    • @DogNamedNicolas
      @DogNamedNicolas 3 года назад +1

      On S6 in M mode at redline, the SMG 3 makes DCT boring. It just bangs the car into the next gear and it’s pretty addicting. You don’t get this experience from a DCT.

    • @CentTxLiving
      @CentTxLiving  3 года назад

      You're right about that, the dct is a faster shifting trans, but that would detract from the car I believe. These car are extremely engaging, and visceral. You feel what it's doing and what it's about to do and the raw experience you get from just driving it is amazing. These cars are hoodlums, just begging you to go faster, rev harder and brake deeper. It takes a good amount of control to drive it with civility. 😁

    • @CentTxLiving
      @CentTxLiving  2 года назад +1

      They (some enthusiasts) say it is, but I'm keeping an eye on the oil samples. But, the lci cars already have the updated oil sprayers for the pistons, and all the other lci updates. If that one only has 50k, I'd make sure it has a good history and a clean ppi, if those are good snatch it up. 😁

      Ecuwerx tune stage 2
      Bmc filters with charcoal delete
      Afe air scoops
      AIT relocation
      Headers gutted, secondaries removed, supersprint x pipe
      Secondary 02s deleted
      Cold start/ secondary air delete
      H&R springs
      Dinan negative camber plates
      20mm spacers front, 15mm on rear
      Brembo big brake kit front and rear
      I'm sure there's a thing or two I don't remember. It's basically moderately modified and a bit quicker than stock.

    Have you replaced the rod bearings? Any issues with the 2010 model? What’s your mileage?

    • @CentTxLiving
      @CentTxLiving  3 года назад +1

      I'm at 93,000 miles and I keep a close eye on the oil analysis reports from each oil change at 5k. I think in the near future [probably next summer], I will have them done- just for peace of mind. I have heard on some forums that the connecting rod issue was corrected for my2010, but I think I'll still replace them just in case, the throttle actuators as well. An ounce of caution goes a long way with these cars. Thanks for the comment.

      @@CentTxLiving i have excat car mine is 2010 e60 m5 as well and i had to replace the whole engine lucky i had the extended warranty so the warranty they actually found me an engine with really low milage it was only 58.000mls. It was all because of the rod bearings issue the bearings actually had fail on me and this is because of the previous owner he never really toke care of them. And i ended up with replacing the whole engine because rod bearings had fail so bad that it destroyed the crankshaft. Anyways now tje car is in good hands lol. Oh and I recommend you to ise 5W50 RedLine oil this is the best oil for this kind of cars trust me.

    • @CentTxLiving
      @CentTxLiving  3 года назад

      Thanks for the tip! The last thing I want is an engine replacement. I have been using liqui moly 10w-60, with oil changes every 5k miles. I'll research the oil you recommend, thanks again.

      @@CentTxLiving how about the clutch my friend? Still on the original clutch? Amazing how the clutch is so sturdy on these cars. I’m at 58k miles and still on the original bearings and clutch. About to change the transmission and differential fluid. I’ll probably do the bearings in the summer using VAC Motorsport bearings and ARP bolts. Will change the high pressure oil line and engine mount as well. Maybe do the spark plugs if the shop gives me a decent price or I’ll just change them myself. About $2-3k in maintenance on these cars every couple years will make the high-revving S85 V10 last a lifetime.
      By the way, the 2010 model’s oil analysis can’t be trusted cause BMW changed the bearing material from copper so it’s not 100% accurate of the condition of the bearings. But as long as you heat up the oil to 210F before redlining it, you should be okay. However, you’re lucky as the S85 king, Troy Jeup, lives in Michigan and he does stroker rebuilds for our M5s.
      Michelin PS4s on these M5s are a dream. They corner like they’re on rails. Especially once the tires heat up.

    • @CentTxLiving
      @CentTxLiving  3 года назад +1

      I'm on the original clutch as well, and your right it is amazing how sturdy these clutches are, even with increased horsepower. During next summer I plan on changing the connecting rod bearings, Vanos line, and have a look at the valve cover seals. Also, I need to replace the throttle actuators, and probably replace the thermostat while I have the intake disassembled.
      I like to use the oil analysys checks just to identify changes in the oil as the mileage increases, instead of just looking at copper content. I change my oil every 5000 miles, and a use Liqui Molly 10w60 oil, so far that has worked pretty well for my engine. But, I still want to change the connecting rod bearings to avoid any failures. You're right about properly heating the engine oil, I have a very rigid approach to completely warming the car up before I get anywhere near the red line. It's a habit I learned from my e34 M5 years ago. If I come to a point where the engine needs to be rebuilt, then I will definitely try the Troy Jeup stroker engine rebuild.
      For tires I'm using the continental extreme contact, they seem to work really well with our sometimes unpredictable summer weather.
      I really appreciate the comment, and the discussion about these wonderful cars. I truly intend to keep this car and enjoy it to its fullest for a very long time, and I wish you the same.
      Cheers
