- "Another well-known and much-loved tune from Workingman's Dead, Casey Jones was played very sporadically after 1974, until it was finally retired on 3/27/93 in Albany, NY. This performance from the Closing Of Winterland was the opening song of the encore, which they followed by Johnny B. Goode and We Bid You Goodnight before sending people out with breakfast into 1979." - David Lemieux

Jerry smiling during the ending section is just perfect
Lange Good to see a thin Garcia 😊
I'm going to get lightning bolts through my blue and red I think it would look cool
The whole time!
Nice to see Bobby get a few bars to solo. Tasteful slide too. Jerry's solo is so delicate and pretty. What a master.
Me & my girlfriend, our puppy & my friend James Brown hitchhiked around following the dead in my youth. For money we would by bottles of alcohol & then sell shots at the shows. It was one of the greatest times in my life
Which era?
We're you ever in Richfield Ohio?
I might have got a shot from you!
✌️
I'd prefer white owsley 🤣
Would love to hear some stories about your travels!
@@catmandoo5255 I think he meant to say they bought sheets and sold hits....
Wish these times were back and we could still go to concerts in this time

Driving over Hoosier Pass in Colorado circa '72-73 listening to this song in a snow storm in a old Chevy AD truck on an 8 track..........man I had a ball. memories that have fueled me for darn close to fifty freakin years!
I was just thinking about this the other day, how rare it was for the boys to play this hit. Thanks for posting!
I love Greatful Dead this is one of my favorite songs Jerry Garcia is missed by so many ❤
I am always amazed at how it speeds up slowly at first and then faster and faster. Great song, great video.

I used to have these shows on VCR tape and the highlight for me or at least one of them was the Blues Brother's set before the show.
That was the last show at the iconic Winter Land best new years eve party been too
Keep driving Casey Jones !
Great time! Wish I was born earlier.
If you don’t love the Grateful Dead, you just don’t know the grateful dead yet.
Damn I miss these Shows
That notion just crossed my mind
BOO!, LIAM! Yer on candid camera!!! Life doesn't give you more than you can handle, said Casey Jones while drivin' that train. They used to play this, getting louder and louder and faster and faster until it was at a full gallop. ⛩
All I can do is smile, smile, smile 🤓😄😂
Too bad America doesn't produce music like this anymore!
I'm sure Jerry has been driving that train more than once, I can't lie I've been a ticket holder on that train before!
Why you lying though

I thought my dad would comment on these lyrics when he read them in a review of a 72 gig I went to, but he said nothing. Later I found he’d been driving that ol’ train in WW2!
one of my favorite dead songs
Bravo!!!
My CD copy of this show is scratched through this song, so this is perfect.
Classic
GREAT VERSION. They didn't do this a lot live, did they? The first Dead tune I actually REMEMBER hearing. My Dad had Workingman's Dead on Vinyl. IT WAS THE 80's and even as an 8 or 9 year old I was curious about COCAINE. Not bad IN MODERATION btw... Watch your speed...
A Tolman That’s how I first heard this song. I was about 9 and my dad had it on vinyl, too.
@@nancycox7061 nice
Quarter to 10 you know he's driving again.... There's coke in a nutshell, leaves out the station about a quarter to nine and a quarter to 10 he's driving again... Every 45 minutes to an hour until there's no more... What a waste of time!

This song always reminds me of so many things. But, the first one is always the movie "Vanishing Point" wish someone would make a remake!
❤️
Special.
I worked at an animal shelter I named the dogs. We had a chow mix come in I named him Casey Jones. My dad had a couple walked in and I knew they were going to pick him at me when they took him home. Ozone on a cigarette break and I saw them come out with him I'm so happy. I told him I knew you were going to take him just because of his name. He was absolutely gorgeous though
Simply amazing!! I may be biased because The Dead are my all time go to tunes...but nobody can flow as smoothly as Jerome and Robert...a duo from Heaven itself...btw, I thought this was hilarious, fast forward to 3mins and 35seconds...right at 3:38 good ole Bobby takes his ring off and offers it to another woman in crowd...too funny 🤣...epic move brother!
He takes the slide off his finger and puts it on the holder on his mic stand
no he doesnt....it's a slide-
THIS is the GRATEFUL DEAD. No substitutions.
I was train driver for the local zoo. Just a silly 1/3 scale of a real steam engine. But you gotta believe i sang this song in my head while I did my speech.... I even got called Casey a few times. (Tie dye shirt and train overalls)
Wow look at the Jerry-Mickey exchange at 2:45. Sooo f'ing rad!!
There wil) never ever be a band of this caliber and there legion if fans far and wide they are musical icons thank you DEAD
In my " train to grinder switch - CDB" playlist it is followed by Brad Paisley's life's railway to heaven then Sailor by Hatchet then this. I play the list while walking but hope this keeps me from overdoing

The real Casey Jones was a true hero in every sense with balls of steel. That man had balls bigger than Trump’s even and should be on money. Talk about self-sacrifice.
Hey Donna, my Grandma called and wants her Mumu back, she needs it for her Hawaiian vacation.
I can't blame the way she looks but her voice. Someone lied.
Lesh’s smooth tone and style is silky
A train, but instead of turning wheels, it turns a turbojet, and flies
2:30
Copped downtown
From crosstown to sundown
Saw a stop sign
In my mind I tripped
My brains were lit
On Water
I thought your word was absurd
I heard through the grape vine
I relate on 9 vision
Indecision was the prison I was in
The stop sign said go
So I went with the flow
I knew I had to roll
I sold a folded map
In Hollywood sapped of all that’s good
Capped the roll through the stroll
Out of control
A soldier sold his soul
For pure Gold to mold in
The roll then plus on Acid LSD
The show they jammed
I had a command economy planned
I grabbed some beach sand
Knowing life was like the dice that roll
I hold a precious stone
WIth the morning come the storm and
A cup of coffee
I almost forgot my Ganja Weed
I rolled one up and flipped a sack of shrooms
I turned into the master dragon on cocaine
I had to explain to a kid that the rich go to hell
So I vandalized property
I stop and pick the lock enter the center on adventure
I hit up the hamburgers at McDonald’s
I full throttle a bottle swiggin’ rot gut on the women
In prison I had the vision to fix this thing
I swing on a chain with my brain in fire and flame
Murder maintain
I blame the game for aim of the industrial complex
My bomb effects yo momma’s sets
I wrong to X out the mark the spark a fight
I light up on the big oil
Poison the soil all Royal
I sure do puke when I eat a fruit that’s been sprayed
I grow Ganja sit in the shade and bomb bombers
I light up so much curve a word about it?
I shouted out loud did the route for bid and slid
Through the Wu into the Cream
Next dream
In a haze for days
My shop is lit up
But I don’t have the drugs!
Thugs get murdered plugs all server is love
Return the dub sack
Murder in the back of the act to relax
Flack spit out the dragon to hang ten surfing
Working the clean T-shirt thing
I burst bring a sting in the swing off the ringer
I’m an R&B Singer a dead ringer
Night time winger
Give you the finger
I have it cling here
To facts servin’ backs
My max is steady hit up ready to truck and Chevy
The soldiers Golden doors with the core for Wars
I tore into the crew with the Gong Fu
Don’t overuse violence it is base and serves a taste for blood
All of this just to scrub a brain clean
All the trippers know what I mean
Took a brain scan and
Released the Golden Fleece of the Greece
Ancient Greeks were meek
They couldn’t take a seat
They suffered defeat
My brain scan was inspired by Greece and
I axle grease relax the piece
Murder was each crew thug stew
Gangster grew on a brain scan
Suffer suntan on the Islands and
I smoke Sativa now
Drive a Beamer how I gleam Platinum Diamond encrusted time again
This light does bend
Tremendous defensive tactic array on rap display
I service any way a fool play
We need trip and drugs
Thugs get in the way
On Christian display is an array of violent measures
Treasures scored in the War Torn
Israelite born of scorn
Washed up on the shore and
It’s six in the morning
Damn!
I need another brain scan
For our Veterans
All steps you stay centered in
The battle
It takes a lot to ride the shotgun position on the stage coach
A lot of people boast about killing
But are they willing to die?
Don’t even try to fly the friendly skies with enemies on the rise you cry
Shake, freak, skate, bleep out the cuss words
It’s absurd to think you could drink a drink and sink in the thing
The wing takes practice
Years of blood to match this
Your attack hits the heart of the chart
Veterans seen it
Believe it
Don’t you sweat a Vet
With your death
Letter to a friend recommend you do some contact fighting with your kid
You think it’s exciting to fight?
You get winded down tight
I like a light within the insight
I right a writer who take flight here
I stop steer clear of the type to steer
You into the battle begin
I fully expect the difference is in the final rinse
The discipline of the martial kin
Brother and Sister to the end
I’m proud to be American
All souls go to Heaven
You think you better than the Hell you Dwell until
Practice lights you up like a matchstick
Shine bright like the Sun
You got a gun!
You #1
You have fun with the under the underdone
You fools wax won?
I don’t like to stung but become
A service in practice to matchlessly
Attack the speed is run?
I one hundred percent spent
On the to the cent penniless
I ready since the deadly master snatch the life
I busted twice
Rolled the dice
Got iced up
To the slice cut it nice but
I don’t like tricks
Master this!
You lack the crisp snap
Fully loaded gats
And blades down with hats and shades
Soldiers throw hand grenades
Made in the shade
Till you laid out flat
How you like that?
Service fat cat to swerve this
You get returned hits
Burn you to bits
You better quit and practice
Your martial art
To reach a max of the sickness
You go the distance then
bruv that's fire
Dear God,
We'll give you Justin Bieber if you give us back Jerry Garcia
Amen
