    Hi Jibran, Thank you for such an informative video.
    I have a question. Lets say, you bought your laptop for €600 approx and got back €380 in one year and €220 the next year. So for 1st year tax return:
    did you write the whole amount(€600) and THEY only returned €380 and carry forward the remaining €220 by THEMSELVES?
    (OR)
    did YOU only write €380 for 1st year and then €220 the next year?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Jibran,
    hope you are doing well!
    I just started my job and wanted to apply for the tax return. I came here to Germany in 2019. So I tried to apply for 2019, 20, 21 and 22. When I was applying for 2019 in Wundertax, it showed that I needed to do a compulsory assessment; when I added the Verletzgeld that I received during my first job at amazon, I got injured, and AOK paid me around 640 Euros. What should I do in this situation? What is this compulsory assessment?
    Apart from that I have another question, where should I add the travel cost when I come for the first time to Germany.
    Thaks in advance.

    ===========================================================
    A small addition recommended by a facebook user Faraz H. I will mention this stuff also in the next part of this video and also share my tax return.
    When do you have to pay tax in Germany?
    If your taxable income (more to this later) exceeds 9000€ single and 18000€ married in a calendar year. You pay tax
    For 2019 the tax-free allowance has increased to 9168€ single and 18336€ married per annum.
    Do students earn tax-free or get everything back?
    No, students also have to pay tax if their income is above tax-free allowance.
    When is the deadline to file a return?
    - May 31 of the following year for compulsory filers (people who had more than 1 source of income, who changed job, where the spouse is also working)
    - Four years for non-compulsory filers
    Why is tax deducted, why to file the return, and what is taxable income?
    Your HR knows how much your monthly payment is and how much you will get paid in one particular year so they deduct tax monthly assuming it will stay the same and this is your actual taxable income and forward it to tax office. They also know if you are married or have kids, etc and consider these factors to have it more accurate.
    What tax office or your HR doesn't know are your werbungskosten (tax or work related expenses) like your monthly travel tickets to work, a laptop and a chair you bought for working from home or money you sent to your parents. So the main goal is to show maximum expenses to reduce your taxable income.
    E.g.: you earned 24000€ in 1 year and your HR deducted tax from your salary monthly seeing you earn 2000€. So your tax was deducted from 24000€. Now you file return and show that you sent 3000€ to your parents, you moved from one city to another and paid 2000€ for the transportation and renovation of a new place, you bought books, computers and paid for online courses another 2000€.
    So now you request by filing a return to the tax office to recalculate your return by deducting these expenses. So now if all expenses are accepted, the tax office will calculate the tax on your new taxable income (i.e. 24000-3000-2000-2000-tax free allowance-child free allowance, etc.) and give you back the difference.
    Can students claim their study costs of past years after they finish the study and start working (as the guy is suggesting in the video)?
    Not directly. They have to carry losses of every year forward to the next year (Verlustvortrag). That means if a student had study-related expenses and didn't earn in that year, he/she can file a Verlustvortrag and carry these expenses to next year and then to next year and then to another one for seven years (not four) and as soon as you earn good money you can take these expenses to that year.
    Keep in mind if you are a bachelor student, the chances are very low to carry your losses forward.
    You can carry only study-related costs to another year and not e.g. money you sent to parents.
    To carry forward your losses you have to file a tax return for each year like a normal tax filer with the same forms.
    How about sites like germantax.de?
    I know of many people who actually had no expense at all and did try to calculate return through online sites and it showed them back payment although they were suppose to get a return. I would never recommend someone to use these sites. You can always go to Lohnsteuerhilfeverein in your city to get it done cheaper.
    What costs can you add to lower your taxable income?
    Basic principle: Everything which has a connection to your work can be added as werbungskosten. If you buy a tie and suit to attend your friend's wedding, it is not accepted but if you buy a tie and a suit because you work in sales, bingo.
    The costs related to your studies (because studies are also connected to career), the money you sent home, charity, double household (if your spouse is living in another country), cost of family reunion, etc. are Sonderausgaben/Außergewöhnliche Belastung. Which can be added to tax declaration as well.

    Very informative brother. For the letter from Finanzamt the one that they send to your address within 3 to 10 weeks. What if we change the address during that time?

    • @DesiInWonderland

      Actually the same thing happened to me ... I changed my address after submitting my tax return... so If you already changed your address in the city then finanzamt database will also update automatically.. but to be on the safe side, you can still send them a email stating that you have changed your address....

    Thank you so much for these three informative videos. There is still something unclear for me, sorry if you explained it but I didn't get it!
    The question is:
    If the tax return you want to file is less than the Lohnsteuer you have paid, does it mean you will only get back at most to the amount of Lohnsteuer you have paid?!
    For example, say in Company's Lohnsteuerbescheinigung I have something like this: Brutto income 15,000: € , paid Lohnsteuer: 400€ , Employer Rentenversischerung: 1,400€, Employee Rentenversischerung 1,400€, Health Insurance 1,600€ , and I am filing a Valid amount of 2000 euros for that year, does it mean they will only pay 400 euros back maximum? Or it is still possible to get all the 2000 euros back?
    Or is that the reason why you said you'd better file the tax return after your studies are over and when you have found a job? Is it because they can then move the overflow (carry the losses) to the year you are working full-time and paying decent Lohnsteuer?

    • @DesiInWonderland
      @DesiInWonderland  4 года назад +2

      You undertood it correct ... That's why I said it is wise to apply for tax returns after your studies... Well now to answer your questiion. If your decalared tax returns are more than the Lohnsteuer you've paid then they carry your remaining tax returns to the next year as a Verlustvortrag and you can get them back with next year's tax return.... I hope this clears your confusion...

    Thanks for the information. I did my masters from 2018- 2020. I didn’t work then. Now I have a job from Feb 2020. So, while filling the form, what should I write about income or tax deductions for the year 2018-2020?
    Thanks

    During student life usually theres a question that why is it necessary to inform the 2nd employer if you already are employed at some other mini job, is it related to tax or what? What's wrong with having two jobs at same time provided you don't exceed 20hrs/week during semester and 40hrs/week during semester break.

    • @DesiInWonderland
      @DesiInWonderland  5 лет назад +1

      Yes ... if you are doing two jobs and you are single then in your first job, your tax category will be 1 and in the second job, your tax category will be 6 ( which is the category for the second job ) ... and you pay more taxes if your tax category is 6..

    ASW bhai
    do we mention the semester ticket cost every time I moved.
    For example from Jan till March, I lived 14 kms away from Uni and Library (378 Sem ticket/year), and then Apr till Dec I lived 6 km away from Uni and Library (378ticket cost/year.).
    Then in Sep Oct I worked in Uni (378 ticket cost) and Nov Dec I worked away from Uni(378 again).
    I think it should be mentioned once. But I am not sure where. I read comments but none were a match. Can you please clarify bhai.

    • @DesiInWonderland
      @DesiInWonderland  4 года назад +1

      Well if you have a yearly ticket of the same city then you can just add it once only with the first place of stay... rest of your places of stay, you can add them separately but don't add this yearly ticket in each entry of stay

    Question: Suppose if I have moved to Germany in the last quarter or mid of 2017. While filling for the tax returns(with the website you shared) where do you indicate that you have been in Germany for only one quarter or xyz duration of 2017?

    • @DesiInWonderland
      @DesiInWonderland  5 лет назад +1

      If you have moved to Germany in the middle or last quarter of the year then it doesn't matter because finanzamt will know when you moved to Germany on the basis of your first city registration. ... So you don't have to mention it anywhere... :)

    AoA. Thank you for the informative video. I worked for three months in 2019 and earnt about 8600€. What do you recommend? Should I apply from the website you mentioned or personally. Also if you can guide me in this matter. I went to Pakistan for internship for which I have to buy the plan ticket also. Can I add that amount in the expenses or not besides the tuition fee etc.

    • @DesiInWonderland
      @DesiInWonderland  4 года назад

      Wasalam ... You can do it yourself but as you didn't earn enough in 2019 then you might not get everything back, instead of that your tax claim will go in minus (Verlusvortrag) and you will get them with 2020 tax returns... So it is upto you .. Either claim it now or in 2020...
      About the internship, Yes! you can add all the travelling expenses in the internship section of the your tax claim form... I think I mentioned that in my videos as well.......
