I think it's perfect how lorde opened the album with this song cause her previous albums melodrama and pure heroine both had that dark theme of fame and romanticizing of thrill. with this album she straight up opened with a song saying "I'm not your savior. I can't save you." like she is letting go of the persona with which she's always made her previous music. She's turning a new leaf. She's growing up. I'm so happy for her! 😭
Its amazing how she ties things together. I think my favorite thing she did was ending "pure heroine" with "people are talking, let em talk" and then when you hit replay, the first song opens with "dont you think that it's boring how people talk?"

I love how Lorde manages to actually build delicate, consistent, monumental albums which truly feel like a sensorial journey. This song is the perfect beginning. It feels like a true genesis.
The fact that not many people relate with her music or lyrics of now, that means how much her new era is so authentic and personal, please respect the music someone did, is not easy for a creator to put themselves out there.
bro no one can literally relate to fame and the problems of the music industry and some of the most successful albums are about these super specific concepts no normal human being can directly relate, this is not about how "authentic" you are and how well these feelings are being transmitted
im only saying you can't come up with "my work is personal/conceptual you have to respect it" being a little more extreme: complicated=good - i thought this was such a basic concept to criticism, just like you don't have to be a professional musician to criticize music and be "high standard"; im rly trying my best not to sound like an asshole
I kinda understand people who didn't quite connect with this album as they were used to another type of sound from Lorde, but this is a beautiful album, and Lorde is happier than ever. We must understand that she is trying to evolve as an artist but it is useless if we do not evolve with her. LET'S FEEL THAT SOLAR POWER!!!!!
She's managing to build a specific and cohesive sound, not rushing to release albums every year. That's the type of artistry that speaks volumes to me and I adore her for that. Grateful to live the same era as LORDE. 😭💙
Actually i dont think this song deserves any validation from the media, awards shows, or the like. Lorde is literally writing a whole album about willingly departing from culture that gave her nightmares (from the camera flash). i think it deserves to be great on its own, and not with the validation that lorde is literally writing that she doesnt want. queen already knows who she is, and her kids, as she calles her fans, do too.

This one and oceanic feeling are my favorite non-singles (with this one being my #1 favorite on the album) and I just saw that those are the only two she wrote completely herself without jack. So yesss..just Ella's thought processes!! The lyrics to this one and oceanic feeling are so SO good and the melody in this one in the chorus is so powerful and beautiful too. . And I love how oceanic feeling is so vulnerable and captures her home life.
This is such a perfect intro omg. I love how this song states she’s looking for something else than fame. Her own path. She doesn’t have everything figured out. Such a perfect lead up
Actually i dont think so, i think it deserves to be great on its own, and not with the validation that lorde is literally writing that she doesnt want. queen already knows who she is, and her kids, as she calles her fans, do too.
"now if you're looking for a saviour, well, that's not me, you need someone to take your pain for you? well, that's not me" that goes for the people who want them to be heartbroken again so that she goes back to writing sad stuff !!
I keep coming back to this song. It feels like a Melodrama song and also not. It's a moody piece, heavy on the instruments. But it also grows bolder and brighter. Like a song for the end and the beginning of an era as the track list has shown. I'm reminded of what Tove Jansson said about borders: "The border is longing; when both have fallen in love but still haven't said anything. The border is to be on the way. It is the way that is the most important thing." And I honestly think The Path is one of Lorde's best. I wish it could've gotten a music video so people can truly recognize its beauty.
QUESTION: 4 months ago I discovered Lordes amazing music, and have since then literally listened to her every day/ multiple times a day, no other music, just my favorite songs by her. I think it's mostly done electronically and sometimes she has session musicians. Too bad cuz I think a well experienced band of musicians would make her so much fun. I still have mad love for her music. But then you gotta pay them.
I keep listening and keep learning. Ella is teaching without preaching, telling her story all the while informing mine and yours. We all need someone like this. I am simply grateful.
She's a normal person in pain as well as us, however she's recommending to connect to nature to seek cure instead of looking after media and celebs who are no different.
