Have you read Heart's Blood by Juliet Marillier? It's also a Beauty and the Beast retelling. It's a fantastic book and I know you are a fan of Marillier.
Three new books for my tbr list, thank you! While I can't think of any Beauty and the Beast retellings worth reading and recommending right now, some of my undoubted favourite fairytale retellings are those by Naomi Novik and Katherine Arden, even though their books are more their own fairytales, adapting elements of known fairytales. Novik bases her books on Polish (Uprooted) and Lithuanian (Spinning Silver) fairytale motifs, with Spinning Silver being inspired by Rumpelstiltskin, while Arden's The Bear and the Nightingale is a new fairytale with very strong and prominent elements of Russian folklore, and oh my god they're all so beautifully written, with such a magical atmosphere and world, with fierce heroines and fascinating plots and twists and turns, I cannot recommend these books enough.
I love Beauty, I discovered it when I was a young teenager, and looking back it was very formative for my reading tastes as a whole. You'll love Marillier's retelling, Heart's Blood is the best. Hunted by Megan Spooner is another B&B retelling that's really solid, and out of all the one's I've read it reminds me the most of Beauty, though more action-y. Barefoot on the Wind by Zoe Marriott is also a good one, it takes place in a medieval Asia setting. Naomi Novik and Katherine Arden are my favorite fairytale writers right now, and I think you particularly would like The Bear and the Nightingale!
I'm so excited for Heart's Blood (I have complete faith in Marillier now aha). Thanks for all your other recommendations, I've been meaning to read The Bear and the Nightingale and I'll look the others up ^_^
Bitter Greens by Kate Forsyth is also a great retelling of Repunzel. It's a historical book set in the time of King Louis XIV. It was incredibly well researched and has a female character who was an actual person in history. The Bear and the Nightingale is another favourite of mine as is Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier.
I have Heart of the Fae (thanks to you) and Roses both on my Kindle and hope to get both of them in 2019. I've already mentioned to you I think that Beauty is my favorite BATB retelling😄. I always wondered after I read it if some of the creators of the Disney film had read this book and were inspired by it because the 2 have such similar feels and things in common which is probably why I loved this book so much. Another I quite enjoyed is Subtle Beauty by Ann Hunter. Excellent video as always Jean 😃
I've been wanting to ready Beauty by Robin McKinley, thank you for reminding me of it! I've never read any beauty and the beast retellings, which is strange because it is one of my favourite disney films. I need to fix that!
I just finished Robin McKinley’s retelling of Sleeping Beauty called Spindle’s End and I really enjoyed that. I can’t wait to read Beauty in the future.
I just finished reading A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas which is also a Beauty and the Beast retelling. I really enjoyed it, though I was afraid to read it at first because of the hype surrounding it but it's actually very good. 😀
Retellings are great which ever fairytale they adapt! I particularly love the possibilities with Beauty and the Beast however and it seems to be one of the most popular ones. I've never read a Snow White retelling for example, nor a Sleeping Beauty one.
What is the Disney fairytale that you go back to time and time again? Mine was the little mermaid, but is now a tie between Tangled and the Princess and the Frog 🐸
There's a book I recently read that took me by surprise. It's a Cinderella retelling called Phoenix & Ashes by Mercedes Lackey. Words that could describe the story would be: dark, atmospheric, magic, World War 1. I'd love to hear your thoughts if you've read it.

Heart's Blood is sooo good!
Not yet but it is next on my list!
Heart's Blood was my first Marillier and I LOVE IT!
I've been meaning to read all three of these books for years! They all sound like gorgeous retellings of Beauty and the Beast.

I can recommend As Old as Time by Lis Braswell. She has done a few Disney twisted tales and all of them are really good
I love retellings. And if they are beauty and the beast I usually love them even more. I never heard of these 3 books. They will go om my tbr!!
YES omg I needed this video!! 💕💕
My favorite one is Beastly by Alex Finn! One of my most reread books
Thank you for the shoutout Jean - I'm very behind on my book tube watching so I've only just seen this :). I need to read Heart of the Fae! x
