This was a very time-consuming video. I was working on it for days. I hope you enjoy it! :)
By the way, sorry for the mistake. The HD 4890 is a DX10 GPU, not DX9.
Nicolas11x12 English love this! These are super fun builds. Would be great to see how it runs with matched sticks of RAM, and then OC the RAM and CPU! :)
Nicolas how is your comment stated 16 hours ago this video is 53 minutes ago??????
Magic. ;)
If this board support any 3/4 core phenom II you would have quite nice gaming for cheap .
Magic time traveling abilities to post comments?! OMG Please go back in time to get a BNIB OG Phenom!!! :D
Srsly though, would love to see this thing OC’d with an AIO along with some solid Corsair DDR2 1000MHz RAM
Haha insane! Im writing this on Athlon 64 X2 4000+ and playing some games like LoL and CS 1.6. Only SAD REACTIONS please -,-
MatiTz this is so sad can we get 50,000 likes please
Yeah, let's get this man 50,000 likes. Only 49,996 more to go! :D
Not everyone has the money and or desire to upgrade to modern parts. Do your thing and enjoy what you got!
MatiTz
I have AMD Athlon II X2 215 and running roblox is hard
CS 1.6 is OG man. nothing to be ashamed of.. People still play the game
Honestly this is such a cool and nostalgic build! Please make more type of videos like this !!
I still using AMD Phenom X3 8650 on ABIT AX78 AM2, then 7 years years a go i retired this system as my primary PC.
I'm still using this old PC only for testing, recovery or repairing. Still kicking ass and 100% working after more than 10 years with me.
As I remember, 3 times I'm washing this mainboard (ABIT AX78) with water and soap, and it's still working until now, just hard to die. Lol!
Watching this on my old Athlon 64 x2 5800+. Ahh yes they do still work and work well.
I have a similar CPU in one of my computer's the setup is very meager though in a very large custom case or so it looks like it it has no graphics card no sound card but does have sound drivers built in SATA hard drive and disk drive and Windows XP still a very functional Athlon 64 X2
@@silasmcgee3647 athlon 64 x2 will run windows 10 with ease
as long as you have at least 2 gigs of ram 4 will be ideal
@@si4632 well the Foxconn motherboard that's in it only has two available dimm slots since the other two haven't been soldered or installed so to get 4 gigs of RAM I would need two 2 Gig sticks
@QuestionableCube My x2 4800+ ran miles around the p4 i upgraded from.
Now there is a face to the voice :) awesome video as always.
Haha! Thanks, Brian! :)
With the price of ddr4.... this build is pretty much a sane option
Hahahaha! :D
Damienov not amd
Everybody and their brother complaining about the price of ram. What is it, 100-200 dollars above normal? How about not being so poor? Now when the price of gpus were almost double what they are now, that is something to complain about.
if only that amount of money is not a full month salary for some. You need to get your head out of your ass and learn that Murica is not the only country in the world and currency/cost of live is different on other countries.
You want me to send you a few rubles so you can buy some food?
Just Seen this Video in my recommend, and i want to say: THANK YOU! for all the Years of information. You really got my PC knowlage started and helped me soo much.
Wow, that's one hell of a motivational comment. Thank you for your kind words. I'm very happy I could help you out with my videos.
2:37 I'm still using that model monitor. It isn't bad for gaming at all. Planning to buy a 1080p monitor for sure :D
Thanks for your effort to make this vid! I used to run almost the same specs for 6 years straight and it always served me well. I'm thinking of building a similiar system in the future to enjoy one more time how it was to run games and apps on this system.
Pmsl im loving all these old pc builds you guyz are all so far behind ive never got rid of 1 pc i still have an amd k62 build a cyrix m2 and a duron / athlon 64 build and an athlon x2 and A8 im the book of knowledge when it comes to old pcs but then im old lol
Thats a beautiful looking case. Nice video Nick!
Indeed, thank you very much! :)
I dig it man! Got one of these systems from a friend of mine. He had it lying around and asked me if I wanted it. I ended up scrapping it, but I was still fairly impressed with how much performance it could muster! Great video! And you know? I bet a lot of that stutter would have went away if only it was multi-threaded! It's cool to see how far we've come in 13 years. But it's also impressive how LITTLE we've progressed at the same time!
I'm just staring at the boxes in the background thinking I wish I had that stuff
That was very enjoyable thanks! Subbed :D
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Welcome aboard! :D
In 2012 i have built my first gaming pc...athlon 64 3500+ 4gb ddr2 800,hd 5770...i played all games you showed there and after playing gta 4 i upgraded to 64 x2 4600+ and it played everything flawlessly...i was using it till 2015...Good old athlons
Using modern parts in an older build kind of takes the nostalgia out of it for me. But there is no reason to dislike! This was actually a lot better than I thought. Kind of cool to think of we had high end cases like this in the mid 2000s
This is the first video I've ever watched on your channel, and I would like to say that I will definitely be watching more when I have the time to. Great video!! These old dual-core Athlon 64's are the bomb for their age. By the way, you should give yourself more credit for your cable management, it was stellar! There were no cables in sight besides where they plugged into the motherboard.
Very, very cool video! I dont know why you have "only" 60k subscribers, you deserve more. I wish with all my hearth that you reach great goals! Keep it doing :D
Bohy11 Wow, thank you so much for your heartwarming words! This means more to me than you might think. :)
i still have my core 2 quad q6600 back from 2007 in my ryzen box.
Vaphyr tape mod that thing and see how well it runs
Vaphyr
I have a pc from 2007 too
Cool looking CPU Heatsink/Fan combo.
Thank you for sharing. I still have a working 3700+ socket 939 and a another non assembled 3200+. Athlons gave me years of fun. Forever grateful to AMD
It’s nice to reuse old parts that still work well in different environments to use as a HTPC or retro gaming PC, especially if you can find a cool ITX board and case.
Steam still supports XP as well which is perfect for older games that require annoying fixes on Windows 10.
Steam will be dropping support for XP and Vista at the end of the year, unfortunately.
Fokker TISM Yes that is a shame. I guess I would dual boot Windows 7 32bit if I had an old Pentium 4 or Core 2 setup still and get the other games off gog or by disc.
Been using Ahthlon 64x2 4400 with WinXP until last week and now been replaced by Athlon 200GE, it served me well for the past 10 years, now RIP.
Love this old stuff!
Nice case and fan.
I got the x2 240 and these things are indestructible. Played uncharted 4 on ultra with a gtx 960 and kept a solid 60 fps
Cool! I currently use and Athlon x4 860k, paired with my 1050ti and 8 gigs of 1600mhz ddr3 i can achieve good performance on triple a titles. Not bad for aging hardware
Yeah mine still works great and stable at 4.5ghz
860k at 4.5? Wow
Maybe im just a garbage overclocker then Lol
Grizz get a good cooler I use a arctic freezer 13 2 fans pulling in in from the front 2 exhaust fans in top and 1 in the back. I just use mine for video editing and it's still fine I have even streamed with it as obs can use the gpu to reduce cpu load. With the os on a ssd it boots up in 11 seconds.
Richard Perryman-Smalley ok, does it work for fm2+ boards? Or do i have to research and whats the price
Nice work
Im still playing on a amd phenom X2 with amd radeon 6700 hd series xd
overclock that old beast and see how much fps you gain.
3dkiller , that was overclocked. The FSB was clocked to 215 from 200 base. So +7.5% overclock.
Though, the HT link speed may have some room to go faster, mine did in the day...
i ran mine at 2.4 ghz no problem with stock cooler sooo
This is the brisbane 65w. You can reach 3.1-3ghz easily on air. Overclocking the bus speed was good but modern videocard doesnt like it
Knowing how old pentiums like the Pentium 4 and some amd's are practically heat furnaces overclocking would definitely require a better cooler and heatsink unless you want your computer to go into nuclear meltdown
this cpu's overclock pretty well, i had an 4200+ running @ 292fsb and 11x multiplyer on stock cooling!
your video fps is so smooth, it cured my cancer.
LOL. Awesome comment. :D
AMD 6400+ here. Please for the love of the Silicon God, put matching ram modules and use this system in DUAL channel mode. 5 gigs = odd amount = SINGLE channel only. Of course you already know this, so please as soon as you can get 8 gigs of value kingston ram and unleash the full potential of that beauty.
Unfortunately the Silicon God hasn't blessed me with the matching DDR2 memory I'd need. ;)
They soon will, I'm sure of it. You just have to make the proper offering. Burn that 1 gig module in your back yard and the Silicon God will provide. (Don't breath it in though) :D
PS: On a serious note, if you take out 1 gig and run it with 4 gigs in dual channel, put a value ssd and assign maybe 8 gigs (or even 16 why not) of swap file only on that drive, I'm guessing that system will perform much better.
For the most part it would not have to cache to disk at all, but with 1 gig of video memory, let it cache what it needs to the ssd and that machine will fly.
The fifth gig of ram is for the most part just sitting there, if your average load would come anywhere near past the 4 gig mark, the pc would be unusable.
Just a fixed 16 gigs of swap file only to an ssd + 4 gigs in dual channel and let it fly
Aaron Swartz Are we all Probably the funniest comment I've read in a while! :D
Oh and, do you by any chance have any experience on how the correct memory will be provided after the right offering? Will it be coming from above, packaged? I'm a little worried it could hit my head. Those modules can be pretty sharp after all... ;)
Oh no no, you have to wear head protection, the modules will come from the clouds above, so please protect your eyes at all times. But be sure to raise both your hands to the sky and sing the heavenly mantra:
"hhhooooooo dear God of Silicon you beatiful bastard, please graaaant me just 4 gigs of VALUE ram, because I'm just a humble servant, so I can make an update to one of my videos, and use the machine the way it's supposed to be. oohhh dear God, I know I've committed a capital sin installing 5 gigs, please have mercy on my soul... ooooommmm"
And bam! Look out, because the brand new ram modules may get stuck in your skull, they will be descending upon you at very high speed.
(That's how I got mines anyway). And the Silicon God graced me with 8 gigs in 2007 that I'm still using to this day, and I didn't get hurt. And many hours of gaming were played, in His name, AMEN.
Thank you for your advice and expertise! You seem to be a really knowledgeable when it comes to pleasing the Silicon God(s).
Hopefully the sin of Single-Channel 5GB RAM I committed can be forgiven.
Hmm... looks like I'll have to get some body armor first to protect myself from the impact. ;)
that's such a cool cpu cooler !!!
Love. your videos
just serve amazing and fun and educational.
Thank you, that means a lot to me!
awesome video! thx
Thank you! :D
I have a high end laptop, yet, my desktop is an Athlon quad with 16 gig. A rock since 2007.
which program are you using to measure all those data? i'd rreally like to have it too.
Nice video, i subscribed!
How is the performance in the games Overwatch and Minecraft, a friend of mine has a PC with this specs but he uses a very old GPU, he wants to upgrade it to GTX 750
Very nice effort to put a "vintage" system together. The Athlon still rocks - it was a CPU from a time where AMD had the stronger line-up than Intel.
When I saw the huge cooler I was hoping you'd oc it. I could oc my Athlon 64 (4600+) from 2.4 to 2.9GHz. I had it paired to a HD 7870 and the higher clock made a difference.
New subscriber! great vid btw!
Thank you very much! ;)
I use to game on that cpu back in the day along with a Radeon hd 6570. Didn’t have much money and it did perfect for the games I was playing, even bf3.
i built my first pc with this exact cpu 2 gigs of adata extreme 800 ddr2 and ati 1950xt 256 ddr3 :D . This brings back nice memories .
I have 2 AMD PCs one with an AMD Second Generation Opteron 1210 hp proliant ml115 g1 which can have a video card in also an amd x4 620 but I don't use the PCs now though they run win 10 fine.
Serious question, would this be good for a stream pc? Like not to be used to stream and game at the same time, just for streaming.
2019 still run on AMD Athlon X2 4450e with ssd , long live my old brave
I have to..what maximal vga card withbthis provie?
Did you try to overclock your CPU to see if you get any noticeable increase in FPS? I recently put together a XP 3800+ (socket 939) o/c to 2.2Ghz which makes it an XP 4200+ then. I couldn't overclock mine any further as it refused to boot and/or got a black screen. Or maybe it was the 4gb of DDR RAM?
Is There Atlhon x2 Brisbane soldier instead of glued? I saw on the Internet some who were soldiers, and when I opened it it broke. For delid
Although you time_lapsed the presentation, i was able to follow. And while I'm not a gamer this is precisely the type of system I'd like to build since i do other things that are graphics intensive Thank you for sharing
Great video man!!!! ;) but... what's the soundtrack !?, name of music please! ;)
I just built a Windows XP Machine with that CPU. I have it in an actual period case. I'm loving it.
I am still using an Athlon processor on a daily basis and it runs perfect to date 😁 but it is a Athlon II X4 760K... I have never had problems with it running on 4.2 Ghz and still today almost any game runs flawlessly.
I remember having an Athlon X2 4400+ (Socket 939) back then, and it really kicked Intel's ass, beating the $1000 Pentium D 840 Extreme in just about everything, especially when overclocked to ~3 GHz. I could've gotten the 100 MHz faster AM2 version, but DDR2 RAM was slow and very expensive at that time, and I didn't want to change the motherboard.
What MB did U have? I had Asrock 939 Dual SATA-II and it rocked the world!
manaphylv100
i still have one running, and its usually cooler than my gpu when at 2400mhz stock (windforce gtx 780ti )
i have a msi platinum sli board
I had an Athlon x2 4200 on an Asus A8n-SLI deluxe. I was dumb enough to get a low end pentium D, don't remeber the skew but it was 2.8Ghz. Totally not worth it. I ran that Pentium D for a couple years while I saved up for the Athlon x2. Been buying AMD ever since.
I kinda regret getting the FX-8350 instead of going with sandy bridge or ivy bride, but such is life. My Ryzen r7 1700 is kicking ass right now so it's all worked out =)
jaipal chauhan super bottleneck
Gosh that's awesome I'm using this same cpu, but ain't got a graphics card rip.
From what I see, this utilizes 5GB single channel ram setup. How different would the performance be with 8GB dual channel setup?
Can i haz TX850 to replace my 11 year old CM Silent 600 ?
I also have an Athlon 3800+ in another pc with original psu was thinking of putting in 7730 or 7750
Owned an X2 4800 myself and it survived Skyrim alas my poor Socket 939 was cursed with the Liquid Capacitors and that was not cool
I still use my Opteron 180 daily and I have no complaints.
Nicholas, question, howcome your voice in this video sounds completely different to the vids of the last 4 odd years, and sounds like your really old video's voice overs...
Haha, interesting observation. To be honest, I have no idea. But you noticing that, goes to show that you've been watching my videos for a very long time now.
Thanks for supporting me! :)
I had that same monitor in the thumbnail on my old windows xp family pc
I use a AMD Athlon II X2 250. Is it any better?
what's that 'UFO' shaped like HSF that you're using there?
i got a connundrum lol do i use the athlon 7750 for its l3 cache or do i use the athlon 6000 for its brute force? tough choice.
Is the Athlon better than the Sempron?🤔 Thanks I got a hold of a Dell 531 Inspiron. Turns out it has a Sempron LE series 2.2Ghz, 4GB 800 mhz RAM, 64-bit, running Win 8.1. Think it had an Athlon before. Was the 850W PSU a bit overkill?
What are you able to do with it if you OC?
Currently have an Athlon II X2 255 paired with a GT730 GDDR5. It still serves me well.
Oh dude I used to have exactly a 3800+ back when I was a little kid, it was a huge upgrade from the athlon XP and my dad's pentium 3
Haha, that's awesome! I never owned an Athlon XP. Would be an interesting future project. My first CPU was the Celeron 2.6GHz from 2003. Then I had this Athlon 64 X2 3800+ and the next big step up was the Phenom II X4 955 BE, my first Quad-Core. ;)
+NIcolas11x12 English
well the Athlon XP(K7) has up to almost 2x times lower IPC, usually 1.4x-1.8x lower IPC than the Athlon 64(K8), also lacks the SSE2 instruction, doesn't have a built-in memory controller, and the Athlon XP is 32 bit which means that it lacks all the amd64/x86-64 instructions, so that's also a big downgrade too. In rendering the XP holds up very well to the 64 though.
And those are improvements for just little over a year after the final Athlon XP was released, nowadays people celebrate when 10% improvements are done year over year :/
I upgraded back then to a 3700+, I came from an XP 2400
Can you put a quad core in it though? It is an am2 am3 socket?
Was using a socket 939 Athlon X2 3800 with4Gb DDR1 and some kind of NVS video card, until last year. Only upgraded due to the caps on the board going :(
" we'll see if they even run" in the background we can see they run and also they do that pretty smooth but yeah i guess it will be a mistery XD
Case?
Just beautiful
hello is this any good for making music on window 8 64 ?
0:32 memory running in single channel mode not to mention the slow ddr2 kit you used is what attributes to the sub par performance.
This Cpu served me until 2015 :)
I had been using my X2 3800+ @2,66 up until 2016! Paired with 4 gigs of OCZ gold and a GTX260 it wasn't too bad for gaming or light office work. Ran pretty cool as well.
Unfortunately my work required more cpu power, so I had to upgrade. Still AMD though!
Great vid!
I still have my athlon +5000 I upgraded to a phenon 2 x3 720 which in still rocking to this day 10years later
Thank you sir
Thank YOU, sir. :)
I still have a system with Athlon X2 4800+ inside. It was running on an integreted GPU, but my main PC motherboard just died (yeah, sucks) so I took my old XFX HD 7770 from it, and I placed it inside Athlon one, since I switched to a laptop. I can say that it still works pretty good for it's age.
i almost have the same cpu, mine is an amd athlon 64 x2 5000+ with a gt 440 with 4gb ddr2, im happy that some really modern games run not on that many fps but it runs.
My youngest sons computer is an x2 7750. I just pulled some ram out of another system so he has 8 gb now. Using an old 512mb nvidia 9600gt. He loves it plays a bunch of silly browser Games i would never allow him to run that garbage on my main rig :)
Haha, for browser games that system is more than enough! :D
Hahaha XD
I still have my AMD Athlon 4850e xP
I just built a 955 today only could over clock with phenom tweaker because I still have a hp board. 3.7 stock cooler. Playing deus ex no problem. Can't believe I found a way to over clock with everything stock first time I tried that.
link of the case??
I had the exact same CPU in 2010-2014.
I'm still rocking my 5200 in my m2r32-mvp. Put the system together in late 2005 and it still runs 3ds max 2018 like a champ!
I've recently build a 939 Socket AMD Athlon x2 DDR1 System. It's really good for office stuff , basic internet browsing and watch media.
what is the compatible gpu for amd athlon II x2 240
You are kewl man
With 5 gigs of RAM, I figured it'd be 2x2GB and 2x512MB but then I saw a 1GB stick...so this was 1x2GB and 3x1GB? You might have seen just that little bit more performance with a proper dual-channel setup.
I'm sitting here playing with my old 5200+ (Brisbane) and 9600 GSO SLi setup. This thing just keeps going and I love it! I almost have more fun playing on older, lower power systems than sitting down at my main desktop (7700k and 1080Ti) or my laptop (8750h and 1060 6GB). "It just works" isn't enough of a challenge. My old HTPC with a q6700 and GT1030? YES. Cardboard box PC with an Athlon 2 235e running on .875 volts and a PCIe x1 GT 730? Hell yes.
I've got one of those CPU's sittin around, just don't have a board for it anymore. The board I did have gave up the ghost. Of course if I wanted to run some older games I have sitting around, I do have a spare first gen i7 machine equipped with 12 gigs of triple channel... just been too lazy to go thru all the trouble setting it all up to run XP or 7. So I just use my latest machine for the newer games on 10.
Can i use athlon x2 2200 with msi 320?
is the windows 7 32bit or 64 bit, I need to know for my Athlon
Can I upgrade from windows XP to Windows 7 or 10 ?
I have amd athlon ii x2 4450e, 2gb ram and some Nvidia Onboard graphics (512mb).
Is it better than a newer Celeron?
and here i am with my 7 years old pc with almost the same system.
AMD Phenom II X4 960t 3 Ghz (updated recently in march, it had a phenom ii x2 3.2Ghz)
6 GB RAM DDR2
Seagate HDD 500GB
GTX 760 OC 4GB (updated recently too in april, it had a gtx 550ti)
mobo ECS GF8200A
Still enjoying games.
I have 2007 Model, M2A692-GDG, AMD SOCKET AM2 ATHLON 64X2 PROCESSOR, AMD 690G+AMD SB600 CHIPSET, 8GB DDR2 800MHZ RAM
it is possible to upgrade processor and GPU? if any suggest.
name on the songs in the video??
I used to have 3600+ version of this same i bought in mid 2007 it seems.
Can I play with this CPU Athlon 64 3500+ (2,2Ghz) and a Nvidia GeForce Gt 710 Black Ops 2 over 30 or 40 FPS?
