    If you end up replacing with same stove, build a hinged countertop cover over it. Also, I saw on another van build where someone had curved their countertop corner to avoid bumping your hip on the corner edge. It looked really modern as well. Love the kitties!

    Being self-employed, I can very much relate to burnout. What will you be doing to earn a living if you have decided to stop with van builds? I came across your channel several months ago and have enjoyed watching each video of your projects. I am disappointed that there will be no more, but encouraged you will move on to something else that will give you joy in life 😊

    Another great video! Thank you for making these videos 🙏 12 vans in 3 years while also documenting and filming entertaining and high quality content by yourselves is no easy feat. The kitties are so cute I could literally just watch a 30 min video of them playing in the van. RIP the cooktop 😔 that’s a tough one. The new Promaster in black looks so clean. It’s going to look amazing with your aesthetic. Your craftsmenship and attention to detail is really top notch. I love that the parts of the van you don’t see (inside the walls) is in some ways just as beautiful and clean as the outside. I can’t wait to see how this one turns out as you’ve made some really exciting floorplan choices!
    Ps. Thank you for the Chipotle hack. Definitely trying that today with the sofritas lol.

    Your designs for campervans are really top-notch. If it's not too late, perhaps consider creating a storage shelf unit that slides into the washroom/shower when the washroom is not in use. I wish I could share the link to the specific campervan build I saw on youtube who did this, but I can't find it. It was more than a year ago when I saw it. It was a genius design. He built a storage shelf that slid into the shower area and over the toilet. So when the washroom was not in use, he was able to use the entire space as storage. It was literally a big 5'h x 2'depth x 2.5'wide cabinet that slid into the washroom, over the toilet. Making a dedicated shower/washroom takes a lot of space, so this was a fantastic solution to solve this waste of space problem.

What you've contributed to the van-life building community is inspiring, and I am thankful to have learned so much from both of you. Cheers to building your crown jewel, and cheers the adventures ahead!

    Sorry about your cooktop breaking. That seems to be a common problem. I have seen another couple (Richard and Sofie)that recommend an alcohol stove. Origo 3000 Alcohol Stove. I'm interested in finding out more about it and your thoughts. I 'm thinking the pull out cook space you had in one of your vans, but would not have to hook and unhook a small propane bottle. (Plus I have an aversion to discarding all those lil bottles) Just a thought.
    I can certainly understand the weariness you both feel after building so many vans. I can't get excited to start even one, as I know it is a hella-lot-of-work. I'm thinking this summer of building out the back of my truck for "Practice" with insulating, etc, but have already looked into using shoe racks as shelving with those cloth bins for storage. They would take up less room. (See? I'm lazy) Also, I joke with friends that I can't build a box, hehe. The Truck is paid for and the interest rate and prices for new and even used vans is more than I want to get a loan for, even with a trade in.
    Just take your time, stop when you feel burned out and know that you will get it done and then you will get to have a vacation! YAEY! Breathe...You got this!

      This one is tapped into the fuel tank of the vehicle though, so it’s an open diesel flame that gets realllyyyy hot under the glass plate. It takes 5ish minutes to shut off so we’re afraid that if we turned it on and something bad started to happen, we’d have no way to power it down quickly! 😳

    Love this! Can you PLEASE tell me why it’s better to put the reflectix directly on the van panel, and then the thinsulate in the inside? I’m putting mine in this week and I keep going back and forth on what order! Thanks!🖤🖤

    • @scarletandseth
      @scarletandseth  Год назад +1

      The stuff on the panels isn’t reflectix. It is an 1/8 inch foam panel that absorbs sound and creates a thermal break (specifically because it is a dark colored vehicle it probably is overkill for a lighter van). The low-E is more effective after the thinsulate and wasn’t installed in this video.

    • @scarletandseth
      @scarletandseth  Год назад +1

      Yes, this is what we’re doing on our new van! The only thing you have to be careful of with external ports is someone else tampering with them from the outside. Someone poured gasoline into our friend’s water tank because it wasn’t a locking port! She had to gut all her plumbing and run new lines. Such a nightmare.

    what aspects do you find discouraging about building? They all sell like hotcakes, no? is the profit very low? I can definitely see how it is physically demanding though. And it will be kind of crowded in there if you two decide to breed.

    • @scarletandseth
      @scarletandseth  Год назад +3

      The list is long but overall, it’s incredibly strenuous work, both mentally and physically. And we just haven’t found a way to make a livable wage building them in the way that we do as a team of two with such a heavy focus on design/aesthetics. This isn’t even factoring in inflation, the huge amount of overhead, the legal liability involved, and a 30% self-employment tax. We live in a van to keep life simple and this has added a lot of complications to our lives. Grateful for the past few years, but ready to move on!

    My parents smashed their induction top in their kitchen too. Dropped a glass jar from an upper shelf. Fortunately they have homeowners insurance and got to actually use it after decades of paying for it ... And I made them move everything heavy/hard out of the upper shelves around the hob so it doesn't happen again.
    I'd say if you ever replace it with another one you should make a cutting board that has a recess underneath that fits over the glass top. Will give you more prep space as a cutting board but also act as a protector for the induction hob glass when it's not being used.

    • @scarletandseth
      @scarletandseth  Год назад +1

      Yeah, we purposely don’t have anything stored in that upper cabinet aside from electrical components, but the actual face popped off the push pop hinges and Seth wasn’t able to catch it in time. Kind of a freak accident but oh well. Good idea about the cutting board!
