The amazing thing is all it took for the officer to remember was the kid saying, “1997.” That shows you how much of an impact that made on that officer. Over the length of his career and all the things he’s seen and done, he still remembers that day so well. Awesome.
It does impact them hard. In 2007 i was in brazillian jiu-jitsu class. I asked my buddy whoes a fire fighter how his weekend was. He said "not good, i lost 2 people" an elderly lady died from being hit and a little boy drown in their pool. He was the first on scene and couldnt save them. We just sat in the corner in our gi's and talked for the first half of the class.
In that moment, he wasn't hugging a grown man. He was embracing that little 5 year old kid, and every day since he wondered what happened to him. Seeing him as an adult reinforced the life changing action he took
@@Matt-pd2cq Maybe so (astute of you, if so) but maybe the officer read much more in the dudes eyes; eyes don't can't lie when they are in a moment like that for '97 drowning baby". :)
when he puts his chin into his shoulder and tightens his grip... that's love. that's humanity in all its glory. that's the only thing that really matters - love
Being someone who deals with crippling clinical depression & anxiety every day, seeing these types of videos, reminds me of how much love & beauty there stull is in this world! ❤️
When I was 5 I fell into a 1m deep pit with a fire in it where my neighbours were burning off all their dead grapevines... It was a particularly hot summer and they made the pit so that the fire wouldn't spread. Most exciting thing for the kids in the neighbourhood. Anyway, my neighbour saved me, but we moved away and she passed away before I could have thanked her myself. It took a few years before I understood that she had saved my life. This is a beautiful reunion, I wish I could have thanked my saviour as well now that I'm grown up.

I was once on a family vacation when i was 8 years old. I woke up early in the morning and went to the resort pool. I was tall enough to stand at the 3 feet area but i slowly drifted towards deeper part of the pool and began drowning. Nobody was there. Out of nowhere a lady walks in and saved me life. I got out and ran back to the room and didn’t tell my parents anything knowing how mad they would’ve been knowing i snuck out and went into the pool unsupervised. To this day I wish I could’ve thanked her as an adult. I wouldn’t be alive without her.
A year late but fuck it, the officer was right, "We are ALL here to help each other.". You do not need a uniform to help. Officer Poole is a hero but we all can change a life. God and Jesus willing we all can.
Awesome stuff officer. Just doin his job. For this man to have that kind of moment meeting the man that saved his life is a testament to the impact one man had on another.
When he said that his son was about a year older than this boy was, I’m sure he went home after his shift that day, after saving that boy, and held his boy tighter than he ever had before. It didn’t take him but 3 seconds of that young man saying “in 1997….” And he knew exactly what he was talking about.
for the police officer it was just a day at work, doing his job. for that man it was the moment that decided if his family, his legacy, will exist. if there will be a future for him. I doubt many people can understand. every human being, not just you, feels the exact same way. has thoughts all the time. doubts. opinions. has to make decisions and, all of those lifes, ..... they end. this man got a second chance and this will bond them forever. owing someone your life doesn't mean you "owe" them per se. its nothing you repay. its a bond that goes way above any material debt. only emotions and love can repay the debt and its a debt you happily repay.
It’s crazy to know you saved a life. I hope I get a chance to save somebody life. And if I did already and don’t know it.. thank you God for using me in a good way.

Oh thing about the cop's professionalism... unexpectedly, a younger and larger male comes up behind him and puts his hand on him. His immediate response is to act in a calm, friendly and respectful manner. No aggression, no escalation, no panic.
because you dont know what defunding the police means. it means reduce the workload the police has, take those responsibility (and the connected funds) from them and let the police do its core business - protecting people. theres way more time to save drowning kids if police officers arent used for things they shouldnt be involved in.

The officer was interrupted, yet he was the first one to put his hand out to shake '97 drowning baby's hand and called him sir. What a guy.
your right but im sorry '97 drowning baby' got me laughing
My guess is he wanted to make sure that hand was empty because he couldn't see it on the other side of his body
