- My 1988 Swift Kontiki motorhome, which I call "The Mansion", has been stuck in one place unable to start. I have been kept busy for a month with other repairs, but is this the day it finally moves?
Wow, leaps and bounds this week, repairs and renovation on the mansion now underway, back on the open road! I could sense and see your excitement as you got back behind the wheel! 👍😊
You always get it, Nigel, which is why you are getting a pinned comment two videos in a row! 📌 📍
I admire your tenacity.
Anything but houselife.
What a great guy tony is and brilliant to see the mansion coming along 👍
It's all good.
Could watch you all day Tim
If you were to binge watch all of my episodes back to back without sleeping, it would take a week.
This is amazing 😂. Proper positive episode. The vans drying out and started! Whatever next.... can't wait.
Stoked!
Well done that’s the main leaks sorted, the Kon Tiki is no longer a Kon Leaky! The problem with motorhomes and caravans is the factory sealant eventually fails with age and add to that the immense structural loading occurring when the vehicle is in transit. The roof seams need further attention on your vehicle from the footage I have seen of damp ingress. I use Captain tollies creeping crack cure on mine to periodically repair any imperfections in the roof joints and seams windows etc it can seal up to 1mm cracks and is less viscous than water.
I'm going to revisit the roof and repaint it with water-repellent fibreglass paint.
@@SocksWithSandals That will sort the main roofs surface weatherproofing out but won’t address any damp ingress via the seams. Loving the content by the way, you have worked hard this week pushing the videos out well done!
Absolutely delighted it started well done Tim well done, you got it running now all you have to do is finish the other projects and then your good to go 👍
It's been quite a week, Patrick.
@@SocksWithSandals it certainly has Tim but keep going at it because it will be worth it in the end.
Well done pall you deserve it with all that you have done 😎👍❤️
Cheers, Alan.
It's alive!!!
That's quite a journey you've come through from episode 1 of the Pug Palace conversion to today. Flashing looks great.🤞
The only thing is I was thinking maybe you should soak in preservative that wood strut at the door.
That'll be lovely and cosy for the winter with the diesel heater and some LED strip mood-lighting.
Come mid-March next year, we'll be five years into this New World Order, and they've only just got started.
Mansion is looking and sounding good now X All your hard work and perseverance is paying off X
Still a way to go, Jennifer, before I can lock up the tools and forget where they are.
lovely gearbox. That's nice that Tony is still supporting. Looking forward to seeing how she drives.
There's certainly is a knack to changing gears.
Good things come to those with patience, well done for sticking it to the nay sayers. Onwards with the progress Tim.
I take advice from people who know what they're talking about.
great result tim ,yer can see it written all over your face ,not only a usable vehicle but home ,tony looked well chuffed as well, your well on the way ,no idea on solar bit, but hopefully someone can help yer out with that one a very eventful week thats been improving all week along with the weather,😁😎 cheers sam
That was quite a mission this week, Sam!
Amazing progress, great to see you out and about in the mansion.
Cheers, Other Nigel.
Good to see that smile back Socks 🎉
Yeah, it's been a while, Paul.
Great voltage went to 13.5 so we know it's not the altenator it's charging but a new battery required, great to hear it running ,one thing I always do in bigger vechicles is change out the altenator and starter ,aa their the two most items that can cause the most trouble ,ie not been able to move,, which when your vechicle is this size is a problem , also halfords do a little jump pack I'll send the link
I have a jump pack, but yes I will take your advice on replacing the starter, battery, and alternator.
Also another thing with larger vehicle s wheel nuts can be a problem so you will need to open all your wheels nuts and apply some grease ,also a 3/4 inch breaker bar and half inch adapter to suit standard half inch sockets sorry about the long list I learned the hard way having been stranded a few times
Brilliant,so happy for you Mr socks .
Thank you, Steven.
The mansion is alive! However! Charley the safety cat says: Always remove the black lead first from a jump start 🙀
There are no electronics in a 1988 diesel van. FYI.
@@SocksWithSandals Yes, but the reason being is if the removed red clamp were to come into contact with the chassis somehow (drop it or accidently touch the bodywork) with the black ( -ve ) still connected, then that would short out the other battery. Unlikely but you know Charley is all over H&S ⚡
What a daft reason. I'll be happy to ignore that advice from now on.
Get the new battery and you'll be mobile.
Looking forward to your first outing in the new pad.
Well done Tim.
Let's see if the current starter battery recovers, and whether I can get the solar panels charging it.
Thankyou
🤛🏼
Brilliant buddy!!!🎉
Thanks, El.
Great stuff Tim and getting sorted just in time for the winter months. I'm so pleased for you. Looking forward to more adventures. Have you seen your old mate Nomadic Kangoo is back in his new Kangoo. Take care.👍
Yeah we're definitely in Autumn now, John.
It's coming together now.👌👍
Bet you were smiling like a Cheshire cat, finally driving that down some Country roads ! up and up from here for the mansion
With any old vehicle, saeing it start and drive is obviously an encouraging sign.
Go on lad!
Get in! 🤞🏼💪🏽
Excellent 👍
Paint the bitumen over the top of the finished flashing
We'll see how this solution works before I get up on that roof again.
Another small victory👍
This is how wars are won.
Back in the rd. Cool
RV?
Yeah things are looking up... One step at a time and you get there in the end...
Julie Andrews: "Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th".
Nice one
Nice one 👍👍
It’s a Peugeot 2.5 engine, of course it will start. And go for hundreds of thousands of miles.
It's only done 82000 miles in 35 years. That's nothing!
At last, the Mansion is mobile. There's no stopping you now, Socks.
Ain't no stopping me now, I'm on the move!
It’s looking good Tim, you’re getting there! Do you still speak to and see Nomadic Kangoo? As I remember you being friends…
I'm getting there. Soon I will be getting about an meeting more of Britain's incredible vanlife community.
Glad you got it going. I had suggested hitting the starter motor others said bad Earth etc, what do we know 😂. Love the brick work.
Have you seen the 400w Solar panels at city plumbing under £70 and have you considered a Victron charge controller.
All advice is gratefully received, but I'm obviously going to attempt the cheapest easiest fixer first. From now till the beginning of March you can forget solar, but it certainly will be something I'll be looking at next year
Tone’s a good lad.
He really made sure "The Mansion" went to a good home.
Freedom on wheels..whoop, whoop.
🎺
Tony’s nice fella
Geezer
Hi Tim 7 well done you!
The channel Wandering Walter, on his latest vid he shows how he's got around leaks on his Swift Kontiki. Just thought it might help, for any future damp issue.
Good research, Andrew.
Are you considering some sort of insulation Tim?
I will repair the damaged areas, but leave the rest as it left the factory
💙❤️❤️❤️💙❤️❤️💙❤️💙
The red hearts are consecutive.
It's like reading the tea leaves to glean meaning.
Nice 👍 👍👍👍
He who dares..
Fortune favours the bold, old boy!
POT is the geezer!
From his point of view, I am Future Owner Tim. Never bought a vehicle before where the previous owner was so invested in seeing it restored to its former glory.
I think we got ourselves a temporal paradox!
Old vans but gold if fiat ducato bullet proof engine
Yes. Mine just needs some long overdue maintenance.
@@SocksWithSandals coastal motorhomes is yoir friend for parts
Brick work inside van. It’s going to weigh tons.
Fake stick on brickwork, Richard.
@@SocksWithSandals oh that’s ok then.
don't use the link relay to charge starter battery from the house battery.
you are better using a DC to DC charger as it steps up the house battery to a charge voltage to properly maintain the van battery
Yeah, it's not the best set up, but I only discovered the connections for a second battery under the driver's seat last week.
There was a chorus of Eisteddfodic harps and angels cheering when you turned that ignition. The sound effect at 0:26, was it really the ketchup bottle?
You'll have to tune in to the next episode to see if I'm wearing the same pants as yesterday!
@@SocksWithSandals 🤣
Did i read the speedo correctly ? 8000 mls ? ,. Brilliantly launched to, is she road legal ? tax, mot, insurance ? van insurance is expensive , theres a firm around coventry/warwickshire, that specializes in van/motorhome/horsebox's,.googles your friend,. cheers ,.
No, Mike.
82,000 miles all the tickets.
@@SocksWithSandals Just jumped back to this video and the mansion sounds sweet, i had an old LDV with a peugeot in it and it ran brilliantly, ive got a 2010 mondeo mk 2.2 and thats got a peugeot engine in it to and its a peach,.
You always seem soo disparaging of Didcot!?
Yeah, accompanied by video evidence.
I have travelled all over Britain and filmed so many beautiful places. Even nearby, I don't have a bad word to say about Abingdon, Oxford (architecturally), Newbury, Clifton Hampden, Dorchester on Thames, Burford. Oxfordshire is extremely rich in beautiful towns. Then there's Didcot {shudder}.
Mansion on the move, hopefully leaks sorted🫰,you will be able to move in soon and finish interior at your leisure, take care tim🤗♥️🏴
I have no choice; winter's coming and the road tax on Pack It In Stan expires in November.
