So proud of Peter to know when enough is enough. Class 3 with sensible performance upgrades is the way to go. I see our rights going down the tubes with always got to go faster mentality. Once regulations set in, they never go away.

That bike is BEGGING to have that hole filled in with a giant battery. You could remove those pedals and turn that into an all out motorcycle, no license required :)
Preach buddy, people just need to chill abit with the crazy power, I typically ride in bike lanes fairly slow and just use the power I have to get around things.

Get a step-down converter for the 12v stuff. The taillights/lights/singals don't draw anything if they're LEDs. I stepped away from the seperate battery BS years ago and haven't looked back. Makes life easier.

I agree with everything you said. I have a 3k watt motor and 50 mph is sketchy on a ebike. My tires didnt pop but the tube did while i was riding. I upgraded to motorcycle tires and the ride is much better but with the cost of range. Its still sketchy and i would still be fine with a 2k motor.

Thank you so much for this information! I am in the process of waiting for parts to build an 8K bike, kinda like eBikeguy. While I'm waiting, I am starting to look beyond that build and the cafe racer style ebike is starting to grow on me. A Super 73 clone might be the bike I build after the 8K. I bought a Super73 style frame on Aliexpress during Black Friday and am starting to ponder what motor I would use. I was thinking of 5K as I am closer to 300lbs than 200lbs. I am rethinking motor size now based on your video and I think I am going to look more closely at a 2K / Fardriver combo instead of the 5K now.
I recently discovered your content and am enjoying getting caught up with your videos. I have only had an ebike for about six months and am looking forward towards a third build! I also believe I live in your neighborhood so maybe we'll cross paths, thanks again!

Peter you can put motorcycle tires on stock 73 rims. Watch power lithium do it all day long.
How is it steering with the big battery on top?
If you shop around you can actually find controllers now that have 72v (52v, 48v, etc.) to 12v reducer built-in so you can power regular 12v accessories (blinkers, horn, lights, USB ports, etc.) off your main ebike battery. It eliminates the need for a separate auxiliary battery or the reduced selection of special higher voltage accessories. My Juiced Bikes HyperScorpion stock controller has that feature. You can also just add a separate reducer (these are commonly used in electric golf carts), but even the smallest stand-alone reducers are about 4"x3", and then you have to tap into your main wiring harness, etc. It's just slicker and more convenient to get one built-in to the controller. 12v accessories draw just a smidgeon of your main battery power.
Anyway, excellent video about moderation. Sorry to be that guy, but all these people modifying ebikes to go 60-70mph+ is just drawing unwanted negative attention to the rest of us who are using common sense/moderation when modifying. Not to mention the safety factor. I realize with you being more a celebrity than typical Joe Modder you have to be more careful with what you're recommending, but it's also just common sense.

What 2k motor are you using?
I don't think a 2k motor is necessarily better than a 3k in all ways, but it is definitely better if it fits your needs! There's a lot to be said for right-sizing, especially when it comes to efficiency and handling. I've considered swapping motors, but my existing one weighs only 9 pounds and makes the bike nice and nimble on the trails. A 48 pound motor and the battery it needs would make my bike handle like a truck, and for an ex marathoner who likes to pedal when I'm alone, I don't want that. Besides, on a bike you can pick up and carry with one hand, 2,600 watts is a blast.
Regarding tires, don't guess about the speed rating. If the actual speed rating is not on the side of the tire, check with the manufacturer. If THEY can't or won't tell you, assume they are sketchy and their product is unsafe above 35mph for e-bike tires. Regarding rims not being strong enough for motorcycle tires, it depends on the company. Some rims are thin and flimsy, others are stronger. I know Rads are not popular with the group ride crowd, but I ran motorcycle tires on my RadMini stock rims and they handled it with ease, including jumps. Thanks for the video!
Tires and rims is no problem bro they wouldn't sell it if it was that flimsy. I have 4 inch bicycle wheels at 60mph daily and it's close to a year now with no issues just regular maintenance and service. Plus my bike weighs a lot more than a regular bicycle overall weight I have on those wheels is like 200 pounds

Depending on the controller you put on there. But that’s territory I haven’t stepped in yet. But honestly the stock motor isn’t very powerful. I would start from fresh with a 2k kit
It's would be a waste not use the stock hub even if you fry it sooner than later. I think it's safe if you get a good controller and limit the output. Just don't expect to hit 45 mph the entire time without checking the hub for overheating.
i just upgraded my ZX into 2000w and got a long range battery 48v. My only problem is the vibration during acceleration at first go or stop..
From what I've learned here the point is to go 72V. I think your stock hub can handle it if you have the right controller.
The vibration is your acceleration is your wheel trying to pull itself out of the mount. Make sure you dont force it out.

I understand what point you are trying to make here but because you don't have the ability to warp physics with the power of your mind.
Your 2k cannot do what a 3k motor does because the motors are rated for what they can if they are running constantly. You can run your hub motor at it's rated voltage and 2000 watts going through it 24/7 and it will just chug along. If you exceed this you will cook your windings. You sb run a hub motor at 2 or 3 times it's rated voltage and hit hurt it as long as it doesn't overheat. Layers of varnish are all that insulate the coils/ windings of your motor So, when it gets too hot you burn that insulating enamel paint off the wire and soon after you are going to have some crispy mosfets in your controller and the magic smoke will come forth and that short in the controller will then finish off what is left of your insulation in your hub motor.
A 2k motor cannot do 3k duty. For short periods of time yes but the you are dealing with huge performance losses and you are shortening the life of your motor. Motors are pretty cheap, most people way overpay for all this stuff. If you are doing short rides you can get by with a smaller motor but it behoove you to actually use the thermistor in your hub motor and keep an eye on those temps. If you have 6 wires in your bundle for your halls that 6th one is probably temp, if it's a qsmotor it's probably white.
Peter, if you are going to push that motor like that do yourself a big favor and put Statorade in there. It works. It seems counterintuitive to put iron solids in something with moving parts like that but it really makes a big difference. Ferrofluid isn't just for making trippy videos with or reaching kinds the basics of magnetism. You can get those finned heat sinks but air is the worst conductor of heat. It is garbage compared to liquid cooling.
If you overheat a magnet it ceases to be a magnet. Heat is the enemy of all electronics. You can overvolt a motor but you have to do so responsibly or you can seriously shorten the life of components.
Now, here's what you should have said Peter. All these guys with the tiny dicks and big controllers, how about you end this arms race of one upping each other you have going on before you kill you somebody that isn't you. The guys that have such a big controller and such a powerful battery that they have to "turn it way down" to hang back and go at a speed or ride a long distance that your bike can't cannot.

I have sone strong opinions myself but I also don't want to tell someone that my way is better and then pontificate about it on my RUclips channel berating then about safety as I split lanes and weave in between moving cars.
I'm picking up what you are putting down. I get it. I see you. Just know that to some people the way YOU were riding would be questionable and you do railing on about all this stuff you obviously get a little hot about pretty much makes you a distracted driver. So that kind of detracts from the message a bit.

This guy doesn't really know what he's talking about when it comes to mods. Just letting everyone know that. So if we're looking at this and you're taking us as A, 0 this is what it does, I suggest looking at another video. of someone. that has more experience with these kinds of things. I'm not saying he's wrong with his opinion. because I agree. trying to make these bikes go extremely fast is extremely dangerous. Also due to the fact that the brakes that you get are not rated for those kinds of speeds. But you can switch to motorcycle brakes and upgrade everything. But at that point it's like damn you might as well just buy a motorcycle.
