  • American artist Florine Stettheimer was a poet, stage designer, classically-trained painter and Paris-style salon host to some of the most prominent creatives of New York's Jazz Age including Marcel Duchamp, Georgia O'Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz. “Because [her work] isn’t easily lumped in with the era’s major movements, it was written off as lovely but ultimately unclassifiable and therefore a blip in art history.” -Art critic, Max Pearl

Hi Don, thanks! It's really nice (motivating!) to get positive feedback - much appreciated.

A witty presentation for witty art. I love the heads bobbing beside the ocean liner. RUclips viewers likely have little idea of the time (and the thousands of small decisions) put into a video like this. The result is that we get to have fun while also learning something new. Now, if Laurie would do a little more research into optimization, more of her videos might get the views they deserve.

Hi. Your comment could not be more spot on. Yes, these take forever. Yes, 1000s of decisions. I really appreciate you understanding. Just watched your video on Judy Chan - loved it and her art. As for the illusive optimization...please, share the golden key, would you? Because while I've done some research apparently I'm missing a big something. Thank you for watching, commenting, sharing kind words - very much appreciated.

@@LauriebFrankel I wish I had a golden key. And God knows, I bumble mightily when it comes to optimization for myself. But that won't stop me from mansplaining! I'll stick to three things. 1. Titles: For this one, maybe something like "Florine Stettheimer: This Feminist Painter of New York's Jazz Age Shocked the Art World." A little click-baity, but also containing some key words for Big Algorithm. And it suggests we'll have fun watching, rather than get a lecture about "importance." 2. Description: You wisely mention that Stettheimer played "host to some of the most prominent creatives of New York's Jazz Age." But you didn't mention any of those geniuses. Mr. Algorithm doesn't watch your video, so It will only know that there's a connection to O'Keeffe, Stieglitz, Hartley, and Duchamp if you drop their names in your description. If you do, your video might be recommended to all those thousands of people looking up info on those artists. 3. Channel Focus: I hesitate here because I am guilty of it as well. It's great that your channel is called Your Art Fix with Laurie b. Frankel. But your actual channel includes comedy sketches (that are actually funny), videos about horses, and video essays possibly closer to your written work. I vote for a more exclusive focus on Art. I bet that's what most of your subscribers came here for. Other subject matter might move to a Miscellany channel. And it's surprising that a channel about Art has no Art at the top of your home page. Okay, I said three, but here's a possibility. You're established as a writer, humorist, and possibly a performer. You put your name in the title of the channel, and you placed your photo as well. That suggests that you might be an effective on-screen presence. Viewers could connect with the art through you, and their recognition of you can lead to promotion of your other endeavors. And now, I will go mind my own business.

Wow, thanks for 'splaining man :) Seriously, that's a lot of great advice I'd like to implement. As for the lack of focus, was thinking about that recently, thought of starting new channel (with 0 subscribers again) as yes, you're right all sign up for art vids. For now I think I'll make ancillary stuff private/hidden. I dread being on screen (as myself :) but suffice it to say I hear you! Appreciate you taking the time to watch/share helpful tips!
