      Thanks! The updates that are manually installed at the start fix some bugs in Windows Update that cause Automatic Updates to either not find updates or take an extremely long time to check for updates. So yes they aren't mandatory to install but are highly recommended to be installed.

    Hi, I have a Sony Vaio desktop with windows vista operating system. I am unable to access certain websites like LinkedIn because the browsers are outdated. It’s making it difficult for me to apply for jobs.
    I wanted to follow the steps above and get the updates before purchasing another desktop or laptop.
    What are the issues that could go wrong with my current desktop while trying to do this update ?

    • @tecadam
      @tecadam  Год назад +3

      Hi there, I think the only problems that could happen are really issues when updating the operating system. If you do all the steps correctly you should be fine, nothing bad should happen. Now the obvious things things like powering off your laptop while Windows Vista is updating will cause system damage. So make sure your laptop is powered on, plugged in while updating and make sure to update in batches of 80 meaning install 80 updates at a time, otherwise if you go higher than that Windows Update could freeze and it will not install all the updates.
      Now for browsers, you can simply look up good browsers for Windows Vista that are still up to date. You could even try to use slightly older browsers like Google Chrome 49 or even FireFox version 52.9.0esr.
      Please let me know if you get Windows Update working and if you find an up to date browser for your laptop.

    Hello. Windows Update started working for me, but when I try to install any update, there pops up a window saying "Windows Modules Installer stopped working and was closed" and update installation freezes, no matter if it's in Windows Update or while shutting down/restarting the system. I even tried manually downloading and installing these updates, but still the same thing happened. Any ideas?

    • @MONSTERAGAR
      @MONSTERAGAR 10 месяцев назад +1

      Nevermind, I fixed it. This was caused by Windows Update Agent 3.0. I've installed some Vista updates before fixing Windows Update and during that I didn't realize I already have WUA updated (7.6 - even newer version). So all that was caused by installing an older version of WUA over the one I already had. What I did to fix it is I recovered the system from an automatically created recovery point from a few days ago and did everything from the video again, just without installing Windows Update Agent 3.0, and everything related to Windows Update works perfectly fine for me now.

    I made back up discs of vista home premium 32bit when it is installed it is sp1 not sp2 as per current system,current system i think has some bugs,it won't defrag unless 3rd party software is used,i can't use disk checker properly at start up,i have ordered an original install disc but it too may be sp1,so i want to be sure i can create a sp2 HDD and clone a clean system to keep vista alive as i have software that won't run on higher systems,pita.

    • @tecadam

      Thanks! It really depends on the users preference, this method is more native because we are bypassing the SHA-2 requirement from Microsoft's Update Servers, but with Legacy Update, it's definitely easier to setup, but it isn't as native because we are using an external tool to get updates which isn't how it was done when Windows Vista could download and install updates from the Windows Update Servers. Either way works, it just depends on the users preference. If you want something more native like how Windows Update was before when you could download and install updates right from Microsoft's Update Servers, then you should use this method. If you want something easier to setup, than I would recommend using Legacy Update. Hope this helps!
