Interesting stuff. These AFVs have been around for a while, but are starting to develop significantly.

RCVs would solve the nearly 100 year problem of Air Cav Armor. No longer would you deal with the problems of the m551 Sheridan which sacrifices armor for weight.

Though of course, it is unlikely that it would bring MBTs to the air game, at least not initially.

now you have the problem of how the fuck are you meant to use it.
option A) have a air command above the combat zone for hours on end if not days (ya ask any pilot to do that shit) which would require half a dozen different aircraft just for one tank. or B) have a local command on the ground. which is a problem because how are you meant to even use that. you need fairly clear service area to operate the drone. the drone itself cant get stuck or leave the service area in which case the enemy just got a top of the line tank, for free.
like the idea of drone tanks has been a thing for decades. the reason no one actually put thought behind it was mutli fold. lack of power for the thing, the inability to operate it (though with wifi this has been somewhat fixed) the fact the drone can be countered insanely easy (by jamming the whole fucking area) and finally the operation cant last long because lack of crew to operate it on mutli day missions.
this idea may be used for a limited role system like city protections and others but no active military would use this in an actual combat role.

@@Thekilleroftanks Why would it need to be line of sight? Deployed & recovery by drones, with small microwave transmitters deployed most anywhere. Or go full orbital relay, operators can be in rear echelons, while resup could be handled the same way.

@@peterk2455 problem is that doing that will cause delay. Even by s few seconds will result in constant loses because fun fact unlike online games the other person is actually reacting in real time.
So you need the signal to be extremely fast. So being within the AO is kinda needed.
As for what you said this doesn't solve any of the problems a drone tank will bring. Mainly the lack of an actual crew being there, extremely high chance of jammers knocking the tank out. And a massively increase of cost to run the damn thing.
Like I said if youre using this as a defense for a base then ya it be a really good tool. But give me a military that would buy multi million dollar defensive drone tanks. That can't be used outside of that single role.

@@Thekilleroftanks Having been in the position of commanding a unit with $100m of dollars worth of equipment I can say that what you are saying has little basis on real ops. Many forces are already using RPVs from thousands of km distance between operator and asset.

I don't know how up to date you are with current Russian stuff but aside from their Ural family of unmanned combat vehicles they are adding option of remote control for the Armata family. So far mostly for testing and lolz (possibly end of life use?) but still. It seems that Russia sees the "land drones" as the future.

After all the robots and drones have done for each other, is that when humans pick up weapons and step-up?

More then a passing resemblance to the Churchill tank, and still a POS!!! In ground combat unlike air or naval there is always the pop up factor, where some soldier's FoF (Friend or Foe) signal is damaged and the vehicle in question engages accordingly. It is just a matter of time, then human maned tanks will come back. It is not a question of developing this tech, but thinking through the development problems has been lost!!
