If anyone is interested, there is a relatively new anime named Kono Oto Tomare, about a high school koto club and they actually play Rokudan no Shirabe :D
The anime includes many modern original pieces too. I really recommend it for anyone interested in learning more about koto. I have played koto for many years but never really enjoyed until I started reading the manga and trying new things. 👍
I like to imagine every time Shawn comes in as a guest, his toon self just yeets toon linfamy over the head with a shakuhachi, ties him up and then starts the video
I once saw a zither that looked almost exactly like this, complete with moving tuning blocks that was found in a 2,500 year old Chu state tomb in central china. I am not one of those waah such and such had it first types, but its so amazing how static this instrument has remained in form.. yet how the Japanese are able to get such an incredibly distinct sound from it compared to its chinese grandparents. The evolution of instruments and how they are played is so fascinating. :)

The name "Kengyo" was actually only given to revered blind musicians, so you had to be both blind and play awesome music in order to be called Kengyo. The only Kengyo still alive in modern Japan is Imai Kengyo(birth name Tsutomu Imai), who usually plays Heike-biwa but also plays shamisen and, of course, the koto.

Finding a koto performance seems straight forward, but I have no idea where I could go to play the actual instrument. It's too bad there isn't a library full of instruments for people to borrow for a day.
It looks like the Gayageum. Interestingly, even as far as Austria similar instruments were played (Zither). Also, I vaguely remember European stories about cursed rocks.
