So glad that you use this style of music!(accoustic, real instruments) 99% of other videos use mostly electric and/or synth music whose end product are usually hyper compressed and limited. (Usually rock/pop/edm...) Working with acoustic instruments is so much more challenging. Thanks!
30:40, wow is exactly what I was thinking when I heard the LA2A. I bought the Kirchhoff after watching your review and demonstration. A bit late to the game as I only heard of this today, but purchasing this as well. Thanks for creating such informative videos.
Hi Mark ! I remember your Kirchhoff EQ review, and I am very happy to see this Cenozoix review . . . These are very exciting times . . . TBT is setting the bar higher, yet again . . . I instantly opened the raw original of the mix I am on . . . Stripped off 6:03 all plugins, and put the Kirchhoff and Cenozoix everywhere . . . ! . . . & . . . I am Liberating the CPU . . . !?@y@?! . . . Now I can use many of my other favorite plugins much more sparingly and efficiently . . . And my mix is already sounding cleaner and more natural . . . I also.Love that You do Acoustic Jazz , ect . . . The Value of the Kirchhoff and Cenozoix Workstaions for Acoustic music is immense . . . I think of these as DAWs . . . One is an EQ DAW.and the other is a Compessor DAW . . . These are the Jedi Mastering plugins that I have been looking for . . . ! . . . :-) (-;
The API 2500 allows you to choose between feed forward or feedback topologies and the Kiive Audio Distinct Pro have a variable control between FB and FF behavior.
The sound quality is excellent, so good, I could almost overlook the huge flaws in the UI. When snare’s attack is varied from 1mS to 30 mS and not an iota of difference results on the display, I’d prefer no display. Very odd little plug-in with weird display flaws and wildly inconsistent correlation to the hardware I know so well. Not for me.
It's wonderful, but I have yet to coax the Focusrite model into sounding as great on my mix bus as the Slate FG-Red. I'll have to keep playing with it.
Another really useful detailed review! Thanks Mark. Been following your reviews for a while as I love the deep dives you do, so thought I'd say hi from the dim and distant past - i was the drummer in an ill fated location recording you did for us in Cambridge where the roof fell in on top of you and your equipment as a result of the bass sound. We were amazed out how calm you were about it. My guess is that you haven't forgotten that day!! :) All the best, and keep up the informative reviews.
Hey Mark! Great to hear from you! It's been a very long time! That must rank as the most crazy recording session I've ever done. I remember the band being really good, and we were recording away and then suddenly an almighty crash and the ceiling fell in! You probably remember my console was about a foot deep in plaster and wood! Its amazing none of us got hurt! Thankfully my tape machine escaped the worst of it. The console and outboard actually survived fine after being cleaned. I hope you are keeping well mate!
@@heronislandstudio8054 That was also the craziest band I've been in by far! We were so amazed you didn't attack us afterwards :) ... and delighted the boxes of cotton buds succeeded in the end! Astonishing the board and tape machine weren't trashed - we couldn't see for plaster dust. I am happily semi retired with a small studio near Vancouver BC, after the usual up and down music career. (Canada was good to us so we stayed here.) Great to see you still flourishing musically, and keep up the great in depth music tech reviews; you have been responsible for me buying a quite a few plugins now! All the very best.
As far as I know it does emulate the transformers. When you look at the harmonics in plugin doctor they are very complex and the whole pattern changes dynamically depending on the input level. That's what I would expect to see from transformers (but this is based on what I've read, I'm not an electrical engineer).

Great video! Thanks for the walkthrough. I think I've found my new workhorse compressor.

Excellent walkthrough as ever - thanks Mark.
Clear and articulate explanations and objective criticism , but also good subjective opinions, a very helpful video, many thanks 🙏
Red VCA seems to be Chandler Little Devil, not a Focusrite Red. Great plugin and great video!
I would really like to see these tools demonstrated on the master bus instead of the drum bus.

Dist VCA : Distressor?
Had the same thought
Ah! Yes of course it must be! 😃Thanks!
You had it sold to me after a couple of minutes without even hearing samples :-)

Thanks for the video. May I ask which reverb is on the vocals?

man you could do asmr vids with your calming voice!
does it do lookahead properly ..... ie. does it have fir smoothing?
API 2500 the white vintage knob ?
Did you get an answer on the account of saturation?
But it doesn't emulate the transformers in each... right? So the color is not there, or am I incorrect?

You may be thinking of the Kirchhoff EQ... it only models the EQ curves from the models it emulates - not the nonlinear "colour" characteristics
Input gain does nothing?? Many compressors are set entirely by adjustment of input gain. That’s a major oversight.
No it's not. Actually, Fab C2 in the same situation and same basic settings are much better sounding plugin
???
