios is one of the best cereals", which allows me to continue eating the one cereal i allow myself to eat. I don't have to give that up. This morning I'm eating broccoli, 2 eggs, and a bowl of Cheerios (without guilt).
Cheerios is not the best the docs need to do a bit more research. Shredded wheat is, because of the fiber and very little sugar.

For my breakfast I have one cup of one minute oatmeal, 50 ml of 1% milk and one tablespoon of raspberry jam. Is it a very healthy, healthy or not so healthy breakfast? I'm confused.
So the instant oatmeals are often more processed. Rolled oats would be a healthier choice if possible

Love your videos! Y'all are the best. I recommend Bob’s Red Mill Old Country Style Muesli - all 100% whole grain wheat, rolled oats, raisins, almonds and walnuts. No added sugar, 4 grams of fiber. Unsweetened plain organic soy milk, or use water to make it hot. Delicious!

When I walk down the cereal aisle, I just shake my head. Box after box of brightly colored enticing items that stand out to kids.
I don't eat a lot of cereal but I occasionally eat a type of bran flakes or shredded wheat.
Grape Nuts were a good cereal but much too crunchy for me. Then they came out with Grape Nut Flakes which worked better for me.
I know a lot of people who eat cereal for dinner, especially after a long hard day and they don't want to cook.
Cereal used to be a cheap meal but their price has gotten out of control.
Grape Nut Flakes used to be $1.79 but after the pandemic it's now $4.79!
Not just cereal but everything has gotten so expensive, it's hard to maintain a healthy diet.
I think they started putting puzzles and games on the back of the cereal box so people wouldn't read the ingredients.
If the cereal companies would reduce the sugar, then people could control the amount they use.
It amazes me how companies charge you more when they remove something like sugar from their products. Then they charge more again when they add an alternative.
It's very expensive to eat healthy all the time. Some companies sell massive amounts of junk but it's cheaper and a lot of people don't have a big choice.
Food in general has doubled in price in the past few years and people are struggling to eat decent meals. Our guilty pleasures aren't reachable anymore.
At least there are generic options that are more reasonable. But you still have to read the label to identify bad ingredients.
Most people know how bad cereal is so you're not the bad guys here.
