    When the primers don't work (stick down and stay down) I usually replace the carb. I'm glad you got lucky. I have the same unit in my garage that someone gave me years ago, just have no time to fiddle around with it. I might buy a brush cutter blade and convert it.

    Thanks for the video. I took my FS 85 Extreme apart and replaced a cracked cylinder, trying to recall where 4 black screws are to be re inserted after a 2 week layoff of working on it?

    What did you set your High RPM at? in the manual is says:
    -"Max. speed of output shaft (cutting tool mounting) 7,500 rpm"
    -"Engine cutoff speed (nominal): 10,500 rpm"
    10,500 rpm seems high. i'm not sure what to set mine at. Any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

      This is from the Stihl Service Manual
      Max. permissible engine speed is
      9500 +/- 800 rpm
      Idle speed: 2800 +/- 300 rpm
      Hope this helps

    check the duckbill valve on the gas cap, it should just pull off with the cord. Then again, for 5 or 10 bucks, throw a Stens aftermarket cap on it

    • @craigtimmons3468

      I got the cap apart and the duck bill was gooey just like all the other rubber parts

    should be a big metal spacer between the carb and air filter box with gaskets on each side kind of like a heat shield for the plastic air box

      No Compression?
      Scored stuck rings, broken rod, hole in piston?
      If its scored determine what caused it before throwing parts at it.

    Great vid. How do you set the idle and low screws when you're putting the carb back together? I'm just looking for a base setting to get it running then I'll adjust. Or is there an ideal setting for it regardless?

    • @craigtimmons3468
      @craigtimmons3468  4 года назад +1

      The Hi jet 1 to 1 1/4 turns out
      Low jet 3/4 to1 turn out
      Idle setting while watching the throttle blade turn setting out till blade is fully closed then turn in until there is a small gap on the blade 1/32 to maybe 1/16" this all can be done with the carb on or off the engine
      Just remember these settings are only ballpark.

      @@craigtimmons3468 thank you for the inductions! I can't find a high screw on my Stihl FS85 carb. Only low and idle. I'll adjust them as you've said

    • @craigtimmons3468
      @craigtimmons3468  4 года назад

      @@ldzmn Yours may be the EPA model carb with no Hi adjustment, If your blower won't run right at high speed there are aftermarket carbs available, One place I like to use is www.huztl.net and they do have a carb available part number PJBG8601.
      Give it aftermarket parts may not be as good as OEM but you will get the Hi adjuster on the aftermarket carb and I've had really good luck with Huztl parts I'd say 70% or a bit better.
      Good Luck

    • @craigtimmons3468
      @craigtimmons3468  5 лет назад

      It literary passed right over where I live touching down about 5 miles out of town, then there was another one that touched down where I work but only up rooted trees, twisted some scaffolding up like bread ties, tipped over semis and knocked down lots of power lines, this one was about 8 miles from the house.
      Close calls but only 1 person injured and lots of property damage houses,garages,barns and vehicles tore up.

    Where did you get your parts? Are they genuine stihl parts for the carb rebuild?

    • @craigtimmons3468
      @craigtimmons3468  Год назад +1

      For carb kits I will use nothing but OEM Parts.
      I more than likely purchased this kit from an EBAY store, just search for your kit and make SURE it's an OEM Kit.
      You can also try Amazon and your local dealer or repair shop.
      The FS85 Trimmers were produced and sold new with one of 2 Zama Carbs
      Carb. Zama Kit #
      C1Q-S28C RB-69
      C1Q-S41A RB-85

      @@craigtimmons3468 thank you! This is majorly helpful. Now to try and find out which model Zama carb I got. Should it say somewhere on the carb?

    • @craigtimmons3468
      @craigtimmons3468  Год назад

      @@willdubeast88 Yes it's will, look on the sides of the carb if its a true Zama you will see C1Q and one of the other numbers if it not been swapped out with another carb, if it has been swapped out then I would go with the RB-66 kit for the C1Q-S28 dropping the letter off the end.

    • @willdubeast88
      @willdubeast88 Год назад +1

      @@craigtimmons3468 I found the number on my carb. It is a Zama C1Q with two other sets of numbers on the side reading S69A and right below it 322A. This doesn’t match exactly with either of the carb models you listed above. These numbers look most similar to the C1Q-S41A that you listed. So I will probably go with that. My fs 85 also looks newer than yours so I assume it’s a later model.

    Ok. Im not an expert. But about 90 percent of cheap chinese weedeater problems are due to carb and fuel line problems. Looks to me like the exalted stihl has pretty much the same problems. Tell me again why stihl thinks we should pay fve times as much for their product? Honestly, I do like stihl products, but they need to get off their high horse and price their products more competitively.

    • @craigtimmons3468
      @craigtimmons3468  5 лет назад

      They charge 5 times more because people keep paying there price,
      This Stihl unit had been in storage for 10+ years more than likely with ethanol gas in the tank at the beginning and this is what caused the rubber components to deteriorate.
