People use the terms "Apartment Living". Apartment living ALSO includes having respect for neighbors. It's not hard to do. When it affects your mental and physical well-being, THAT is a problem and should be taken seriously.

I've had a--holes for neighbors. It got so bad, I had to get a hotel room several times to get a good night's sleep. I've been gaslit by people disregarding what I went through. I called the police every night. I caontacted my city councilman and the mayor to let them know how it's affecting me. I didn't give up. The police raided that drug house. I am relieved.

I did confront my neighbor, I politely asked for them to lower the noise and this man threatened to "Shoot me dead" in his words. I called the police and submitted a police report. He always comes up to my door because he is a miserable person. I am moving. I also bought a firearm. I've never had anyone say they wanted to redrum me before it was traumatic. All my neighbors are bullies.

See confronting your neighbor is a trap. It’s also a manipulation because we have been scammed to believe we live in this perfect world. We live in a shit world. And if there is a cow on the road, what do you Do???? Get out and politely ask it to move??? No, we drive around it. Take that person as a maaaaaajor human blessing because now you know what to look for and hopefully how to deal with. You chalk it as a loss and deal with it, then you move out. The beeeeest part for you is you live in an apartment. I’d say terminate lease, pay what ever fees and just get out. ALSO major props on your firearm. Don’t keep it locked up. Keep its close to you and ready to go at all times.

My upstairs neighbors are horrible. They stomp and slam and throw furniture if I dare to use my apartment for its intended uses. Same. They eavesdrop on our conversations and phone call, comment on the dishes we make, laugh when we pee cus of peeing noises, and make so much noise when they have people over, which is almost everyday, to top it off, they have a wooden weaving loom that they bang all day, it's a source of income for them (not their only one), but it's been a nightmare for me. Our homes are supposed to be peaceful, sacred places where we can relax and breathe, but for me it feels like I'm always holding my breath. I personally don't think that some people were meant to live in such close proximity to others. Some people have behaviors, lifestyles, and temperaments not conducive to living in close proximity to people outside their respective families. Even though your current situation may be better than a previous one, it does not mean that your current one is not bad or it's "all in your head". You deserve a peaceful living environment and the f****** that are so noisy should be banished from living so close to others. I will never, ever live under someone again. You never know when a good neighbor will move out and an atrocious tenant will move in.

Who is defending blasting music in an apartment? There are different rules and noise laws when it comes to apartments and nobody should have to be bothered by someone else's music and noise. That's such a selfish outlook to think that you're special enough that your enjoyment trumps other people's peace and quiet. You can easily listen to music at a reasonable volume that doesn't disturb your direct neighbors and mainly it just requires turning the bass level down bc that's what travels through the floors and walls the easiest. I feel like apartments should come equipped with decibel meters that act like lunk alarms at gyms, but instead of an alarm, it just instantly shuts the power off to the offender's apartment. 😂

There’s nothing worse for me than poor sleep This is unfortunate I’ve experienced a few issues like this over the years but nothing major, I’ve learnt that talking usually does absolutely nothing, so I take the approach of what can I do to control the situation. I’ve learnt a few creative white noise ways, fans etc! And having back up plans sleeping in my car etc, also scoping out the apartment before moving in, in regards to the building structure, thin floors , common walls and where is the lift/ elevator etc,
There’s a guy on RUclips who experienced your exact same issue and he set up microphones recording and audio system to play the noise back to them 10 seconds delayed after every noise they made😂 apparently it drove them crazy hearing their own noise played back!
Trust me I’ve thought of some things but never done it.

But it did wake me up and as someone who also values and needs their sleep, honestly it did kind of piss me off. Now it’s when I’ve looked at legal action and what not.. I’ll be calling the leasing office to file a complaint before speaking with my neighbor again just as a back up. I hear your pain. I was so effected by being woken up that I am high anxiety now before I even go to sleep. You’re making the right choice. Don’t say nothing to them. Play stupid and just figure a way to move out. Be suuuuuuper happy this isn’t happening at a house you poured your whole savings into and have a family in it. These people have saved your life because now you know what to look for when you move. If anything be happy they kill the music at 12 cold turkey and give you that time of peace. If I were you id double job it. Try to work as much hour in the day you can so you can save as much money as you can and maybe you can put a down payment at a spot that has no neighbors. Remember when you buy a house, people could have dogs that bark all day so try your best to find a spot That’s pretty close to neighborless so you never have an issue again.

Sending love and strength back to you!!! 🍰🍨❤️
Short story time if anyone wants to read what happens when you confront neighbors 🍿🍿🍿:
I have a neighbor who constantly shifts his furniture around and I finally went upstairs after a friend told me I have to do something about it. She also heard it when she was here and I had never told her about it and she was shocked how often and loud that shifting happens...
So I went up equipped with some furniture gliders right after they did a 5+ seconds shifting of something like a large table (?). Spoiler : it didn't change anything....
A friendly looking person opened the door and told me that they did not shift furniture but they can also hear hammering all time and are "suffering" from that and he asked me if I would hammer a lot. - No I don't -_-
Then another roomate showed up at the door joining in the conversation that we had and asked if I would never ever shift furniture around. I thought it's a random question back then but looking back at that question I find it strange that he asked ...Then he asked for my name and told me his name: Malik. I know it's just a coincidence that his name is the name of an angel guarding hell but I normally do not believe in coincidences...sleep deprivation and a vivid phantasy do the rest here..I was shivering all over after the conversation and probably have been lied to.
Basically they are blaming it on others now but the flat right next to them is empty and the other flat is too far off...They said thanks to me for complaining in person.
This was about two weeks ago now.
There is daily furniture shifting ever since and I'm talking about shifting for minutes to hours just few seconds every here and then all day long. Last night at 2am I was woken up and then kept awake by his really inhumane loud footsteps and shifting smaller things around (it's hard to describe and I have no clue why he does that all time). The house might not be the best in terms of sound insulation but there were no issues with the neighbors that lived there before. I also walk even softer at night and just normal at day time, got a broom instead of a vacuum cleaner and just move my chairs a little careful at the table instead of moving the table to the chairs ...so I become more and more silent while my neighbors literally walking in my flat...
I hope there's a solution soon because the constant sound is nothing less than torture at this point..

Hi Lily, My heart goes out to you! Watching you describe your experience of inconsiderate Neighbours, and lack of due diligence from the relevant authorities, makes my blood boil. I have my own experience of such matters here in Australia, and what really gets me is this: There are many laws, and legislations, which clearly state, that noise should not injure, nor diminish or interfere with ones right to enjoy and thrive in their home, however, when people rightfully expect the relevant authorities to end the antisocial behaviors, etc., they fail miserably. Why?? You requested posts suggesting content. Im interested in how you managed to live through this, what interventions have you employed, etc.
I have a medical background, and Id be very interested to know how you managed to navigate this nightmare.

I truly believe these problems are swept under the rug because it’s easy for management to ignore since they’re not the ones enduring it. I was truly at the end of my rope and felt I had nothing to lose so I constantly complained to management. I called corporate and left bad reviews online. I spent a lot of time at local cafés doing schoolwork because I could actually focus there. Posting these videos have helped me so much because I learned that I’m not alone or crazy. My mental health was not good nor my physical health but knowing that people empathized with my situation helped greatly. I am much better now that I am away from the chaos. My mental and physical health have improved so much. I wish some studies could be done on how these situations can be so harmful. I hope that answered your question? There's no encouragement. Move where there's no neighbors above or below. If you can't, sleep in your car, in park. If you don't have car, that's where society fails people. I had an upstairs move in after me...put his tv to station same as mine, but he blasted it like he was trying to make building think that was me...When I turned off my tv sound,, he turned off his, even though his was way louder...I affably confronted him, asked if my tv bothered him. He said no, was very nice but his explanation was forgettable, made no sense and I soon moved. Rest of neighbors were odd too.

I dealt with this for about 1.5 years. I went the petty route and fought fire with fire, the neighbor moved. Some worse leased the apartment, a older man with hearing issues who would exercise in the apartment above me and play nature sounds at max.
The only way the situation will improve, is to move. There are somethings i did to mitigate the issue such as wearing Mack's Slim Fit Earplugs. Those plugs were comfortable and silenced everything but my issue was, i needed to listen to my training audio at times. My noise canceling headphones actually amplified the stomping.
You could also try doubling up in the ear plugs with noise canceling headphones, it did muffle out the sound alot but eventually my other issue was I could feel the stomps of my neighbor. My apartment was less than 300 sq ft.

Thanks for the videos. I've been through my own fair share, once which I had to endure similar things as you did, but for years, and naturally my mental health totally collapsed. It was awful and I developed PTSD because I tried everything and couldn't move out, so my only option was practically murder or suicide it felt like, neither of which were ideal.
Eventually it did stop because they moved out, though. Maybe other neigbors complained about them as well, idk..
Though my new upstairs neighbor also makes so much noise at times during the night, which prompted me to find your videos, as a comfort of sorts.
Wish people had more respect. I don't mind music and extremely loud banging and such at times, but non-stop or during the night, especially on week days it's just so disrespectful.
I once had people do literal drilling at 2 AM. It's madness.

updated 2024. so march 2024. landlord said there not renewing the lease. that is up in may 2024. i check hud/section 8 and ohio revised code laws. and it states that they have to have a good cause. i talk to a self help lawyer who suppose to give me a legal aid lawyer. and they said and rules say tenants must not disturb tenants rights to a peaceful quiet enjoyment of the premises and must not play musical instruments and sound and radio that would disturb its neighbors.
    3. complaining about your neighbors and going to there boss. HUD,ohio civil rihts commision because they did not do nothing is landlord relaititon.
    4. even tho i throw a glass cup and paint on neighbors yard at 3am in the morning. because neighbors blast loud music.
    5. and will not stand in court for a valid reason for a eviction. because landlord can be held lieable for tenant on tenant harassment. or not handling tenant complains.

Not so much the idiot neighbour's fault. There is no cure of idiocy. It is more of a design and construction and leasing issue. Everyone is out to make a quick buck. Went through the same shit but you have to gather proof which is difficult to do over time because by that time you just want to get out.

it's both. you can live close to people and be quiet. it's the people who stomp around and blast music as if they're in a house with no one aruond that are the problem.

Totally agree… still traumatized by an upstairs neighbour who blasted music with bass every night for about 2 months. I literally didn’t mind if she played music on a Friday or Saturday night. But Monday night at 2am? And I tried to ask her nicely about 3 or 4 times, my last resort was threatening to file a noise complaint with the police. Most municipalities have noise by laws, I think my city has an 11pm limit if it’s a weekday and not in the entertainment district ( like a residential area)

i feel you. i am in your position right now. scared about getting evicted. 2. why didn't you go to court and fight it.
    3. i am willing ot risk a 3 year eviction record. for this. because fair housing laws, ohio revised code lwas and disablity rights nad hud handbook states that landlord trying to evict or not renew the lease based on complaining about loud music and noise is illegally and they can be sue, held lieable and force to pay tenants for stuff.

The only way to make your neighbor being nice is equality. Leave a note, ring their bell and talk to them, call the management, make them busy in general. They will eventually stop and care about you more, nobody want to get complain everyday or week. This only work for normal neighbor btw

I also go walking to avoid the noise. Landlord said its life sounds and normal in appartment If she likes to walk so much why inside?

that is my next option legal rounte. i am mentally ill so i could not take it after a year. i put glass shars in neighbors front door. and almost was going to beat them up. i try writing a letter. and recorded there apartment number and door and went into my apartment to record the loud music for court.
so the lies the landlord nad ghetto neighbor is accused me of harassment. i already got enough video edvince of the neighbors blasting loud music form 10pm to 4am in the morning. and recording from her apartment number and going into mines where the walls are connected. so if got me on camera. i got her on it at the same time. to expose that she is harassing me.

me pounding on the ceiling and blasting music with a speaker against the ceiling made my previous neighbors move out. oh i tried calling the office initially and they said they would "find out" what's going on up there. they never called to confirm that they even said anything and that office woman has been useless even through the move in process, giving me wrong information... so i just took it into my own hands. give em the gift of the same thing they're giving you and see how fast they flip.
