- At least one person was killed, nine others were injured after a shooting near the campus of Tennessee State University, Nashville Police said.
Some of the victims may have been involved in the shooting, according to police.
The shooting happened near the university's homecoming event, on Jefferson Street and 27th Avenue.
Police are expected to provide further updates at a later time.

I live in Nashville and this happens every year. The whole black community gets in on it and the violence breaks out. It's a homecoming tradition. It should be cancelled to save lives.

Location is unfortunate. Geography connects the locale and the event. Hopefully no students associated with either university were involved. Lots of people go to events associated with universities, and not all have the best of intentions.
Although vendors are in that area every weekend, the mass amount of people aren't. We know most were there for the Parade early that morning, and the mingling in and around the TSU campus for Homecoming. As always, the locals don't know how to act when a lot of people are in town. Also have an influx of out of towners that come to Nashville for TSU Homecoming, that also don't know to act at times.

I was there heard about 30-40 gun shots. Everyone took off running. The same area was full of people supporting and enjoying the parade. As soon as they opened Jefferson Street back up, about 30 min the shooting started. It's just a handful of individuals that have nothing to do with the University call the homecoming festivities. This is so sad people brought their kids out ask for the parade into support the University and then somebody has to go and do this. A 14 year old girl got shot and also a 3-year-old.
