Lyrics:
Beidh aonach amárach i gContae an Chláir.
Beidh aonach amárach i gContae an Chláir.
Beidh aonach amárach i gContae an Chláir.
Cé mhaith dom é, ní bheidh mé ann.
A mháithrín, an ligfidh tú chun aonaigh mé?
A mháithrín, an ligfidh tú chun aonaigh mé?
A mháithrín, an ligfidh tú chun aonaigh mé?
A mhuirnín ó ná héiligh é.
Níl tú a deich nó a haon déag fós.
Níl tú a deich nó a haon déag fós.
Níl tú a deich nó a haon déag fós.
Nuair a bheidh tú trí déag beidh tú mór.
Táim-se i ngrá le gréasaí bróg.
Táim-se i ngrá le gréasaí bróg.
Táim-se i ngrá le gréasaí bróg.
Mur' bhfaigh mé é ní bheidh mé beo.
There's a fair tomorrow in the County Clare.
There's a fair tomorrow in the County Clare.
There's a fair tomorrow in the County Clare.
But what's the use I won't be there.
Oh mother, won't you let me go to the fair?
Oh mother, won't you let me go to the fair?
Oh mother, won't you let me go to the fair?
My fondest child, Oh please don't ask.
You're not even ten or eleven years old.
You're not even ten or eleven years old.
You're not even ten or eleven years old.
When you're thirteen I'll let you go.
I'm in love with the cobbler man.
I'm in love with the cobbler man.
I'm in love with the cobbler man.
If I don't get him, I can't live on.
I was born in Cork City in 1938. When I went to Saint Mary of the Isles School which was between the three spires of Saint Finbarr's Cathedral and the Beamish and Crawford's Brewery just across the River Lee from Barrack Street this was one of the first songs in either Irish or English that Sister Aloysius Flanagan taught us. The magic was then and still is unique!
joe duggan that's because it's not and never has been called Gaelic that's like calling English Germanic it's Called Gaeilge or Irish is acceptable
They do match to perfection. This is probably the best recording of this song I've ever heard. Comhgháirdeacheas libh go léir / Congratulations to you all!
This song is just so sweet, it makes me smile while I do my animation homework.
I'm so proud of my Celtic heritage, it has such a fascinating history and lore, especially the faery beliefs and the Sidhe. I grew up listening to my grandparent's collection of Irish music and it left a mark on me, seeing all the photos of Ireland thwy had and it really made me understand how I am a link in a great chain of a particular culture. It's a comfort to know this and makes me appreciate the land and how tied in we are to it.
It's wonderful to discover more thanks to Arany Zoltan. Keep it up!
Can you, by any chance, recommend any good books about celts, if I may ask? I have been searching for good stories, mainly mythology, but reading on a computer is not as good as a normal book.
An excellent book is "Fairy and Folk Tales of Ireland" compiled by WIlliam Butler Yeats. It deals mostly with the fairies like the leprechaun, far darrig, pooka, banshee, et al.
For a book about the folk heroes of Ireland I can't recommend Jeremiah Curtin's "Myths and Folk Tales of Ireland". Mr. Curtin traveled around Ireland compiling stories from the traditional storytellers known as "seanchai."
Curtin's book has many stories about heroes such as Finn MacCool etc. Excellent book. Heck, both of them are classics.
Enjoy!
Don’t let your nation die!
At 1:15 that's Dunluce castle I live round the corner :)
You just don't know for how long I've been looking for the right version of this lullaby. It's impossible not to love it!
One of the photos is so near where I live just round the corner it's weird. Lovely by the way :)
WOW beautiful Erie!! and marvelous music Salutes from India!
all of your music is perfect to listen to while studying!!
I soooo miss Ireland!!!! I hope to return there in the future♥
Have you ever came back?
How I love my beloved Ireland
To Imhornydadcomeinside: There are some regions of America that are more Celtic than others...such as Appalachia which has people who are English speaking but are descended from mostly Scotland and Ireland.
I really appreciate you and this song and the video are amazing:-) .Greetings from Romania
I have just discovered how Ireland has a beautiful culture. Thank you.
Marta J. v. Bartsch how the fuck did it take so long?
Because I have never been to Ireland and did not know anyone from there who would send me such videos and talk about a country. Irish music and traditions are like a hidden gem.
Marta J. v. Bartsch OK. keep looking and learning. Plenty good stuff to discover.
Mash Plus Enjoy, we love visitors. You are welcome to Eire anytime.
I know this song under the name Gréasaí Bróg, but either way, this is fantastic.
If you think Irish is bad with pronunciation, just remember English's atrocious ways of forming questions, negating verbs, and the vowels. The vowels have shifted and we don't have enough letters in the alphabet to represent all the sounds we make. "Women" is pronounced "Wimen". The vowels lie. And then pAt, rAnger, and America. Three different sounds. One letter.
so beautiful!
I love this song...
love this song
Nice music, and good videos. I wish I had one of those houses in such a wonderful Place
Beautiful. It would put you in good form.

I just got back from Isle of Man. Love the pictures with the music. Thank you!!
Are there lyrics for this version available? It sounds slightly different to the other versions online. Thank you to anyone! I'm trying to study Irish on my own from across the pond.
Gorgeous !, keep em coming mister !!
i like it very much.
Thanks much :D I have been searching for months now.
very interesting song
Kedves Zoltán!
Hihetetlen, hogy még ilyenhez is értetek! Gratulálok!
Ezt a szöveget hogyan tanultátok meg fonetikusan?:)
That's because those are celtic languages, there's also a state in France with a celtic language, which sounds like Irish/Scottish Gaelic.
Check out CODasGAEILGE, má tá suim agat. It's vidyas in Irish!
Who is actually performing this. It is by far the best version I can find. This how I learned this song in school. Who is singing it?
@@Vince1303 Me.
Nice song! I will try to play it with recorder :)
Wow , keep the art coming mister :)
I miss a trip to Ireland
You have many friends in Brittany..
I use to sing this song in school it is a hard language to sing it in I find it a good practical song because it is more of a school subject
It is the first time to listen irish gaelic. I think that it's no synchronised which written text and its voices. How to read gaelic text?
That was exactly my question! So now, the question is less odd :)
It was meant to be that way, to confuse the English.
I once came across a dwarf singing this. he took my wallet...
moral of this story is don't trust little people posing as mythic folk
+119matburn Hahaha! Cute! XD
Haha, in Galway?
Ye, i don't trust midgets, they can steal your wallet cuz they're small and like they can easily take ur things cuz u can't see them
That's how they keep the pot of gold filled
Is amhrán iontach .... Éistim leis ó lá go lá!
Má tá suim agat inár dteanga dúchais ar youtube tabhair súil ar mo chainéal atá mar gheall ar chluichí ríomhaireachta agus tá sé as Gaeilge Amháin!
Odd question, but the text before the song begins...is there a proper name for that font?
No lassan, de biztosan életöm végére fogok tudni írül :o).
Előre is köszi!
U.I. Különösen az utolsó versszakra vonatkozóan - a többit még tudom követni..
enjoy
❤️👍
can anyone recommend a good old Irish bar song or like an epic sounding one preferably sung by a guy I'm no sexist as a male singer I just like the guy sound
blunk778 Jar Of Porter by The Dubliners
Like English, Gaelic, when spoken, omits to pronounce certain letters or letter groups.
Unlike English, Gaelic likes to leave out entire words and parts of words, making it so that only about half of the text you see written is actually pronounced.
It's certainly not a language one can pick up easily.
Are you serious? Gaelic languages began to develop long before anglo-saxon invasions in Britain.
Máith thú! Foghlaimím anois. Táim Ungárach.
So the word you dont speak are to indicate how to pronounce the ones you read?
[points at video] *that*'s where I live w00t!
Playing this for my cat who wants out of the house.
I'm live on the Aran islands and speak fluent Gaelic ;)
Cén fáth a ndeir tú é sin? Is fearr Gaeilge ná béarla.
lucky birds
Wait, what
Thats because the Vikings invaded the celtic lands... the culture of the vikings diffused to Scotland and ireland. But before the Vikings invaded, the Celtic culture was much different than the germanic nations. Celtic languages like Gaelic are in a different linguistic group than Germanic languages!
Não entendo bulhufas...
The language is called irish, not gaelic
Gaelic is the language family mo chara, not a single language, Irish is the single language
Kieron Fitz gaelige is we really are going to teach them
Pleas for the love of god TEACH ME!! T_T)
lol
Apparently, jokes are of foreign concept to you. lol
You should probably do some work on the English.
viva éire,viva hungría e viva ghalissia,beannacht,iiiiiighaghaahaahahha
Haha, gaelic is the only language you can't pronounce perfectly ;)
That's only because for every 100 speakers there are 101 correct ways to pronounce a word.
Children whose mother tongue is gaelic must be speaking perfectly otherwise how would you define and test perfection pronouciation. Irish is far easier to learn to speak than English which has no rules to pronounce that hasnt got an exception. My Chinese friends go nuts speaking English
irish uncial script
Gaelic. Because unnecesary vowels and and not pronouncing half of the words is the proper way to make a language. Lol, I love gaelic but maan, it's not exactly easy tp pronounce
H
Sheamus anyone?
No. Just no.
I soooo miss Ireland!!!! I hope to return there in the future♥
