      The point of religion is "there's no secular argument to prove God exists"? X.x thats really odd.. why would God construct a universe where nothing could prove His existence? Does He not want rational people to believe in Him?

What would the point of religion be if you could prove God's existence?...there are some positions taken by past philosophers and thinkthers that prpve the existence of a greater being...the Thomas Aquinas book explains this a lot more...basocally the unmoved mover, how every object is either acting or being acted upon...

      @AA Productions The Bible condemns lust (which many Christians will tell you is what homosexuality is all about, and how 'lusting' after someone you're not supposed to is doubly wrong, unless you're a straight Christian, of course), and the Bible DOES say you are to be punished for another's actions, the biggest and most famous example being that every single person who has ever lived and ever will live on planet Earth is to be punished because someone ate some fruit one time. It's important to be accurate when criticizing the Bible, both so that you can educate others, and so that others cannot use our ignorance against us.

Not believing in a god, for example, does not mean that an individual does not believe in anything supernatural, and there are philosophical arguments that people use to try and reach objective morality from a secular viewpoint. My perspective is more that whether or not actions are objectively moral is dependent on a subjective goal. When given a goal to base actions on, however, we can make cut and dry determinations on whether or not they are moral. What that goal is will vary, but most people I've met, at the very least, are able to agree on a basic goal of "Human Wellness", which we can judge things by. We can then objectively determine that theft, murder, and other crimes are morally abhorrent.

    As someone who has grown up in a Christian household, I can verify that the concept of hell plagues me to this day. My whole life I’ve had doubts about God and its philosophy seep in and out of my brain, but I brushed it all off. I remember being twelve/even younger and feeling sick and worried for my friends who I thought were going to hell just because they weren’t Christians. My parents told me that any child aborted got sent to heaven automatically, so I resorted to hoping that if a thirteen year old non Christian died, they’d still be young enough to be accepted into heaven. In grade 9 I denounced Christianity because I believed in God but I believed He was hateful. Then I was “born again” and in grade 10 I felt so connected to God and couldn’t believe I ever thought He wasn’t unconditionally loving. But then I started thinking through it more nearing the end of grade 11, and by that summer my brain was overflowing with questions. I pursued those questions and now I am agnostic, leaning toward atheism... but that doesn’t mean I’m still not scared out of my mind. Because I am. I am so afraid that hell might actually exist and I’m making the wrong choice and am going to be sent there eternally. Even though logically it makes no sense to me, that fear is still there. I’ve been surrounded by Christianity ever since I was little and “gave my life to the Lord” for the first time when I was four. How can you expect me to think for myself at that age, when my whole environment was faith-based? Anyways, I’m trying to believe what I really believe and I want so badly to think through my beliefs and believe in what I actually believe in, but I am so scared. I am still so, so petrified of hell.

      Yes all that and to this day the Pope and pretty much all the top religious uppity ups ascribe to the veracity of the Hell myth. Of course I would imagine there are Christian sects that don’t believe that hell is an actual thing but rather some sort of metaphor or something.

      @@peterf90 Yes, unfortunately! Tbh I don't think hell is anything more than an effective but damaging scare tactic. I do have some friends that believe in a Christian god and perceive hell in that way (and are much more progressive with their beliefs overall), but also they do kind of have to throw out most of the entire bible to be both a good person and a Christian, lmfao.
      That comment is a while ago and I completely forgot I ever wrote it. So interesting to see where I was at with everything though.
      I rarely if ever experience much fear of hell now as of present :) moreso frustrated with Christians in politics and family life nowadays, and also mindblown as to the things that I used to believe in so strongly and that used to rule and control my life. It really did alter the course of my actions and view of self and others, I would say in a very negative way.

As Pascal said, *some people believe whatever they want not on the basis of evidence but what they find attractive.* As the song goes, "everyone wants to rule the world", to be their own god, be it power, ego, career, self image, sport, gambling, sex, violence, porn. If u don't worship your Creator U have to worship at the altar of something, such is the abject poverty and *unyielding dispair* of a materialistic worldview as conceded by philosopher, Bertrand Russell.

I don't need to worship anything like you think you do. If I did, realizing that God is not real would have led me to suicide. I never even thought of it as an option. The problem with absolute assertions is that it only takes one counter-example to refute it.

Nobody can live like that, so you ALL gravitate to religious videos desperately trying to deny the God who haunts Ur every waking moment, the one we all desperately seek that hides in plain view
      Pax vobiscum

    • @zemorph42
      @zemorph42 6 лет назад +2

      Gerry De naro I'm not pretending. For 27 years I was absolutely certain that God exists, and for 10 of those years(1990-2000) I was devoted to him and his will. I also had vivid experiences that convinced me that I was on the right track and on my way to heaven, until I learned that those "experiences" were nothing more than brain chemistry and not evidence of anything else. You have no idea what it's like to have the foundation of your entire conception of everything ripped out from under you in an instant! How dare you assume that I am pretending! You know nothing about me. The rest of your comment confirms that.
      Meaning and hope are not dependent on the existence of God or of any kind of "ultimate" meaning or purpose of the universe. Why do you think you need that, anyway? Just because there's no ultimate meaning or purpose for the universe, doesn't mean that I can't find my own purpose in life.

For instance, no theist I've asked will wire me all their money on faith that God told me they wanted them to...odd, that, isn't it? It's almost as if they are skeptical of my claim and would only believe me with good reason, like me proving it. Lol.

      Rolands It can never be brainwashing if it's the truth. Evolution is a fact, teaching that to kids is NOT brainwashing no matter how much religious people want to claim it is. Science doesnt need to brainwash people to make them accept it, all it needs is people not being brainwashed by religion. Without religious brainwashing science will never be seen as an enemy. There are literally Christian lunatics that think science and reason are the work of the devil.

      So true... part of the reason I'm an atheist is because of my parents approach to teaching me religion. I was never afraid of the monster under my bed, because the real one existed in my mind. Every time I did something bad (I couldn't help myself,it was my nature as a child) I would crawl under this table in the corner of my living room that was closed off on 3 sides by 2 walls and the side of the couch. I would start sobbing and rocking back and forth, crying and repeating things like "I accept Jesus into my heart", "I want to follow Jesus", "I don't want to go to hell", and "please don't send me to hell please don't .. I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry" over and over again. Why? I was told I was inherently a sinner, a bad child,( because I was human)and I would burn for all eternity if I wasn't a Christian. It terrified me, the I death of eternal torture. I wasn't more than 6 or 7 at the time, and I think it's left some emotional issues that I'm not completely over. If my parents had been more cautious, maybe this wouldn't have happened. Religion is not a bad thing, unless it's turned into a scare tactic, then we need to talk.

    Wow. Your point about the codemning of homosexuality leading to less faith is spot on, at least for me. About three years ago, I started getting online and met some homosexuals. For no reason, I had this negative feeling for them because of my religon and I asked myself why. A lot of the time I became friends first and found out about their sexuality later, and they seemed like fine people. Why am I told to dislike these people? 2 years later, at 14 years old, I became an atheist. That one point got me thinking.

    • @merry6671
      @merry6671 7 лет назад +1

      Xera 51 That is a pretty stupid view. "and they seemed like fine people". I think the hate towards any group is rarely founded on their social image or skills. There are plenty of terrible figures with whom you could have laughed about what their dog did in the garden last day, but it is not this that is at question. It's the specific point they are critisized on, ranging from nazi's, facists, homosexuality, et cetera. In this case where the boy puts his weiner in; not how much fun you have with him on the couch.
      (took the homo example in boys form for simplicitly)

      "There are plenty of terrible figures with whom you could have laughed about what their dog did in the garden last day, but it is not this that is at question" I don't know what that means to be honest.
      My line of reasoning was:
      >God is just.
      >If God is just, and he sends homosexuals to hell, then homosexuality must be wrong.
      >Why is homosexuality wrong?
      I was then unable to find a valid reason, which then lead to further questioning.

    • @merry6671
      @merry6671 7 лет назад +2

      Xera 51 It's about where they put their weiner. That is again the point that is criticized and you made the argument that you didn't understood why you should hate them because they were kind. It was because of the weiner thing obviously. That was the point.

    • @xera5196
      @xera5196 7 лет назад +4

      My original comment was showing how I got to the question, not that it's good reasoning. Since I perceived homosexuality as a sin, I came to the conclusion that homosexuals would be bad people (Which is fallacious reasoning), but when I came to meet kind people who happened to be homosexuals, I questioned myself. Keep in mind this is when I was 12 and didn't understand that it's about criticizing ideas and not individuals.

He has video after video calling liberal and left-leaning politicians morons and liars without actually sustaining those claims. His rise to fame came off the back of going to college campuses, debating young and inexperienced college students (when he is a graduate of Harvard Law School), reducing their ideas and beliefs to strawman positions, and then acting as though the entire liberal/left are crazy and immoral bad people. You're stating your views Ben, some have credible evidence and some don't, and sometimes the evidence is flawed. Only if he is attacked or he feels it is being misrepresented. He even said for himself that he doesn't use religion or the Bible scripture to argue against anything when it corns to politics because people are free to have their own beliefs and he only argues for what works and not just mere beliefs and that in the end using the Bible for "an argument" is a logical fallacy, argument from authority. #SHAPIRO2024 lol

      Mikey DiCiero umm yes they can actually. Most of the scientist you mentioned lived centuries ago, and eventhough they were smart, they lacked the knowledge that we now have. Newton didnt know crap about black holes, or quantum physics, or even evolution and I dont blame him. That information wasnt at his disposal at that time. So yeah anyone living today could easily hand his ass to him on debate.
      You also didnt get what I was trying to say. I was referring to the fact that when debating theism, skeptics have an easier position to defend. Atheist have a more favorable position because their stance is supported by evidence, unlike theism that has to proof a mere, (and already debunked) belief.
