Who else knows that pidgin also has some Portuguese elements and vocabulary? The Portuguese trade ships were some of the first to arrive on our shores. They mostly traded with the coastal communities. They named Lagos because of the Lagoon and after the city in there country, the original Lagos. The word Sabi (to know) is from Portuguese; so is Pickin ( child).

The pidgin English is a creole like the one you guys used to have in Lousiana, Haiti, Jamaica, Dominica and other Countries where the local people made up foreign languages for local understanding. The English version is spoken in Countries like Nigeria, Cameroon, Sierra Leone, Ghana and some pockets of people from Liberia. There is also a French version in the French speaking African Countries.

Ageg can also be used to say, "I don't care." People usually say 'abeg eeee', in cases like when someone reports you to the principal and you can be like "abeg eeeee" with some attitude meaning you don't care

    • @HeleenHenstock

Lol. U killed me with my husband is kampe and my wife has kampe mind. Most times kampe ends a sentence. Example: my husband dey kampe, meaning my husband is solid. My wife mind dey kampe.
But not all d time it ends a sentence. Eg I dey kampe well well, I am very solid. My own dey kampe pass hin own. Meaning mine is more solid that his/or hers.
*'hin' in pidgin has possessive property and can be for both genders, and comes b4 d noun d person is possessing. In the example above it means his own or her own
Another example is 'my car fine pass hin car, or my car fine pass hin own'. U can guess the meaning
