  • Here is a custom 2022 Harley-Davidson Softail Standard Stage 1 review that includes the exhaust sound of the SAWICKI SPEED 2 in 1 exhaust on the new 2022 FXST! Is Stage 1 Worth it?? This was my first time testing out a Stage 1 Harley-Davidson Softail Motorcycle and let me tell you, it was a night and day difference! The riding characteristics changed so much with the Stage 1 kit on the softail. The Milwaukee 8 engine roared without any boundaries and the 107CI engine felt like it had fast legs! Be sure to watch the Sawicki Speed M8 exhaust sound on the highway!
    If I was getting a softail standard, I would most definitely recommend doing a Stage 1 on the FXST! The exhaust sound from the Sawicki Speed Shop was just amazing! I hope I get a chance to install one on my Iron 883 ‪@sawickispeedshop8702‬ !
    Special thanks to Steeve from ‪@BarnesHarleyDavidson‬ ‪@harleydavidson‬ for letting me review these bikes!

    Stage one adds exactly what you want. When I bought my bike I was going to have the stage one, new pipes, air filter with the SE tuning done before I even rode it. The mechanic urged me to ride my bike for a week first without explaining, he said “trust me”. I obliged. Then when I got the stage one I was blown away just like your experience. I phoned the mechanic the next day thanking him for his advice. He said I would have never known the improvement if I didn’t ride it without stage one first. So glad I did it that way.

      I have a bassani road rage "ripper" 2-1 stainless exhaust on my 2020 standard and love it. Really love 2-1 exhaust on Harleys, probably never use anything else. Stealth pipes makes a really nice 2-1, if I didn't have my bassani already I'd grab their polished stainless steel 2-1

    I had commented in a previous video that I yearned for years to get a Fat Boy to replace my '09 Sportster 1200 Custom. Lots of nice people gave me good advice letting me know that the FB is a very heavy and expensive bike. Since then, I've been thinking that the ST Standard costs thousands less and weighs 55 lbs less than the FB and yet it's the same chassis, motor, and drivetrain. Seeing the Standard with the Stage One on it pretty much seals the deal for me. I think I like it a lot.

    KS, I'm so jelly right now. There are no dealerships within an hours drive of me and the 3 nearest ones have no bikes like this in stock. It's always freezing, cloudy, and raining. I got one cool but sunny day to ride, around March 10, and that was it. You're so lucky to have a dealership with test bikes to try out and weather good enough to make it possible to ride around. The way the weather is here (Southern Ontario), I won't get out until May.

    I think it's a lot cheaper to do the stage one yourself. On my Sportster, I installed an Arlen Ness inverted air-cleaner, Vance and Hines 3" Twin-slash slipons, and the V&H FuelPak 3, total cost was about $1800 CAD, or $1260 USD. Made all the difference in the world. My only regret is not doing it years sooner instead of being such a cheap sob. Now I have a set of Progressive 412 shocks sitting on the bench so those are going on next.

    • @KSMotoCafe
      @KSMotoCafe  2 года назад +1

      wait so I have the same slip-ons and you are saying with better air cleaner and fp3, it improved the performance noticeably?

    • @bill392
      @bill392 2 года назад +1

      @@KSMotoCafe Yes. Compared to stock, my bike has transformed its entire personality. I've read that the stage one adds about 7 to 10 HP but I feel like it's got to be a little more because I can really feel the difference. The power increase was immediately obvious the first time out. Before I did upgrades, my bike had a tendency to almost stall every time trying to get going from a stop. I'd turn the throttle and it would lug for a second and then suddenly catch itself and lurch ahead. The cooler it was, the worse the hesitation would be. After the slip-ons, that hesitation just disappeared and it sounded so much better. Suddenly it was fun to ride because I'd turn the throttle and it would just go like it's supposed to. There was a little bit more power too but there was a lot of decel popping indicating that it was running too lean, which leads to the engine running hotter than it should. After installing the high-flow air-cleaner and then flashing a new map using an FP3, the decel pop is gone and there's noticeably more power right across the entire rpm range. I just love my bike now. It just pulls like a train. I installed the Progressive 412 shocks (mine are 412-4064C) just this past Sunday and I rode the bike to work and back today for the first time on those shocks and the difference is night and day. I started running over manholes and railroad tracks (without clenching up first) just to try it and the bike rolled over that stuff like a champ. No more spine-banging. Regular paved roads used to make my teeth rattle at times but now they feel smooth and comfortable. I finally now understand how people can ride all day. I never could before because the whole experience was just too rough and tiring. Now it's nice. With the new seat, new shocks, and the stage one upgrade, the Sportster 1200C is an amazing machine. From now on, my advice to everyone will be not to wait and to get the upgrades asap. My stock shocks were 11.5" with 2" travel. It was a very stiff ride and I always found the bike kind of hard to turn corners in town. I installed 12.5" with 3" travel on preload step 3 of 5. I did it myself in less than an hour. I'm lucky that I have a good hydraulic bike jack, a torque wrench, and a T50 Torx bit. The first time sitting on it, I could tell that it had been raised just a little and the lean on the jiffy stand is a little greater but not so far as to become a risk of falling. The bike now tips into turns with almost no effort and I really like the way it handles now. I would not have believed that adding 1" of rear height would effect it positively so much but it did. If anyone dares to go even higher like 13.5" or 14", be prepared to replace the jiffy stand too with a longer/taller one. I went with 12.5" because I didn't want too much rear fender gap but I did want more travel. I also went with the standard rate spring, not the heavy duty spring. I'm pretty heavy at 245 lbs and that's right at the point where it's recommended to go for the heavy duty spring but I read some comments from people who did that and said that the ride was too stiff. I went with the standard spring and on the middle preload and I really like it. Also, I switched from HD Dunlop tires to the Shinko 777 and I like them a lot better. They have way more grip and cornering is easier. I don't know if that's due to their profile or what but I noticed a big improvement riding the first few blocks.
