2021 will be a good year for LeMans with new Hyper Sport Series to replace LMP1 Class. It's going to bring back cars that have really interesting, distinctive shapes and designs just like this 64 Panhard CD LM64. What a classic and characterful aero race car.
Their P17 saloon car at the relaunch of the Panhard Marque in 1959 was another small engined aerodynamic masterpiece, slightly aping the Citroën DS but very striking in appearance.
OMG thanks this is one of my favorite cars you rock another one to add to my favorites I listen to me when I get stressed out and it comes me right down
@@leneanderthalien I did not say it was a 2CV engine either. Or a Plymouth. But if a supercharged 2CV was paired with a Superbird, this would be it, it even has the color! Except this came out first, so maybe it is the Panhard and a Road Runner that makes an Superbird?
Hi Bozzy.👋 Thanks for filming and sharing this amazing machine. Until now, I had never seen or heard of this car. The shape is sleek and awesome and as a result, the numbers are astonishing. There may be some better, but I think 0.12 is the lowest coefficient of drag I've ever seen.😲 And that amount of performance from only 78hp... wow! Thanks as always for the detailed information in the description.🙏 Have a great day, sir.
I raced together with this car in my Dyna Z in 2005. The CD made more then 1000km in 12 Hours, we made 840km, with nearly the same small motor. The CD will be always my dream Panhard Car, neither as the Le Mans Version or street version...
Ummm....thanks for asking, and yes, I am OK. Beauty,as someone once said, is in the eye of the beholder. Why, there may actually someone who believes that you-Yes! Even you!!- are beautiful, too. Have an open mind.
Absolutely right! Additionally, lighter cars cause less damage in accidents, have shorter braking distances, lower fuel consumption and do far less damage to the roads! With modern technology, they can be stronger, than today's "Dustbins"!
This aerodynamic efficiency is similar to that os the Tortoice. Makes you wonder what the Tortoice is capable of? That was joke btw but not the coefficient.
Bijzonder! Als jongetje was de Panhard Levassor mijn favoriete auto. Altijd geprobeerd mijn vader zover te krijgen. Helaas, na de Traction werd het een Opel.
Incredible!... Incroyable even... It' sounds like the slightly fucked Ford Anglia Estate my mate drove to the Alps back in 1980! i AM AMAZED... XXX :-)
Wonderful stuff. Looks like it has had something laid on the rear of the roof at some stage (2.36min best view) which gives a 'dent' type of appearance in certain light situations. Possibly stress in that area at high speeds?
Unfortunetly the faster a car goes the more downforce is needed to keep it on the track and downforce increases drag coefficent and if that car had any serious HP it would end up tree art.
I know Panhard used a flat 4 stroke twin, but this one did sound very much like a 2 stroke. Reading it has a supercharger so likely a cam made for higher RPM it's the cause of the sharp exhaust tone.
It's a supercharged 2cylinder boxer flat French engine, in one of the lightest, and the most aerodynamic efficient car ever made, and that's make 78hp, at 220 mph if I remember correctly
I don't think it's a dent. The depression is right in the middle and is symmetrical. The profile of the car is like a wing, which creates lift. Lift would make the car unstable at speed. I suspect that it is an aerodynamic curve, put there as a way to disrupt the smooth airflow a bit, reducing lift, without creating much drag.

Wow, never knew about this, but 78 HP and 220 KMH? Amazing
Yeah that's crazy
Don't know how nervous is the car at 220kmh though, if it won't have much stability from aerodynamics 😅

I only hate one thing about your videos...

It almost looks like it was the inspiration for some of the cars in the Fallout PC games.
Those cars are based more on 1950's designs.

Those little teardrop lights on the rear end are from aviation. I recognize them from old aircraft I worked on.
Never heard of this thanks again for sharing these gems! Sounds like a rotary!
Little engine, big numbers! This car is wacky for me, especially those things at the back. Great filming!
I remember it: only a flat twin of under 900 cc and a low rate compressor, it matched 208 km/h in the Hunaudiéres straight. Thanks 19Bozzy92
It`s like a supercharged racing 2CV with a Superbird body, an early european Superbird that is. Cool car, never heard of it.
nothing to doe with the Citroën 2cv, the flat 2cyl from the Panhard Levassor is totaly different...

this is why modern cars should be light and aerodynamic and not solid 2 ton bricks

I thought that was a Dodge Daytona/Plymouth Superbird wing on that back of that car LOL
the thing is this car can do around 220km/h with only 78 horsepower is just impressive for me
How fast would a replica with a BMW GS 1200 engine be ? 250 km/h ?
My dad used to own a dyna Z 1956 panhard but we had to sell it when he passed away
That car should be driven by someone dressed as a puppet from the Thunderbirds.
Stunning shape
As it was driving away from the camera, it looked as though the roof was dented. Was I imagining it?
I saw that too

I hope there will be a BEV or other EV that could beet it. I like the panhard CD of course the weight of it is small and that's good
Plymouth Superbird's little cousin

it looks so sad with that little grill mouth. Wonder how much of an impact on the drag coefficient turning that frown upside down would cause.

Nice car, thanks, but I prefer the Ferrari 275 at 1:55 and the Miura at 2:45
Am I seeing things or there was a massive dent on the roof? 2:33 That doesn't look like a normal aerodynamic curve...
Supercharged two-stroke
I bet a lot of French hot rodders were swapping these engines into Citroen 2CVs, Fiat Topolinos, Fiat 500s, etc.
