Well, modern martial arts historians have doubts about the historical accuracy about the legend of Damo (aka Bodidharma) teaching the Shaolin monks martial arts.
India did have an ancient systematic fighting style called kalaripayat which is still practiced today. It is not known, however, if Chinese quan fa (aka kung fu) actually originated from it or whether the two were established independently.
