  • The notion of objectivity in journalism has been hotly debated in recent years. Is it possible to be objective? Is it even desirable anymore?
In this video, Professor Ari L. Goldman, who teaches the Covering Religion seminar at Columbia Journalism School, offers a new strategy for journalists called Empathetic Objectivity. He shows how a journalist, through a series of guided steps, can enter into the world of the other while still maintaining the necessary professional distance. It is a strategy particularly suited for religion writers but can also be used by those covering other hot button issues.
