Do *you* use an eGPU, what's your favorite setup? Notes: you only need AMD Adrenaline installed not AYASPACE unless you want RGB to sync to the handheld. Magically on the og Claw you need to install nothing 😆 Russ reminded me about using video out to get even more performance out of it. Basically, that if you're going to play directly on a device, you're going to get degraded performance. That's because the signal has to go from the game to the eGPU, then back to the screen through the same cable. Additionally, you saturate the connection further by running games off the m.2 ssd inside, but it can work well for rom storage or other use. So, using the handheld with an external display should unlock a lot of extra performance we're leaving on the table here. I might make a follow-up vid with Oculink once my compatible Mini PC shows up, and then also try this video out method to shoot for 120 FPS and beyond! Lastly, I said the storage was not showing up on the Claw, but that was on the Claw 7 AI+, worked flawless on the original 155H Claw.
Its nice to see you testing it with so many devices. This is probably something people want to see most, if it works with their particular handheld. Not a use case for me but the populartiy of these things has apparently grown alot. I have a x1pro wifh occulink here would be fun to tinker with.

The problem with egpus like this is most people dont understand why they are so expensive and compare to it Just a Desktop Gpu. If you built your own EGPU with a presentable enclosure with power (no usb ports, no m.2 drive) its about $500 with a comparable Graphics card inside. I built one with a 4060 and i use it all the time and it cost me about $500 BUT the only place that sells gpu enclosures with a included PSU for cheap is on chinese markets like Aliexpress and Superbuy. I also built one myself for cheap -$300 ish for gpu -$50 old oem psu -$35 for oculink pcb board and cable -$10 hard plastic for it all to be attached to. (No Usb ports, no m.2 slot) And it looks like a mad open test bench The only way you get hands on a cheap egpu is used one of these. But brand new $600 isnt that crazy for the portability, usb ports, m.2 drive ease of use and setups unlike home made enclosures Welcome to a niche market lol
Look I'm a bit off Ayaneo after my experience with the Pocket Evo, just going to give anything from them a break for a solid year or two. When they improve quality, especially plastics, I'll reconsider them. Not sure on the value, it performs similarly to a desktop 4060 apparently which can be had for about $300, add on something like a Minisforum DEG1 which is around $120, $420 vs $600 for this, that's either $120 for portability, or for the similar/same money upgrade to a 7700XT in this configuration and gain about +50% performance.
@@conza1989 the dock and storage addition is a big draw for me, otherwise agreed, you can make one for cheaper, and on the plastics, that has been very frustrating.
@@retrohandhelds i don't get impressed by the additional storage because i can store only things i don't want in handheld mode on it... i mean, ok, if there is some game that does not work at all in handheld mode, but it would work fine with the eGPU, then yeah, i would install in on that drive. but as long as it runs ok with the internal gpu i would always be like "what if i want to play it in handheld mode as well, even if it would be on low settings"... and there is no point in storing movies or things like that, because the moment you unplug the actual pc from it, you have no access to them. so again i would either store them on the handheld or in a media server that wont stop if i take the handheld in the toilet or something :D
Have you run into any AMD driver compatibility issues? I've seen other videos stating that because the iGPU is also AMD that you may have to do some driver management using Adrenaline when switching between docked/undocked. Sounds like that would be a pain if that's the case
I think it's a little overpriced for what you get, but I would probably try this out if I could get it from Best Buy's website and be able to return it if it didn't live up to expectations. Sounds like you can basically turn your old Claw into a gaming laptop-class desktop system, which would be neat.
Isnt this device a little old?? I swore these been up for sale for a bit...im guessing these cant be upgraded with a different gpu it only seems to have the portable factor going for it thought about one of these for my setup but ill just settle BC this device is really overpriced.
Ah since November I believe. Not many videos out yet surprisingly. I just asked them to send it over because it intrigued me. I've always avoided eGPU's, and now i'm a fan of the tech.
I'm not interested in egpus at all especially ones that have the Ayaneo tax tacked on but I still watch cause I'm a romantic and dazzling kind of guy myself 😂

My perfect E-GPU would be one that is shaped like a switch dock that the handheld slots into

I want them to do a 7800M version. I think it is just so beautiful. I'd buy it instantly if the OneXGPU 2 wasn't the superior option.
I still say, for better or worse, it looks like an oversized Pokedex.
spot on
