I just finished reading this book. I got it for a Fathers Day gift. I couldn't put it down. I've followed Al's racing journey since he was young. We are the same age - 60. While I knew most of these stories, incidents or milestones there are several pieces of info that aren't widely known and interesting to read about. The last few chapters that describe how you came to faith are remarkable. I'm so happy for you. Glad that you're happy and moving forward in a positive way. Peace to you!
I'm so glad to see that Al is happier and doing better. I've been a fan for about as long as I can remember. We were even babysat by the same people at Indy when we were kids. I visited Al and Shelly in their motorhome, and his mom Wanda, on countless occasions through the years. It broke my heart to see his struggles, but am equally thankful that he is finding peace and joy in his life again. I wish him nothing but the best.
Long time fan of Al Unser Jr. So happy for you, Al that you are where you are today! I'm halfway through the book and it is amazing! The stories are phenomenal and Al opens up about his difficulties and triumphs! Keep on keeping on Al! There are thousands of people cheering you on!
I grew up in New Mexico when lil Al was starting his Indy career. Loved watching him race. Awesome to see him in a good place with himself..always will be one of my heros
watching al and shelly and the kids, while talking and all the myriad things,,i was a long time race fan, but magic, i was in timing and scoring, fond memories talking to the unsers, often helping gather the kids, as my son was a handful in those days, god speed al, i sent you a hand painted card after your 1994 indy win, you wrote a lovely letter back, LOVE, robert in italy,,! ps, my wife just ordered your book,!
Al Jr. WAS my favorite open wheel driver.i have never been a big fan of that type of race cars. Sorry Al. I loved the Indy cars on the Oval at Charlotte. But Al and Dale Earnhardts respect for each other as well as the action they created On track in the iroc cars was legendary. I'm a stock car fan as well as dirt latemodels. Usually watch the month of may. But I have to say I usually watched alot of the Indy cars when Al Jr. Raced. He is a racer and could drive anything. He'd race a Wal-Mart shopping kart if you looked at him wrong. I just want to say that al Jr. Is a winner in life and has won in his struggles because of the humility he put out there he was able to win and therefore is not ashamed. It is harder to comeback than to go there. His religion and salvation has been the biggest win and has to be the biggest reward. It reminds me of a company I used to work with. The owner was a preacher man. The trucking company was called run to win. It was taken from the Bible I think in the book of 1st or 2nd Corinthians. It's something like in life run life like it's a race.and in your race in life run to win.. Congrats Al Jr. I want to say big Al. Sr. And uncle Bobby were my two next respected drivers. I liked that mean ol aj fight you too. Foyt calm down 14. The andrettis made the unsers better visa versa. Michael Andretti. I know you and Al Jr. Had some bigg shoes to fill. And shined your ownselves. Way to go Al. Jr. Keep on keeping on you are an inspiration.
I was at Spa 24 race a few years ago in Belgium. Several of us in the campground mostly Euro folks posed the question...Best driver you ever saw over 5 years....They all mentioned legends in F1 and Euro drivers. I said ...Al Unser Jr....they all were surprised but they surely understood and agreed. Lil Al was as good driver for a 4 or 5 years span as anyone who ever walked the planet.
I wish SpeedFreaks would get more appreciation for what they have done for racing. What a great crew. It makes me happy that are still around doing what they do so well out of their love for racing. Much love to the SpeedFreaks. I’ve been following you folks from the beginning. You guys, especially the Stat Man are so on point with questions here. Keep on Truck’n
If we develop our "spiritual condition", the mental and physical will follow. To Al Jr, my sincere condolences on the passing of your father. When I first got sober, I couldn't imagine how I would handle the the emotional pain of losing my parents. My spiritual condition enabled me to honor them in a dignified manner when that time came. May God grant you his peace and comfort now and in the days ahead. I hope to see you on the "road to happy destiny" someday Al. Till then, all the best to you! Mark (5/8/1994)
With me it was the other way around. As soon as I realized, God ist Just a fairy tale, my life turned to the better. Believing in God means believing in a big lie, perhaps the biggest conspiracy theory in history You can see it in Al's eyes, bis believe is an addiction, just like his alcoholism. He might have some hights with, but later it will hit him eben harder! I am sorry for him.

I’m in the same boat Al I got my first DUI 2 months ago after not drinking for 5 years. , my best friend died and I hit it again, now I’m paying the piper, one night in jail was enough, food sucks
I’m in the same boat, got myself in some hot water didn’t drink for five year’s , my best friend died and got nailed by the sheriffs her in Valencia California, thee sun was in my eyes and I nailed someone from behind, spent the night in the slammer,it was only three doors 16 oz beer’s but without food for 3 days I subdued, now I’m paying the piper

I put Rocket Rick at the top. But that's just my opinion.
Yes , I Love His story
... Amazing Family and the guilt was only lifted thru CHRIST
Al Unser is the best driver and Al Unser Jr. took over from there.

Incrivel como as Dorgas e o alcool acabam com uma pessoa . Al Unser SR parecia mais novo que o filho em determinada fase da vida.

Al Unser Jr: How come you never raced in F1? I picked you to be able to be the World Champ over there, no doubt in my mind.
He tried a Williams in 1991, but they adjudged him unprofessional for example because of his smoking habits.
@@villy27 Yeah, more likely for smokin' the competition, eh!? 🙂
