Band BIO
Babymetal (Japanese: ベビーメタル, Hepburn: Bebīmetaru) (stylized in all caps) is a Japanese kawaii metal band. The band consists of Suzuka Nakamoto as "Su-metal" (Vocal and Dance) and Moa Kikuchi as "Moametal" (Scream and Dance). The band is produced by Kobametal from the Amuse talent agency. Their vocals are backed by heavy metal instrumentation, performed by a group of session musicians known as the "Kami Band" at performances.
The band was formed in 2010, with the original lineup of Su-metal (Vocal and Dance), Moametal (Scream and Dance), and Yui Mizuno as "Yuimetal" (Scream and Dance), with the concept of creating a fusion of the heavy metal and Japanese idol genres. Originally a sub-unit of the Japanese idol group Sakura Gakuin, Babymetal became an independent act in 2013, following Nakamoto's departure from Sakura Gakuin. Babymetal released their eponymous debut album in February 2014. Their second album Metal Resistance was released worldwide on April 1, 2016. Babymetal has also embarked on several tours, with a majority of their tour dates taking place outside of Asia.
On October 19, 2018, Babymetal announced that Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal) had decided to leave the band due to poor health, following her absence from live performances since December 2017. Since her departure, the band has performed with one or more backup dancers at live performances. In 2019, the band introduced three backup dancers called Avengers who performed in rotation at each live show to form a trio with Moametal and Su-metal.
FUN FACTS about band::
Kobametal, the band's producer and long-time heavy metal enthusiast, started planning to launch an idol/heavy metal fusion group in 2009 after he was impressed by Suzuka Nakamoto's performance with her previous group, Karen Girl's, thinking she was suitable to be the lead vocalist for the new group. The band was formed in 2010 in Tokyo, Japan,] as the heavy music club (重音部, Jūonbu), or sub-unit, of the female idol group Sakura Gakuin, which was also newly formed that year.[5] The band's name is a combination of "baby" (ベビー, bebī) and "heavy metal" (ヘビーメタル, hebī metaru), and the Japanese pronunciation rhymes with "heavy metal".According to Kobametal, Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi were added to complement Nakamoto's "unique stage presence" with their smaller statures, dancing around her "like angels". None of the three members were familiar with metal music before the inception of the band.

For "Metal Resistance" this also goes the other way around, because "From Dusk Till Dawn is at least equally awesome!

@@Inosuke_Hashibira75 It's hard to say generally because personal tastes differ a lot. In my opinion, both songs are at least as equal as good and it clearly depends on my mood which one I prefer. But "From Dusk Till Dawn" has one advantage over "Syncopation": It's highly unconventional. In this regard, it's in the same league as "BxMxC".

That's one of the songs that just end too quickly. Absolutely love it! The instrumentation, the relentless pace... awesome! I'm a guitarist, too, and I love the guitar work in this song. The solos are short, but technically insane and with great taste. And Ohmura is the perfect man to play them.

'Syncopation' is a killer high energy track.
Pretty much a flawless blend of guitars and vocals.
This is what producer Koba said in a 2016 interview:
Q: Of all the songs in this album wouldn’t you say that ‘Syncopation’ has the most Japanese feel to it?
Kobametal: Yes, I would agree to that.
And that is why on the overseas edition we put a different song in its place.
On the Japanese edition we wanted to present an ever more Japanese quality to it and so this song was included.
On the overseas edition in place of ‘Syncopation’ we have instead included the song ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’.
Man, I wonder if that song is just as good???
@@dicodec Overall, I prefer 'Syncopation', but I feel blessed to have been in the audience the first and only time that 'From Dusk Till Dawn' was performed. That was at the Hollywood Palladium in 2017.

Perhaps less eclectic than their norm, but sooo tasty a song, every part is a hook. My fav version is from the Tokyo Dome dvd (perhaps the first that was available stateside?), the camerawork on the dance is really good, and that heartbeat intro seemed more intense...
It’s one of their only teen themed songs, as opposed to hide n seek, getting ready for school, being a responsible woman, slaying demons, etc, this one is the crazy emotions of first love. But still high quality, even the translation is poetic, as far as I know, like/dislike is something like plucking flower petals “he loves me, he loves me not”

Syncopation is a very special song...when i see a whole BM concert and they play Syncopation i usaly miss the next two songs cause my mind is still flying around im some dreamland . It just happens like it's said in the lyrics.

Okay, who was watching Su's dancing. She is precise and in sync right with Moa and Yui. PLUS she's singing! Their physical fitness is at the Olympic Athlete level and Su's breathe control is unreal. Remember they are doing this for 80 to 90 minutes!!

Thats a good point...I've loved this song since I first heard it for years but there was always something about it I couldn't quite figure out that sounded special compared to their other great songs and I think thats it. It does seem to have a bit of that older city pop vibe to it but its masked so well within the badass riffs that I never realized it.

@@crypticmisery7996 If I remember correctly it wasn't filmed by an Amuse-team. But I really can't remember other details. However, this also is the reason they can't include it in the 10th-anniversary best-of release (which will hold a DVD/Blu-Ray in some variants).

I guess I have some less common favs when it comes to Babymetal. Amore, Syncopation, Akatsuki. I love these 3 so much. I haven't listened to them for the last 3 years due to their change in sound but man these still bring back memories.

Good idea, they should react to those three back to back to back since they are meant to go together. IMO its also easily the highlight of Metal Galaxy.
Among the deep fans Syncopation is the favorite song on the second album together with Road of Resistance and YAVA!. It's such an awesome track but a bit obscure because it has not an official RUclips video with a normal performance that doesn't get blocked. So many layers being awesome at the same time, that song.

This song is an homage to very Japanese pop/rock, so the producer thought it would sound so Japanese that it was hard to travel, that was the reason why he made this a bonus track for METAL RESISTANCE Japanese Edition. You know, he was wrong!

This song was only Japanese exclusive on their 2nd album "Metal Resistance". This is really a kick ass song! Great songwriting as well. I'm always amazed on how BABYMETAL production team write their songs.

I was very lucky to hear this at Brixton Academy in London last year, the first time they played this outside of Japan. The place went nuts when we heard that opening riff. Couldn't believe what we were being blessed with.

Haha...they are playing 10 shows in 2021 at the legendary Budokan ...I think Japan is gonna open up travel for Westerners again in March...fingers crossed. I'm definitely gonna try to go to see one of the shows. Not just because its BABYMETAL but I've always wanted to catch a concert at that venue.

Japan is the #2 music market in the world and most companies don't bother with the rest of the world. Too much cost and time. Such as Japan CD's don't play on our machines, meaning a separate run. After all we are only aware of a few bands, while there are hundreds of bands in Japan.
A band I was made aware of is King Gnu, I was told they are Japans #1 band, check them out.

Syncopation is my favorite Babymetal song. It was an exclusive track on the Japan release version of Metal Resistance. I believe the audio for this compilation video was taken from Su-metal's 20th birthday show (Legend - S) in her hometown of Hiroshima, though I think my favorite live version is from Moa's 20th birthday show (Legend - M) in her hometown Nagoya.

I often hated when people says every Japanese music is like an anime intro, but this one really do feels like an anime intro for me, like, a REALLY GREAT anime intro. It has the "japanese" sounds to it, I can't even describe it, but it feels so different from mainstream sounds from the western hemisphere you know.
