    I just watched them over lake ontario, on a perfect day. I'm a guy from the hood, full of tattoos and these legends brought me to sobbing tears. Good god, the power and grace, the risk... it's art. I'd never seen an airshow before. You have all my respect and admiration, forever.

    Sadly we just lost one of our beloved Snowbirds yesterday in what appears to be an engine related accident. While both occupants were able to eject they were extremely close to, if not outside of the safe range of operation for the use of the planes ejection system. No chutes were seen deploying in the video footage that we have.
    I came here to watch one of their shows in the hopes of lifting my spirits, and ended up crying through the whole video. Thank you for posting it and thank you Snowbirds for always making a Canadian proud.

    When I visited my relatives during the summer in Moose Jaw I loved watching the Snowbirds Practise their maneuvers almost everyday either out the large front window or from outside. It was like having a front row seat. Your 2016 show was up to it's usual high standards! Amazing formations and incredible maneuvers .. Thank you!

    I saw them perform at Huntington Beach, CA along with the Blue Angels in 2017.
    They were truly on top of their game. I actually enjoyed their performance more than the Blue Angels.
    That's not to say that the Blue Angels sucked, faaaar from it. The Blue Angels were incredible!
    The Canadian team simply displayed a higher precision air show.
    Probably because of the lower airspeed and more maneuverable aircraft. Very impressive.

      I promise, like you wouldn't believe, way better then half the crap videos on the net. that's just the snow birds, there's chinooks, Hercules, Ukraine plains, apaches, no games, just trustworthy people doing real things, like an old play ground, I think back now after a week of venting things and begging for answers, every time I stood near or was invited to such powerful sights and opportunities, not once was it destructive, it was just people really trying to keep the family together and share memories and have a bite to eat. enjoying life and not trying to destroy it even tho you might be sitting next to a display of guns and millions of rounds, to sit next to destructive materials, and choose peace and family time, was true power. to be able to laugh at what COULD BE, and be alive at the same time that's true power.

    The Canadian Snowbirds have more skilled pilots than the American Blue Angels. The formations they fly are much more complex and difficult than the maneuvers the Americans perform.

    • @BullGator-kd6ge
      @BullGator-kd6ge 5 лет назад +4

      I can kinda agree with that. The Blues and the Birds are much more flashier and noisier. Though strangely those tutor planes the Snowbirds use are pretty noisy, they are much more elegant in their maneuvers.

    • @BullGator-kd6ge
      @BullGator-kd6ge 5 лет назад +1

      @sparky12x Yeah thats true but using aircraft mainly used for tutoring can be very effective. The Red Arrows use the BAE Hawk , the Breitling Jet Team uses the L-39 Albatross, the Frecce Tricolori uses the MB 339, Patroulle de France uses the Dornier Alpha Jet... I could go on, Though using frontline fighters is cool, they can't preform the complex maneuvers that lightweight trainers can.

      tђє ςคยϟє ๏Ŧ ฬєt קคภtเєϟ I agree. I've seen the Snowbirds fly several times. IMO they put on a better show than the Blues, and the T birds are like watching paint dry in comparison. BTW I'm an American.

    • @siouxperb5570
      @siouxperb5570 5 лет назад

      If that's an attempt at humor, it fell short. Here's how to sum up the Snowbirds: They flew at a US show I was at about 15 years ago. They performed in the middle of the show, around 1pm, a time slot reserved for a secondary act. Most of the crowd couldn't even be bothered to watch, they were getting concessions, or piss break, or just chatting amongst themselves during the Snowbird demo, as it is quite boring, comparatively speaking. The airshow headliner was the USAF West Coast F-16 demonstration. The crowd jammed the fenceline when the F-16 demo started. When a single ship demo can upstage the entire Snowbirds 9 aircraft routine, that says a lot. And it's pretty sad.

      They are spare jets but also carry the communications team member and the show announcer. They also arrive early to scout locations.
      All equipment and spares are carried in the 11 planes. They are 2 seaters so the mechanics fly with their pilot, each with a different specialty. They do not have a supply plane follow them.

      Funny during the Osh show the same year one of the planes did hit a bird during the routine. Broke off and landed asap.
      He jumped into one of the spare jets and the team was back to the 9 ship formations 10 minutes later.
      Quite the cheer from the crowd when they saw him taking off to jump back into the show. :)

    Wonderful comments from so many people. Do they all understand how much it costs our government every year to keep them operational? If not - do the research. These old Tutors are now obsolete and may be retired in December of this year. The government may replace them. Do these people understand how much it will cost us, the taxpayers, to replace them? If not - do the research. The money that could be spent on this form of entertainment at this time of crisis is absolutely outrageous. It’s time to rethink the Snowbirds.

      Every time I hear or read something about how outrageous the cost of these kind of things is, I'm tempted to reply by reminding the commenter of the outrageous waste of money that governments commit on an everyday basis. Graft, corruption, waste. Before commenting on how outrageous the expense that this is, first comment on other outrages that could be eliminated or prevented.

    Pilots of that precision and skill are given what appears to be a turboprop aircraft from like 5 decades ago? What the heck is going on across the border? Give them a worthy tool. (I may be mistaken on the propulsion of that aircraft, I'm not at all familiar with what the RCAF flies beyond their Hornets)

      They're turbojet tutor aircraft, CT-114. They'll do about 420kn. They're a Canadian built and designed aircraft and a proud part of Snowbirds heritage.
      Our F-18s are in active service rather than being used for demonstration because we don't have that many to spare. I believe we have 75 Hornets and 18 Super Hornets, with a single airframe making the airshow circuit rather than a full team.
      Maybe if/when we finally get the F-35 the Snowbirds will upgrade to the old F-18s. Who knows.

This platform allows the pilots to demonstrate their skills performing maneuvers with 9 ships in tight formations that would not be possible with high performance aircraft. Just relax and enjoy the show and don't worry about the age aircraft, it is the jet of choice for the Snowbirds.

      The reason that they use the Canadiair CL-41 Tutor is because trainer planes are far more forgiving and don't need fo fly as fast as a fighter to avoid stalling. Another reason is that military aerobatic teams are a source of national pride for their countries and flying a foreign plane would be, well, embarrassing. The Red Arrows use Hawks, the T-Birds flew Talons (now they use Falcons which makes no sense to me for the above reasons) and the Blue Angels use Hornets. It's going to really suck for the Angels if they're forced to use the Super Hornet because they don't call it the Rhino because it's agile, that's for sure. The Tutors were actually retired from the RCAF's training program about 20 years ago but they work phenomenally well as aerobats (as you can see) so it's a good reason to keep a real Canadian plane flying.
      If they were in CF-18's, they'd need a LOT more room and many of the manoeuvres they do wouldn't be easily seen because it would be more spread out due to the higher speeds. There's also the fact that the CF-18 can't do a lot of what the Tutor can do without ripping itself to shreds.

    • @yxeaviationphotog
      @yxeaviationphotog 4 года назад +1

      Too expensive to fly, harder to maintain and you drastically shrink your available pool of pilots and techs. So no, that isn't feasible.

    • @scallywag6768
      @scallywag6768 3 года назад +1

      Naw. Its not a good idea. The Blue Angels already do a phenomenal job displaying the F18 as the Thunderbirds so with the F16. These are both high performance aircraft and cannot be used to perform the aerial ballet that the Snowbirds perform. If you put the Snowbirds in F18s then you will just have another Blue Angels team.
