Sewing Iconic Barbie Dress for Smart Doll - Bob Mackie's Madame du Barbie

- In this special collaboration, I re-created an iconic @Barbie dress in Smart Doll size: Bob Mackie's Madame du Barbie. I even built it using 18th century methods from @AbbyCox and @AmericanDuchess1. This was the most challenge project I've done yet and after many sleepless nights its finally DONE!

I agree, but there are so many iconic looks. I’m sure we will tackle Carol Spencer eventually. I think all four channels chose things that were in their personal style/taste. 😊

I’m a period drama person myself. I went to school for acting and spent most of my time in corsets and petticoats so this was really fun to do.
I cannot get over how epic this dress is. Oh my GOD. That is a work of art and I hope you are so proud of the work you did! I can’t imagine how much time and effort went into this gown but it was worth it! What an amazing outcome!

WOW💙WOW💙WOW💙 Sandee & John, this is truly one of the most epic creations I’ve ever seen for a doll. I absolutely loved how you made all the under garments and stays ( I was like, surely she’s not going to make all that….?🫣). The whole dress is an amazing piece of art sculpture, everything is just breathtaking Sandee and she looks so regal, I can see her performing in a period piece on the stage🎭. Me too! I think someone would have to move out to make space for it though...
The machine I have is the Janome Skyline s9. It’s a combo machine and if you are looking to upgrade or get an additional machine I highly recommend it. It’s a great way to dip into machine embroidery without going crazy, and you get a sewing machine that has features for garment sewists and quilters
STUPENDOUSLY GORGEOUS I just stared at the finished product the whole time in awe (also, as a fan of folks like Bernadette Banner and Abby Cox, I was delighted to see the emphasis you put into creating the proper undergarments - thank you for that attention to detail!)

I admire your use historical references, it was such a fascinating process to watch! You should do a full photoshoot with the dolls helping her get dressed and show off your hard work on the undergarments! Especially the shoes! I was so shocked when you mentioned they weren’t used! I love them !!

Definitely possible. I would like to take an 80s or 90s pink box doll and make it more Smart Doll quality in terms of fabrics etc

SISTER WE WALK THE SAME BARBIE PATH (well, I collected Barbies into my teens, kind of petered out in my twenties, sporadically from there, couldn’t tell you what face mold is what now because Barbie quality is utter crap these days and don’t get me started on latest repro Ken because I can go elsewhere) but oh my god I LOVE THAT YOU DID THIS PROJECT!!!!!!!!!! While Barbie looks great, she can't compare to Madame Du Smartie! That is one beautiful gown and a whole lot of work. I love the embroidery you did and the detailed undies, too. The wig goes with it perfectly, too. Have a great day!

This is such a brilliant idea, bravo guys - I love all the themed collaborations!! I DO wish you’ll do a part two of a Barbie colab, so we get some of those icon 80’s looks! Have to say too, GUYS your production level is so impressive, and it keeps getting better and better - the music, the opening montage, the mood lighting, the camera work, the video format - one of the most sophisticated doll channels out there - hats off.

I love it! Barbie was my first collection as an adult, and I love Smart Doll! Maybe you could do one of the vintage Barbie looks, like Black Magic or Poodle Parade or Sorority Meeting? Those are three of my favorites, although I don’t own any of them.

This collab is just so cool. I love this look. It's over the top and looks amazing. I've been meaning to try tiny doll corsetry myself. I love the look it gives. I also Love hand embroidery and I really want to try beading. The machine embrodery is beautiful.
I fully intend to do a hand beaded piece. Tambour work is so cool. Machine embroidery just opens up a lot of creative ideas though ☺️

You can totally sew. The key is picking stuff that is achievable. I could totally have gotten even closer to the original but I did not have time for all the new skills. 😁 I did a video making a dress out of an already made little girl’s skirt. Just one seam. Great for a beginner

The peplum type piece? Its a 60” sequined net that I cut and gathered myself. I got it at Joann’s.
