  • Rolie Polie Olie (Rolie Polie Olie and his family in Latin America) is a Canadian-French television program that aired on Playhouse Disney from October 4, 19981 to April 29, 2007. It is a computer-generated series created by William Joyce and based on the books created by him, being produced by Nelvana Limited for Disney Enterprises. The series focuses on a robotic family in the city of Villa Polie. The characters are Olie, his father, his mother, his sister Zowie and his dog Spot. It is the first fully computer-generated 3D animated TV series aimed at a preschool audience.
The series was produced by Sparx*, Disney Channel and Nelvana for Disney Channel. It began broadcasting from 1998 to 2007, followed by two films that were released in DVD format. These are "The Great Defender of Fun" and "The Search for Babies." The episodes were broadcast in 2006 in the United States on the Disney Channel, in Latin America it was canceled on the same channel after two years of broadcast and in Canada it continues to be broadcast on the Treehouse TV channel. Due to the launch of the Playhouse Disney Channel, it was broadcast again in Latin America.
William Joyce strove to create a style of suburban world in the late 1950s (and 1960s), being influenced by Mickey Mouse cartoons and series such as Leave It to Beaver and The Andy Griffith Show. In the world of Villa Polie, inanimate objects have a life of their own. The series is based on Joyce's childhood, when he perceived everything as having a life of its own. He took that idea but exaggerated it, making it so that even mundane objects like knives and common objects are alive and can move at their own will.
The Polie family lives in a teapot-shaped house, which is alive and possesses senses and, like many objects in Villa Polie, is anthropomorphic (has a human shape).
It was broadcast at 4:30 p.m. m. ET/PT on October 4, 1998 on Disney Channel's Playhouse Disney (United States block).
Rolie Polie Olie won a Gemini Award in 1999 in Canada for "Best Animated Series." The series also won an Emmy Award for "Outstanding Animated Series" in 1999 and 2000. William Joyce won an Emmy for "Outstanding Production Design" for this series.
I do not administer or directly interact with any channels that use the "The Kyoobur Company" byline as of today, other than this one.
