Kind of. Those certainly are characteristics of O’Brien's surfing. But in Red Bull’s "Body of Work," we actually learn HOW he surfs. As in, what makes his surfing physically possible.
Take his 2014 board transfer at Wedge - a mutant of a wave you’ve surely heard of. Like most new things, the feat seemed relatively impossible until someone goes out there and does it. In this case, it was O’Brien. Now here’s the science behind what happened.

I agree! I watch all Jamie's videos and he's one of the best surfers alive but the stats here aren't factual at all. The stats are just made up, he wasn't being monitored for speed, g-forces or time. It was just a dramatic breakdown for people who don't surf.
The Jones it’s basic physics... you can figure out someone’s g force with a simple formula. And he was probably also wearing a rip curl watch. Red bull dies their research.
87.5% probability that all the numbers stated in this video is toootal bullshit. Doesn't take away from JOB being an awesome surfer. But numbers are BS

I think that stat was BS because when he was shown going 3-5 mph, he was already locked in. And also the wave moving adds to that speed so its not like he has to do the same as 8mph in a pool.

I watched this video to see how he got out the back with 2 surfboards. And I'm still wondering how after watching the video. Thx redbull for all the stats tho.
The waves there break right on shore so not really hard to get out (maybe it wasn’t easy this day tho)
The stats were just made up for dramatic effect. He wasn't monitored for speed, g-forces, or time. It was definitely an insane board transfer but statistically it is incorrect.

Oh it was intense but the editor of the video lied about all the stats. He never hit 4gs and the speed wasn't monitored. It was all a lie to make it dramatic. It was an impressive wave and transfer but it's unfortunate that someone felt the need to make up lies and pass it off as a scientific breakdown
If you were there that day and didn't know who Jamie O'Brien was or what he was doing, after he caught that wave and switched boards you would be like... What the F did I just see?

It's all fun and games till the board you ditch knocks somebody unconscious and they drown... Anybody that's been plowed to the temple by a runaway board knows what I'm talking about

He doesn’t experience gravitational forces of 4gs. That doesn’t make sense. He experiences an accelerating force equivalent to 4 times gravity. Gravity isn’t really a force we feel it is a curvature of space time. Maybe get a scientist to make up the facts for videos like this.

Definitely not!! All the stats were made up by someone who edits videos. He was never monitored for speed or g-forces. It's all made up for dramatic effect. I don't see why they feel like they need to lie because it's super impressive without the made-up stats.
