[AGDQ 2021] Zelda: Skyward Sword Any% Speedrun in
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 21 окт 2024
- This was my showcase of Skyward Sword Any% at AGDQ 2021. Except for the one missed Rerverse BitWarp I'm very happy with this run! It's one of the better marathon runs I've done and a great showcase of Skyward Sword all around.
Special shoutout to my fellow commentator Peppernicus:

i cant believe this game's any% at one point was 6 hours long
Right ? At AGDQ last year, the same category was 2:30:00 ish ! incredible how much this run has changed in a year ! that reminds me of the time Barrier skip was found in WW, and how much that cut down the any% category
We've come so far.
I was literally thinking of that too, this run is amazing, loved being able to follow its progression.
I just seen the agdq 2020 run and then take a quick look at gym's channel and now the run is one hour less what happened XD
I can’t believe is the any% was around 2:30 only a year ago. And over 5 hours I believe the year before that.
Such a great run, the time puts it 4th in the world which is incredible for a showcase. Well done
it's what you'd expect of a route only like 5 people in the world can do
@@Martykun36 I'm pretty sure Gym is the top 3 as well
@@AgaetiAlex Gym has WR in this cat doesn't he?
@@shuttlecrossing1433 yes
@@shuttlecrossing1433 I think he at one point held the WR in all of he major categories
this wasnt watchable because Gym had his shirt on
“Link fucking dies”: the speedrun
skyward sword and both versions of ocarina of time fit this description
The only speedrun I've seen that makes dying look complicated.
To me, it's insane just how different this run could've been simply because of arbitrary decisions made by the developers years ago. Like there's no reason why two scene flags from different scenes share the same number, it just so happens that the game was made that way. But if those flags were all stored differently, then maybe we would have to do completely different yet still seemingly random actions to affect things in other places. Anyway, great run, and great commentary!
It does make sense if you consider them as subvalues. Like you have the different regions, and each region has specific flags with values. It's easier to just number them per region than it is to try and number them all globally
Reverse bit magic is still the greatest name there is
I love how it was first "back in time" in twilight princess, then in windwaker and then in skiward sword
then they found "BIT magic" and then "reverse BIT magic" ^^'
@@Sordorack imagine what skyward sword glitches would be like if BiT was never called that in twilight princess...
@@phantom_isle Title screen warping, title screen magic... it doesn't sound like we're hacking into the game's code and modifying the bytes of the game like in SMBW, it sounds like what it is.
I didn't know AGDQ was on this year! Glad to see it, though.
It's still going on, this run was only a couple hours ago.
@@meeturself
Ah that’s why there was no stream yesterday. I was wondering why
fun fact for the timer, those 6 bar sections that pair up with Hour/Minute/Second/Subsecond represent 4 binary bits which is known as a nibble!
Its insane how much the times were ground down with this game. I remember any% being over 4 hours long.
gym ran this same category at sgdq 2018 in almost five and a half hours, and now only 2 and a half years later the time is down by four hours. that's insane
I actually watched over the 2 week period as the run lost huge amounts of time from all the new techniques. So amazing to see a category of a game you love get carved from an absolute beast of a run into one short enough to watch in one sitting.
@@kiranaun9593 I have probably watched gym run any% hundreds of times, starting shortly before he found the reverse BIT magic all the way up to the current route. I don't know why, but it's one of a few games that I don't mind seeing ran multiple times.

Does anyone have a link to-oh stfu🤣. Does anyone have a link to older skyward sword any% runs that are like 4 hours+
This is one of the most confusing speed run category I’ve seen
I feel like at this point you can teach an entire college course on how this run works.
“it’s *MY* sleepover and *I* get to pick the movie”
i love how he casually does the last fight blindfolded
Yeah true
In AQDG 2020 it was already sometimes difficult to follow what is done where with which file, now in 2021 it is even more crazy. But it is explained very well, many thanks for all the background information! That is not just amazing because he can keep track of all those details, but also because he and the community were/are able to put together these complex routes, including all the time needed to test and find out what must be done to prevent crashes. As we see, these flags affect different places in pretty different ways, and something you don't expect may be very important. Because of this the game is also very unique in the world of speedruns
Stayed up late last night to watch this run to its conclusion live. Skyward Sword has become one of my favorite speed games to watch thanks to your runs, and it's impressive just how far down the time has been brought. Loved the run, loved your commentary, and absolutely loved the blindfolded finale!
I havent watched gym in a while, I really like the facial hair. Suits him well
I was checking the comments to see if anyone thought so as well, that goatee fits him well indeed !
I think I saw gymnast86 at a west coast weekend first, and I was like that’s a cool runner, then I saw him in lowest percentage and now I’m officially a fan
Edit: the host is so bubbly and happy. I couldn’t help but smile when she was reading donations
She's a crowd favorite for sure. Her reactions to the Wand of Gamelon cutscenes are amazing
Saw the last 20 minutes or so live. The ending was impressive. :)
couldn't watch it live due to it being 5 AM in my country, glad you uploaded it!
that woman lowkey carried the stream... she was so happy and positive
Kinda dig these online GDQs.
I feel like I'm just in a discord with a couple homies who are really good at speedrunning.
Wow you keep on crushing your own world records and setting low times keep it up I love watching your speedruns of skyward swords and seeing how you get a sub 1:30:00
Watched the entire run! Great job!! ❤️
I really like how he explains what he’s doing and how the tricks work.
Speedrunners: What if your whole quest only takes an hour and a half?
Link: Sounds great!
Speedrunners: Cool. You're about to die 22 times.
Link: Wait, what?
Really wanted to see this live but, alas, timezones.
This run is reaching Pokemon Gen 1 levels of broken lmao
Speedrunners: the only people who have ever in their lives cared about the Wii Motion Plus tutorial
Dang I remember the previous online GDQ skyward sword run, crazy we’re still locked down
Literally menuing while playing the game!
Basically playing 2 games at once this entire time!
This is such a crazy run!
This is so complicated I have no idea what's going on but it's fun to watch
such is life
You are a very skilled and knowledgeable runner. super underrated in my opinion.
What a run! Congrats gym :) also shoutouts to peppernicus for the nice co commentary ! 👌
Great commentary, always appreciate someone who explains the steps!
Man, Back in Time really tore open this game. It’s amazing comparing this run in 2018 to this one
Great run! Was nice seeing it live with the comments. Keep it up!
So glad I saw this live. You did a great job 😊
Lamp... How appropriate that the 6 other lamps are off-camera today
What a really good run for the AGDQ. GG for sub 1:30 Gymnast 😀
Gym is so ridiculously good at that blindfolded Demise fight.
I got so close to beating skyward sword, but my disc broke, and I've been trying to find a new copy ever since
Old Wii games are really hard to come by nowadays sadly - there is always the possibility of playing through it on an emulator!
@@Adrian-ch1hb And not only that, but the game ironically plays better on an emulator too. Upscaled resolution, and you can actually bind sword swings to DIRECTIONAL BUTTONS. No more flicking the controllers around and getting incorrect inputs, no more annoying controller calibration (you still need to use the mouse to position the sword tho, but that's a minor inconvenience)
I found a copy for my self a year ago at GameStop
I got lucky as hell and found a copy at Gamestop by me like a week ago (with the manual, great condition case and the 25th anniversary CD). I scooped it so quick cause I knew it wouldn't be there if I waited lol
You could use an emulator or homebrew your wii (which is really easy)
Aww I will say the one thing I miss from last year's AGDQ run was how funny it was that he could just walk right past the first Ghirahim fight and skip it all. I burst out laughing when he originally did that.
Incredible run to watch! Great job gymnast! Highly entertaining, love your detailed explanations.
I just need three words to describe how it feels watching this video:
"I am confusion"
always gotta drop a like on a gym video
Skyward sword is one of the most mind blowing speedruns
Great commentary from both of you, as a skyward sword noob i really needed it to not get completely lost! Take care
Another excellent run Gym, I wish I had been able to see it live.
thanks gdq for always uploading the runs, would've really like to watch it live, but timezones...
I like the donation person. She's a staple to a gymnast gdq run
There are no more than 3 separate timelines, so it's at least as understandable as the official Zelda timeline!
How much more crazy could this run be if there was 4 save slots
I dont know, but its a very good question tho
So glad you could get a great final horde and boss battle! It made for a great ending to the run
1:23:40 dang the new Hyrule Warriors game looks great!
It’s leaked beta footage
You make this game look short lol
awesome run
Its so strange that this came out just 1 month before Skyward Sword HD was anounced
And if AGDQ 2021 happened after that announcement, then Gymnast could've mentioned how the HD version will most definitely have Back In Time 'patched', as the Switch's Home Menu options function MUCH differently from the Wii, and that there's no way to soft reset the game.
@@michaeljfan9720 yup
Guy playing Skyward Sword the intended way: Oh gosh, this boss was so hard!
Speedrunner: Which one do you mean? 1st Girahim or Scaldera?
I only have ONE question. What was for dinner?
Its soooo cool how people figure all this out
Who's here after HD got announced?
Me
Remember when this run was 4 times the current length? What a time
This game is so broken... The amount of glitches is just insane.
Can we really call skyward sword hd the defenitive version to play the game, it doesn’t have the “how to connect wii motion plus” video
interesting...i dont think ive ever actually seen the death cutscene while on the loftwing! At least, not during casual play.
hi 🏳️⚧️
I have a question, last year at 2020 gym did a speed run at gdq. the run was around 2:30:00, this year it is about an hour shorter. What new thing was discovered that allowed it to become so much shorter?
Watch the run and find out, as far as I can see there's a WILD difference between the two runs
The Big one was a way to access the boss rush early. The old route had to go through some dungeons to fight Imprisoned 1 and 2 in the sealed grounds to make sure flags were set right. With the new trick, you can easily access them in the boss rush. You don't even need to finish the fights, just entering is all that's needed
One of the most confusing runs I have ever seen
New idea of timeline. Try to create one that explain ALL speedruns of zelda. In one
1:16:18 your reaction killed me
great run. disappointed I couldn't see it live
When he finished the run, there were 86k viewers watching and his final time was a little over 86 minutes.
Coincidence?
*I think not.*
He did so much yet so little
god, this was amazing!
Why is it called Back In Time and not Link to the Past?....
Congrats on the run
Where could u See that live
Twitch.tv/gymnast86
@@loudkraken thx
The time difference since the last time I watched an SS speedrun lol 4.5 hour difference impressive
amazing start ily
1:18:40 does something weird happens with the stream? Is it my connection? The game and gym's face make a sudden change. I'll check the games done quick to see if it happens too.
Also, awesome run! I'm loving it
Yeah, looks like a small desync
amazing! and that ending!
Why is there a hashtag for Twilight Princess on this video?
Great run, thanks a lot
The Legend of Zelda: Skyloft Sceneflags
Nice job gym!
Do you know what’s happening with lowest percent?
text takes time to show up, so how much longer does the run get from naming yourself LAMP instead of G?
Text (especially Japanese text) moves very quickly in this game, and a huge amount of it is skipped. The time wasted by picking a longer file name probably only wastes a handful of frames throughout the run.
"Marimata ha h'tsu" - Fi
Great run Gym :)
What a great run!
I wonder how the hell do they keep finding new reverse bit magic tricks and stuff
I remember when RBM was first discovered and there was a Google sheet made where it was just a list of every single scene flag in the entire game. They were hunting for a way to do song of the hero skip and they found out it wasn't possible with just skyloft BIT. Then, a few weeks later, Faron BIT was discovered. Fucking wild
WAND OF GAMELON HYPE
Well it's an awesome run , but having the tittle screen half the run on the screen cuts me a alot off.
good job gymbo!
This man is insane
you still second place for 100% gymnast86
Stephen Hawking would be proud.
You look EXACTLY like my brother-it’s uncanny.
Honk! > LAMP
Lmao! Need a PHD for this speed run! God damn
Honestly pretty boring tho :/
