It would be great if Mathias could make a video about the rubbers and blades he recommends for different levels of players. Keep the nice work with the videos!

The secret to hitting the receive short is to make contact with the ball AS SOON AS IT BOUNCES on your side. Don't worry about putting spin on it, as that is not the point. The point is to play it short and low.
In the part where you're both wearing red-ish coloured shirts and you're practicing pushing short, you are wayyyyy too late when you make contact. To keep it short and low you must be MUCH earlier than that. Also, it would be wise of you to practice pushing it to the correct spots too, and you should push that ball into the middle. You do this because you don't want to give your opponent good angles should you mess up your receive. Also, the distance from there to the middle is farther than the distance from there to where you're putting it, which means that it's easier to keep it shorter when playing it to the middle. I understand that you were practicing pushing, then following it with ground strokes. But, I suggest that you 1. Have your partner serve each one for real. And 2. Play your receives like you would in a real match and try to keep him from playing 3rd ball attacks. Then, if he pushes and you can attack it, then you'll have to learn how to anticipate whether or not he's going to push it to you long enough and/or high enough for you to attack. Then, when you can attack it, you'll be forced to quickly recover and get into position to attack. And also, whenever you play a push that he can attack, you'll have to read it and get into position to counter it or block it. Doing this will give you both more overall practice.
And you know, it's even more effective of a drill when you have him play 2 different serves, so that you don't automatically know where each one is going to go. In this particular case, you could have him alternate between 2 locations, but use the same spin on the serve. Then, you can have him play to the same location, but play 2 different spins on the serve.
Remember: Training to where you already know where you have to move and what is coming next really does you no good because in a match you're going to have to make good reads first every single time. So, whenever you train, you must always train to where you always have to make a good read FIRST before you move. The way you keep that in your training is by always having at least a second option for your partner to play whenever they see fit. That way, it's never just the one thing over and over to where you don't have to make a read before you move. That way, you have to get good at FORCING your opponent to do something, which makes you able to read the play wayyyy ahead of time. And that's a major skill which will increase your level of play the most.

Will try the earlier contact form short short, thx. I am still very much a beginner so we focus on the fundamentals a lot. In my own sessions I include a lot of irregular things. Maybe Mathias finds time to reply as well. Already hard to keep up with the comments. We read them all and ate very happy to get so many of them, but answering is another thing, takes a lot of time. Cheers!

Raise your heals a little as much as possible. Lower more forward stance. Both these will raise your game 30%

I dont think training short-short is that important until 1600+ since at 1400 most ppl push a lot still and mostly only open up on one side so u have plenty of time still to open up first.
As for servers u ofc should have one that is really short, low and backspinny but you will generate most points with good, fast, long serves with spin variations that are hard to read so ether the opponent tries to attack and fail often or he pushes giving u and kinda easy 3rd Ball that u can train killing.

We don’t do it all that often for now. The ppl I play with almost never do it and I am able to get quite some points bc they wait for a half long or even long ball to attack. In the backhand I try to only flip or topspin anyways. Serves is a really interesting and very important topic for me. Right now I am focusing on my long serves in the bh and short backspin serve only. I want to develop an easy but effective system that is working almost like a cheat on that low level 💪🏼. Looking good so far but I want to get a ton more reps in before the new season starts. I use that always now until I face higher level players that know how to handle it.
