Wasn't until I went to college back in 96 when I was finally able to hear what I missing. Seen them live twice since then and their concerts cannot be described in words. They are true legends.
A lot of rock bands were kind of pushed into recording a disco type song at the height of Disco (which this was - 1977 or 1978). The Rolling Stones did it amongst a lot of other bands.

Awesome song. And you were spot-on when you called in "disco-rock." Kiss had other Top 10 hits in the U.S. with the slow ballad "Beth" and also with the live version of "Rock and Roll All Nite" (with the guitar solo in the middle ... the studio version didn't have the guitar solo).

Standouts include Strutter, Cold Gin, Black Diamond and 100,000 Years, ah hell the whole thing. One time in the early 80s they started playing this song and stopped play at the beginning of it, then proceeded to tell us they can't play this song because they forgot their white suits. So definitely Disco! They never finished playing the song. What you were trying to say is it has a 4, 4 beat like most Disco songs.
They got a lot of blowback from their fans for this song because for those that might have liked disco (and many didn't) disco-fatigue had set in. Alice Cooper is another person who falls into the "don't judge an engine by its paint job". His song I Never Cry shocked me, almost as much as Beth by Kiss. More terrific tracks are Heaven's On Fire, Let's Put The X In Sex, Detroit Rock City., Rock n Roll All Night.
Instead of beth, a big hit for them, I'd suggest meatier yet accessible cuts like "Sure Know Something" or "Hard Luck Woman" (written with Rod Stewart in mind, but wonderfully sung by Kiss's drummer)

Tammy was addicted to prescription drugs and George was a bad alcoholic. They had many private and public fights yet through it all they totally loved each other. Tammy passed away at only 55 yrs. This song is different from the melodic rock to heavy rock in their catalog but there are some pretty catchy songs on the album this is from, it’s called Dynasty and there are a lot catchy gems on that album as well as songs that are so different from what you might think they would perform given their appearance. When they first come out we would listen to them and keep it a secret from our other friends and family but they are very different and talented !
