Hare Krishna! I totally agree with your logic that we don't remember our previous birth because then we will not be able to lead our present life peacefully. But, I have a doubt- because we don't remember the mistakes we have committed for which we also face the consequences, how would our soul grow and improve?
Usually even if we know the past mistakes may same mistake we will not repeat but other mistakes we will do due to we have sinful propensity of our heart. So it will not very helpful to know past. Rather than in any situation if we do bhakti it can purify us completely and eradicate all suffering.
