  • With Halloween upon us, in today's episode we're chatting vintage Universal Monsters figures, a franchise that has captured my imagination since I was a young fella! Whilst my quest for classic 80s figures including Remco's Mini Monsters goes on, I've found a fun placeholder for the collection in the form of Burger King's 1997 Kids' Club toys, classic 5POA depictions of Dracula, Wolfman, Creature from the Black Lagoon and Frankenstein's Monster. Thanks in large part to Matt from ‪@keeponcollecting‬, I've been able to get my hands on a sealed set to bust open and review. Happy Halloween!🎃😱
    Thanks for watching and I hope to hear from you in the comments!

    I was 4 years old when these rolled out! The only one I didn’t get was the Wolfman. I remember vividly loving these, I had a fear of horror movies growing up but for whatever reason loved the Universal Monsters. They really don’t make kids meal toys like this nowadays. You practically got mini play sets with these things.
    The only one I have left is Creature! Dug him up a few years back from my parents house, cleaned him up and now he’s good as new. Even the water pump feature works like a charm.
    The translucent green on him just make him stand out among my odds and ends toy shelf.
    Tempted and most likely will buy me some online, especially the artwork and stickers(which I had no clue they where stickers as a kid! Hahha)
    Great video!

      That's so cool mate! I recall being pretty scared of horror movies as a young kid, just looking at the VHS covers in the horror section of the video store was enough to creep me out, but the Universal Monsters were easier to take. Glad to hear you had a great time with these toys, you should definitely track down the full set again!

    The Creature from the Black Lagoon figure was a classic of my childhood here in the USA. It'd always be floating around in a Lego box or a with my other toys, just kind of appearing without warning. I don't know where I got it, probably from a garage sale, but I didn't learn it was a Burger King toy until I was a teen or maybe an adult. I also got the Dracula one later on, probably also from a garage sale, and I always thought they were both quality toys.

    • @ScottCrusher
      @ScottCrusher  8 месяцев назад +1

      That's cool! I can just imagine these figures floating around in the toy box for years, mixed in with other toys. The quality is definitely impressive considering they came free with a cheap kids meal! Cheers mate🍻

    Scott, I truly believe we are long lost distant brothers! I'm left handed too, so damn those scissors. Now, these Burger King figures look awesome and thanks for brining them to my attention - I never knew they existed. I do have the Remco figures which are some of my favourites in the collection although still haven't found the play set yet. But I may have to look for the BK ones. As you say they are remarkable, and those small casks will look great on display! Nice one 👍

    • @ScottCrusher
      @ScottCrusher  8 месяцев назад

      Haha you feel my struggle Dave! Thanks mate, I'm glad I could shine a light on them. They're not the Remcos, but for what they are, these figures are brilliant, with all the bonus extras. 1997 is a touch on the late side for me, but we'll make an exception! Cheers Dave🍻

    great work scott. The 3.75 scale is really deep. Star wars, universal monsters, GI joe… as a kid, the play value of all those different universes in 1 scale is awesome

    • @ScottCrusher
      @ScottCrusher  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks heaps mate! I agree, keep all of your super-articulation and interchangeable hands, you just can't go wrong with 3.75" 5POA!

    • @MadisonCarter

      @@ScottCrusher The modern 6" ultimate/classics style is neat, but larger size and cost are so prohibitive. I kept up with MOTUC while it was going but once everyone else got into the style, I had to give it up, far too overwhelming. My favorite styles/scales will always be the Fisher-Price/Kenner 3.75 first, the MOTU/Remco 5.5 and then the 3.75 o-ring articulated style. @ADAM_CAMMA made a great point about all those different universes. Having my old Remco Gill-Man fight Greedo and Klinger from MASH was a childhood rite of passage, of sorts.

    • @ScottCrusher
      @ScottCrusher  8 месяцев назад

      Yeah I'm of the same opinion, modern 6" deluxe stuff is really cool to see, but not the most practical in terms of cost and space to build and display a deep collection. All of the vintage lines I got into as a kid ranged from 3.75" to 4", with enough consistency in scale for some fun mash ups. Love the idea of Gillman going up against Greedo and Klinger!

      @@ScottCrusher I'd love to see someone today do a more extensive line of Universal monsters in that scale beyond the main 5-6 that usually get figures. Super7's covered the main group, but I hope someday someone goes all-in on a 3.75 and get us everyone from the expected (Dracula, Mummy, Wolfman, etc) to deeper cuts (similar to what Sideshow did 25 years ago) - give us the Werewolf of London, the Metaluna Mutant, one of the Mole People, Chaney Jr as Count Alucard, etc. Just, like, EVERY Universal monster.

    • @ScottCrusher
      @ScottCrusher  8 месяцев назад +1

      I definitely have to educate myself on some of the Universal Monsters characters that haven't transcended mainstream popular culture. I only know the Metaluna Monster because of the 1994 TMNT crossover figure and hadn't heard of Count Aculard. I clearly have some movies to watch!
