Interesting. Portnoy had eluded to it on one of their audio commentaries, but no one really said what had happened. Interesting tidbits. James hasn't been sounding great for some years now. The human vocal cords don't age as well as other instruments, unfortunately.
Stand in singer? It would have been a long term investment in the band! Don't tell me you wouldn't be able to find a great singer to fill in for a few months!
A stand in singer? Yeah, you try to find a singer who had LaBrie's range at the time, who also knew all the lyrics to their songs at the time and had the stage presence necessary for an entire leg of an album tour, while also explaining to your label that it's temporary, and that you're still a worthwhile investment and that they shouldn't just DROP you entirely (remember they were on thinning ice with their label because Awake didn't sell NEARLY as well as I&W), all the span of 10 DAYS. Hindsight's 20-20, but I don't see that happening. I'm not saying LaBrie made the right choice. I don't think there was a right choice at all. I can at least appreciate the sacrifice he made.
It's almost impossible to find a singer as good as James. They play 3 hours shows. Try to sing for 3 hours 2-3 times a week. Most singers won't handle that pressure.
Yeah I didn't like it! As who wants to see such a band go through such an ordeal of being caught between a Rock and a Hard place!! You are sounding better James!? What if tuning to different frequencies!? Glad to see you coming back with a new EPIC album. A.V.F.T.T.O.T.W. Namaste
The fact he's able to sing at all in his 60's is a miracle. James deserves more credit for his vocal ability before and after the injury.
Well you sound great man!! Keep on healing.
Wow! So sorry to hear that. Glad he's still doing his best.

He should’ve take 6 months of. DT could’ve ask Charlie Dominici to replace Labrie for the rest of the tour
Charlie wasn't even active in music at that time. Also the material was out of his reach anyway
There would no DT without James decision. Period ❤
I guess you haven't heard of Liquid Tension Experiment?
@@quincyhartgers2903 I guess you don’t know the history…
@@Max72TheOnlyOne What? Portnoy got carte blanche and assembled his dream team for this project. What do you think the "history" is?
