One thing with this buggy & the desert truck that people have recommended too fix is the shock oil is a bit overfilled on two shocks usually that are stiffer then the others. (gets a sort of hydro lock situation where its suddenly a very harsh stop in it's travel. It's an easy fix though, empty out a little bit of it & then press the shock about half way down as you fill it up again & seal it back up.) So it's really stiff & the diffs don't have enough or any grease in them. The wheelnut thing on the older 144001 was fixed already nearly the same month by getting longer shafts with more thread on them during production, so it actually goes through the wheelnut the same as this new version. And scale wise this is 1:14th scale still it's a longer chassis similar too the lc racing 1:14th scale short course truck & desert buggy.
Just a heads up. WLToys naming scheme uses the first two digits as the scale. 12428 is 1/12 scale, same as this one. 10428 is their 1/10 scale version of the 12428, etc... Great video guys! I get that feeling every time I bring out my 12428 that I've now upgraded to brushless. But this little buggy really screams for a brushed motor.
This car is the same as the 144001, just with an extended wheelbase-longer chassis, center driveshaft, and chassis brace. They share the majority of the other parts. They’re both wonderful cars!
That's pretty impressive! And you are right, it doesn't need any upgrades! I think that brushless upgrade would be way too much power, and you would just spin the wheels and be basically uncontrollable. Fun video!
Just bought this for my 9 year old kid. He loves jumping it. He broke the wing off within the second run, but it is built really strong. Love the aluminum shocks and chassis. FYI, if you look ahead of the car by about 10-15 ft you can do course corrections smoother, so that you can hit that ramp nice and fast. Also if you have a 3d printer or wish to buy one, I designed and printed a battery lock that gets locked into the chassis with dowels. Haven’t lost the battery since.
I have just ordered mine today, and can't wait to get it. My son and I used to run these rc cars, but then he discovered girls which was over 30 years ago. But after watching this video I just had to get back into this sport. Your excitement and enthusiasm is contagious!
My son and I have enjoyed this buggy so much. Such good quality for a cheaper RC. We have abused the poor thing also. Thanks so much for the recommendation. Only RC things I have bought are from your recommendations. Y'all have given us a hobby that my son and I can enjoy together.
AWESOME buggy and agree with most of what you said!! THIS buggy drives like on "controlled ice"! ! I DO have the 144001 & I have to say is most FUN RC of this type! Battery slings out often! I WOULD definitely get this buggy!! Abby, think of the RAMP as the only puddle around!! I have to think mine IS FLAT!! Thanks Saylors for introducing me a SUPER COOL buggy!! 💟👍😘
I’ve just purchased one , just got to wait for it to be delivered, until then I have to re-re-re-re watch this video and live vicariously through you 😂
I asked for this for my birthday after watching this video. This is my first r/c since the 80s and the kid in me is loving it! I do find it runs quite warm but I have nothing to compare it to so that may be normal. I have been eyeing up brushless components to upgrade it but may just pick up a 124017 down the road.

Hi Guys. Just wanted to wish your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. By watching your channel this year, i have purchased 3 RC's. JJRC M02 VTOL, WLtoys WL915 Boat and the 124019 RC Buggy. Now my family are like the Navy, covering Air, Sea and Land. God Bless You, family of 3. Thanks for the reviews. Jose NYC
Another good one for WLToys! We have a 12428 and it's great. They are edging more toward true hobby grade RC stuff, and their prices are very reasonable.
Nate, I thought Abby was gonna give ya a run for the money for the durability test but you bashed it and it took it...You win lol. Except for the battery being thrown out, I think 2 thumbs up is a fair call. Great vid as always 👍❤
Woot!! Yes!! I finally win at a ground vehicle 💥💯 Haha, thanks! Yeah this thing just felt like it was made for me or something. Really like this RC 👍😎⚓
Nate! Do you “really like it?!?!?” 😂😂👍🏻. Just to be clear, it’s the same as the 144001 except it’s longer. Same diffs , suspension, shock towers, etc. the chassis, drive shaft and upper brace is longer. That’s all. And these diffs are shimmed to help prevent them from stripping , which was a problem with the 144001. If you keep it, I highly recommend you open both diffs and grease them. Have fun!!!
Great video and you do compare it with the 144001. It did take a bashing and that is what people may like out of the box RTR. I got one. Far out you smashed it around off the ramp. I just got into RC cars. I'm not seeing much info on how to keep up the maintenance. I would like to find a forum for RC advice. Great videos thank you TheRCSaylors. I like your honesty. Just love wltoys buggies, they are just awesome RC's. I'm lucky enough to have two 144001s and I run them every chance I can. I'll be adding more to my colection soon. Great video, thanks for sharing. John
Very cool John! We've had that buggy before and never have good luck with it. Soft metal almost always bends on the shock tower. Any advice? BTW, we think you'll love what we have planned for our channel very soon! 👍😁😎⚓
@@TheRcSaylors Maybe you just had a bad one. I jump mine in my garden landing on grass, I've not bent anything yet. Both cars have jumped hundreds of six foot plus jumps. Only thing I've done is soften the suspension a little. Be safe and well guys. John
Correction. The wife tried to take down a concrete wall with it and now I had to order new axles and shocks and replace the whole front end. Less than 2 hours of having it!!! Lmao
I just got the 124017v2 it is awesome! But does not Like the grass,Tires bite so well it will flip and popped the front end apart.Pops back together.Better suited for a dirt track.Great Buggie for the price.
I think people are actually missing the whole point of this video and the hobby completely. I’m subscribed and followed the Rc Saylors on Instagram, they put a good amount of effort to make videos so people don’t buy something that’s not worth your hard-earned-money. It’s great that a company or brand made a hobby more affordable as well as it being fun, you’ll be more happy knowing that you have spent a small amount of money for this much fun as you would with rc car that was two or three times more of that amount. I hope you, Nate and Abby, keep on making amazing content like this. :) -Alpha Studio Production
So Nice!!!!! You should use this ramp more times! I have the same ramp and a big one (same style, plastic, but wider and higher by kryptonite). The small one is almost impossible to hit if you do not behind the ramp (with 1/14 or 1/12 scale), but the big one is easier and much more funny!
The chassis a little longer and all the parts for the 144001 are interchangeable so if you. Own 144001 you might just want to buy the chassis and body. me personally I'm going to get the buggy ☝
It's fast, cool colors, and takes a bashing. Pretty good. So waiting to see how it compares to the buggy. Bring on the competition/comparison. Good review surprised neither of you could hurt/break/kill it. ⚓⚓👍💖👍⚓⚓.
Some advice for all 144 and 124 owners: - Check diffs and put differential grease in them - Refill shocks with 1000cps (60 weight shock oil). I used Traxxas brand - Buy 2 spare diffs (trust me, you wanna do this) -Buy metal wheel nuts -Buy offroad tires from aliexpress for more grip (they cost about $10 for a set) A CHEAP 2600mAh battery will run for about 5~8 minutes. An A brand 5000-5500mAh battery will run for about 25~30 minutes. Also, if you currently own a 144001, you can convert it to a 124019 once the spare chassis, center driveshaft and chassis bridge go online ;) Have fun!
I said screw it and put a 3s in the stock electronics in a video. It survived. Now it's brushless. Foam tires came today. Speed test coming. It definitely handles better.

I can say because if you both I now have been bitten by the rc bug and probably need counseling!!! Jk !! I now have 8 rc’s like the typhon 3s , Granite , 2 boats etc etc. thank you for your great videos . Oh btw , just received my 124019 and a959 !!!
This is a WLToys... Not WPL. ;) WLToys has that famous and apparently robust green rock/sand buggy. WPL has the 1:16 cargo trucks, "Hilux" crawler trucks and what not... Both brands seem to be doing good though! 👍
Nice video! Impressive car! This might be my next car. I have a 144001 and wouldn’t consider jumping it more than a couple feet on asphalt. After changing the wheel nuts and greasing the differentials, It’s a great inexpensive, fast car for concrete or asphalt. I stopped running it off road as it needed repair after every couple runs.
Maybe I just got lucky with all of the abuse we threw at this RC, but in my experience it would have broken something after just a couple ramps if it was going to break. I love this buggy! Kicking out an older RC from my collection to keep this one 😁 If you plan on ordering it, please consider doing so through our link. It helps us keep the lights on at no extra cost to you. Thanks for watching 👍⚓😎
@@TheRcSaylors I watched that landing a couple times at .25 speed. Freeze framed it on impact. Lol. That wheel is bent out about 45 degrees in the front. Hard impact. I’m by no means experienced at jumps, but observant. From watching videos and the limited jumping I have done, I’m convinced it’s all in the landing. When I first got my 144001, I watched two videos from a guy in an RC Facebook group complaining that every time out he was replacing the front swing arm or C hub. He was landing heavily throttle on the front wheels. Often wedging into a rock or ditch while still powering the drive train. I’ve replaced mine once after hitting a steel lamp post cruise around 3/4 speed at the Port of Ashland.
Can you guys do more bashing vids with the typhon 3S and senton 3S? I’ve got the 144001- that car is awesome. This looks tempting. Great video as usual guys!
I have the 144001 and it has so many problems, it's the same vehicle with a shorter chassis making it 1/14 😢 I'm actually scrapping them for repairing my LC Racing vehicles for whatever parts fit like the suspension parts and wheels and the bodies and wing if I convert any of the trucks to a buggy. I would be tempted to get this RC, it looks really nice but amongst my 3 WL and my 5 LC RCs my WLToys RCs all have gear issues, they were very fast at first but now grind like crazy which is a real bummer. I hope that they will make some improvements as they have a lot of potential so do the LC cars.
@M J I've noticed this as well, it's still a great channel though and they do awesome reviews. I think some people have just had better luck with certain products than others.
a comparison wit the losi 1/16 scale buggy be cool cuz really there not that far apat in price 115 vs 149 for the what extra 34 dollar differnce i think i just go with the losi
I really love the Wltoys rc cars range, They are Fun, a Great price, and decent quality.. I think I'll put some reviews of their RC cars on my channel soon because I've been impressed with almost every Wltoys rc car I've ever had, great video guy's👍👍
Very eager to hear how the Desert Buggy version compares to this. I’m sure the differences will be small but the aesthetics on the desert buggy appeal more to me. Does the roll cage push up the CG drastically and cause it to roll easier?
Literally just got mine in the mail today. Took it out for a short spin in my yard and down the street. Its pretty darn impressive! I also own a Traxxas Slash 4x4 and must say this is equally as fun! (P.S traxxas slash tires bolt right onto this WPL car but needs a little trimming on the chassis for front tires to clear at full turn)
Nice video. I have an idea. 124019 (1:12 purple buggy) Vs 124018 (New 1:12 Dessert buggy version) Race on Oval RC track, Abby vs Nate who will emerge victorious? 🏁🏆

I want to order one but I don't want to wait weeks for it to arrive. I'll wait till they're fully stocked and ready to ship.
Can you guys do more bashing vids with the typhon 3S and senton 3S? I’ve got the 144001- that car is awesome. This looks tempting. Great video as usual guys!
I love how Wltoys always come up with awsome daily bashers and that is an awsome little rc car and I love purple rc cars!😎
I really love the Wltoys rc cars range,
They are Fun, a Great price, and decent quality..
I think I'll put some reviews of their RC cars on my channel soon because I've been impressed with almost every Wltoys rc car I've ever had, great video guy's👍👍
Lock tight the shock tower screws and take it to the skate park ! Also would like to see it on a dirt track ! It maybe my first 12th scale vehicle.
So amazing! I will be getting one of these in the future
Finally I got a real rc ad before the videa. It was for horizon hobby yay
Woot!! Horizon ad vs scam ad 👍😎⚓
WL Toys did a great 👍 job with this buggy . I’m impressed with how fast it goes with the brushed motor .
WL 124018 vs Hbx 2995. SO hard to decide! 🔥🤤🤔
Both pretty great choices in this price point! I think I know which one I'd go with if I could only pick one 😉😬
Ok. Now I gotta get one
You guys are real rough on these things but I guess its a good way to test durability.
This is the blue and green one with a longer chassis
The car is for SPEED RUNS but best at hard sand surface
Love this RC! 👍😀😎⚓️
Nice model its looking like a high branded buggy.it more power ful.liked it.👍🇮🇳
Nate, you need to revisit the 1/8 scale crawler and show the difflocks and the 2nd gear too.
I wish WLTOYS would make a truck this scale! 😕
I'd put foam tires on this buggy.
WLTOYS have the best naming convention! 😂
That would be awesome!
i ordered the 18, just waiting for it to come in
Awesome! 🤜💥🤛
Would you recommend this or the 12428 as a first rc car? I'm looking for something that can do gravel and grass for around $100
Be ok with the 12428 as a first time most WL Toys are entry level, one could do worse
The gold chassis reminds me of my Gold pan team associates rc10 from the mid late 80’s.
🤜💥🤛
Very cool 👍😎
Very eager to hear how the Desert Buggy version compares to this. I’m sure the differences will be small but the aesthetics on the desert buggy appeal more to me. Does the roll cage push up the CG drastically and cause it to roll easier?
Any chance you will get the Desert Buggy soon? I’d like to order it for Christmas but would like your opinion/review first.
Check out the review on the 124018 Desert Buggy on RUclips by Micko RC or by Tomley RC. It rocks!
Just ordered mine with 3x batteries on your recommendation. Thanks for the great video. Looks fun ! $150.00 w shipping and tax. 3 batteries ! Not bad.
Me too
Wow! That looks so fun! And Abby's last ramp had me full belly laughing. 😂❤️⚓
$120 isn't a bad price at all 👍🏾
🤜💥🤛
Pound for Pound the best feel good vid!!
Thank you!! 👍😁😎⚓
Nice video.
I have an idea.
124019 (1:12 purple buggy)
Vs
124018 (New 1:12 Dessert buggy version)
Race on Oval RC track, Abby vs Nate who will emerge victorious? 🏁🏆
Sounds like an extremely fun time 👍😎⚓
Are you driving on an abandoned go-cart track? That thing is fast for a brushed car.
I would love to see some slo-mo's on the ramp runs.
Yeah, we need to do more slow motion for sure 😁👍⚓😎
Superb reviews, thank you.
Would this be good on lawn or is it too low. Would a 1/10 be better?
Many thanks, keep up the good work 😉
It looks like you had A LOT of fun😂😂💙💜💚 I may look into a couple of them..
These things are a blast 😁👍⚓😎
I love my losi mini 8t but I swear I'm always breaking rear diff covers.
Your laugh Nate is so sticky and funny, I'm laughing all the time... LOL
I want to see the desert buggy one, leaning that way for something different.
Have one ordered 😉👍😎⚓
Hey Nate have you seen
Brand:XLF
Item No:F17
Scale: 1/14
Looks the same as what you have but brushless and with extra parts/ wheels. Love the channel by the way!
You guys need to check out Power Craze Shift 24 Mini RC, Highway Speed Buggy it's only $25, proportional steering low and high speed range with lights and working turn signals
